The problem is, they don't speak any English and are refusing to go through the verification process. They won't even let anyone translate for them! What on earth am I supposed to do with that?

They really have to do the video call. Tell them to check if there's an option to handle the whole thing in German instead.

Is the video call feature exclusive to Germany, or does it apply to the Canadian N26 branch too?
I didn't have to deal with that back in Canada.

She doesn't know a single word, though I didn't personally need a video call, yet now they're insisting on one. I'll try to hop on the chat from my own device tomorrow and explain things to them.

It's likely just for people in Germany.

I'm not entirely sure if they've updated their policies recently, but when I went through the registration and ordered my card, a quick video call was mandatory. It can get a little awkward, honestly—like if you end up talking to an Indian representative, or in my colleague's case, his wife had her face covered and her English was pretty rough, though nothing is truly impossible if you try. It’s mostly just the standard stuff; they'll have you snap a photo of your ID, confirm your full name, ask for your email and phone number, and at some point, they'll check in to make sure nobody is forcing you to open the account against your will.

So, I’ve got this "American" version of N26—I actually set the account up under a Canada address just because they won't ship things directly to the US. To get everything verified, I had to do a video call, and I ended up getting a woman from Turkey on the line whom I could barely understand. We spent a solid 15 minutes just trying to hash things out so we could finally authorize everything... I'm honestly not sure if they offer support in any other languages, since there isn't an option to pick one during the process—you only get to choose your address.

So, nobody even bothered to call me back? Seriously?

Did your card actually show up yet? For me, there was absolutely nothing happening before the phone call; it’s like everything just stalled. It wasn't until the entire registration process was fully wrapped up that the option to order the card finally popped up in the app.

It hasn't arrived yet, but I made sure to place the order correctly.

Hmm... that's a bit odd, isn't it?

The card arrived. It works perfectly fine.
It's a Canadian Bank BIN.

That fast?
When did you even put the order in?

Exactly one week ago.
Just like that, both my Wise card and my Square card showed up today.

Square for business? I know you can order one, but do you actually run a company or something? Or did you just link a standard account and call it a day, or was there some actual verification process involved?

I have an LLC, but there weren't any crazy deep dives—just sent over my formation papers and ID. I did have to provide a different mobile number because the app wouldn't accept my current one.

Wise gave me a much harder time with their business verification processes.

Is this a new policy, or has Chime started offering overdraft protection to everyone regardless of their income? Last year, they bumped my limit up to $1,500 since I have regular deposits hitting that account. But a buddy of mine—who basically just uses his account as a backup for occasional card swipes and doesn't have any steady direct deposits—just saw an overdraft banner popping up. It offered him a "eligibility check" (or whatever they call it), and he was immediately cleared for a $500 limit, which he took. The interest rate is sitting at 8.9% 🤔

How long has he been with Chime?
How much cash has he actually deposited?
Which state is his account registered in?

They offered me an overdraft too, like $250 or something. I haven't even touched that account in months, and honestly, I barely used it before that, so I guess it caught me a little off guard.

@Edward Evans7 - In Germany, the account is about a year old. I honestly have no idea how much money they actually transferred...

@analogjackal11 - Oh, wow. So basically, they just let the brakes go once things started dipping into the negative? 👍

I’m still scratching my head over how you managed to get that account open. I followed every single instruction to a T and still couldn't make it happen. 😬
