Robert Sanchez6 said:No, it is not mandatory. You can still register for health insurance in person at the local offices; the deadline remains unchanged—eight days for both paper filings and digital submissions.

I actually called Medicare last week, and they informed me that just like Social Security filings, using the online portal for health insurance becomes mandatory if you have more than three employees on your payroll.🤷 🤔

Can you actually put 48 hours a week in an employment contract, or does it have to stay at 40?

Has anyone else tried using the online portal for retirement updates today? I’ve been trying to submit my paperwork for over an hour now, and the site just keeps spinning like crazy without actually processing anything. I’m guessing the servers are totally overwhelmed—kind of like how the DMV gets when everyone shows up at once—since today is the first day they’re making it mandatory for those over 65 to file through the digital system. Trying to get a hold of a real person at the Social Security Administration is practically impossible, so I was just wondering if you guys are running into these same technical glitches or if it's just me...

How long does it actually take for these e-filings to clear???

I’ve got an employee switching from full-time to part-time at his current firm, while simultaneously starting a part-time gig at a different company...

Sent over the updated paperwork and the Medicare changes about three hours ago... still nothing on my end...

The catch is I need to file his new enrollment effective today, but Medicare is blocking me—claiming he’s already covered and needs to be de-registered first...

How much longer am I going to be sitting here waiting???

Typically, Social Security updates are handled the same day or by the next business day at the latest, whereas Medicare tends to take a bit longer. The main thing is that you submitted everything on time; they’ll process it when they get to it. You can actually go ahead and register them at the second firm immediately, regardless of whether the status change has cleared yet. I once dealt with a situation where an employee was offboarded on March 31st and started at a new company on April 1st; they were able to enroll her without any hiccups even though my paperwork for her departure hadn't officially cleared the system yet—provided it had been submitted.
However, you won't be able to finalize the Medicare side until the Social Security update goes through, since you have to provide the Social Security confirmation as supporting documentation. Their turnaround window is still roughly eight days.

If Medicare keeps giving you trouble, send an email to registration@medicare.gov explaining that the employee will be working part-time at two different companies. Use that address to explain the specific circumstances if they keep insisting the person is already insured.

I finally handled my pension paperwork and updated both my Democratic Party and Republican Party affiliations for my new job application, but when I try to pull up the confirmation, it still just says "processing"...

I also went through the changes with Medicare and attached those forms showing everything is still being processed...

So, what’s the move here? Am I going to have to redo the whole update once the status actually flips to "completed," or can I just email them the extra documentation as an attachment?

BTW, this system is supposed to make life easier for small business owners handling onboarding and offboarding... but honestly, in the time it took me to scan all these contracts and wait for these status updates, I could've probably finished 50 hires and terminations in person at a local office...

Don't sweat the fact that Social Security still has your paperwork pending. What matters is that you submitted everything on time. In my experience, it usually takes them a few hours, or at most, until the next day to clear it through.
If you already sent the documents to Medicare as attachments, there isn't much else to do but wait for an email response. They'll either send back the processed form or notify you that you need to resubmit with the finalized Social Security documentation, and then you just send it again.

I completely agree that this is a massive mess. It feels like every time they try to streamline bureaucracy to save themselves work, they just dump more of that labor onto us. We end up doing their job for them, yet the red tape never actually shrinks. Scan it, print it, save it, upload it, wait for receipt, and then upload it all over again... it's endless. At this rate, I'd be better off hiring a full-time assistant just to manage these government portals—someone whose entire job is tracking what’s been processed, what hasn't, and what was successfully sent...

Does anyone here have actual experience navigating this mess? I’m looking at filing electronic applications with the FDA while simultaneously submitting paper copies to Medicare. Since Medicare hasn't mandated electronic filings for the FDA yet, I was thinking about just handing everything over at a Medicare service window. What exactly needs to be attached for the Medicare office? Should I include a printed confirmation from the pension fund proving the registration is active? Will they actually accept that, or is the staff at the Medicare counter just going to find some arbitrary reason to make my life difficult?
And one more thing: is an electronic filing with Medicare actually mandatory now, or is it still optional?

Medicare doesn't require electronic filing yet. You can just take the processed electronic filing you received from the FDA straight to their service window; it carries the exact same weight as a hand-filled form, so everything works just like it used to.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I need to find the power of attorney form to attach to the access request for the online pension portal for the companies we manage.

Has anyone dealt with registering employees through Medicare lately? What’s the actual word on their deadline—I'm getting mixed signals everywhere. Is that 8-day window still the rule? Thanks. 🙂

It’s clear that since April 1st, everything has spiraled back into chaos. For instance, the paperwork I submitted to NOAA on March 31st didn't get processed until April 4th, yet for one specific case at Medicare, I haven't seen any movement at all—and today marks the seventh day. Even the files I sent over on April 3rd haven't even been touched yet. The most frustrating part is that we are supposed to adhere to a 24-hour turnaround. How are people expected to enroll or opt out within that timeframe if we can't even provide them with the confirmed documentation they need to maintain their employment? I honestly have no idea what their logic is here...

I've been waiting for three days too. Can I just print out the confirmation I got from the Social Security office and take that to Medicare, or am I stuck waiting for them to actually process the application?

To be honest, I don't have a definitive answer for you. Just as an experiment, I sent over a cancellation notice to Medicare last Friday along with nothing but that Social Security receipt, just to see if they'd accept it since I'm stuck waiting anyway. So far, I haven't heard a peep back from them either. It's hard to say whether that approach actually works or not.

The application won't go through... they'll just notify you that there's no electronic signature from Medicare, which means it hasn't been processed. Once you finally get an electronically signed application, then you can resubmit everything to Medicare...

I’m losing my mind here. I ended up filling out forms 2 and 3 by hand, and tomorrow... I'm heading straight to the service window...

Ah... well, fair enough then. I'll just try sending it again once the Social Security Administration clears it. It's been sitting there marked as unprocessed for four days now.
