Just as the apostles have their sacred obligation to teach, soldiers have their own holy duty to defend their country and its people. It's no less significant.

gentlestag3, nearly every military unit at the brigade level has its own chaplain.
The nature of military service means most soldiers are far from home, away from their local parishes—though you could certainly debate the necessity of a dedicated military chaplaincy given how much the troop numbers have changed lately.

Where in the Gospels does it say that, and where did the son of God declare this to be a holy duty? Where specifically in the Gospels does the son of God mention the military?
It’s possible He does. It has been quite some time since I studied them, so my memory might be failing me.
Could you please refresh my memory?

I feel like you might be overthinking things a little bit. Faith can be such a great comfort for soldiers out on the battlefield, and I guess having a little spirituality and hope from God could really help a soldier who believes.

The Church has been interpreting faith in ways that go beyond just the Bible for a long time now, and since Jesus was such an idealist, I suppose you shouldn't always take everything so literally. On the other hand, sin is about doing evil, and maybe doing nothing when your country is being invaded is its own kind of evil? I guess I'd compare that to suicide, which Christianity doesn't really support.

The New Testament builds upon the Old. Nowhere is David condemned for taking down Goliath.

Now, I’m certainly in no position to lecture you.
I can only speak from my own experience as a man who faced massive injustice during wartime. I don't hold hatred toward the perpetrators, their supporters, or an entire nation.
I served from the beginning to the end of the conflict, and I feel I did what was pleasing to God.

When Roman soldiers crucified Jesus, one of the guards believed that Jesus truly was the son of God.
As far as I know, the soldiers aren't even cast as villains here—not even Pontius Pilate. Instead, the focus falls on the Jewish priests, though that is already a significant stretch.

Look, Jesus wasn't some anti-government radical or against having an army; he said to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. I guess that implies military service is a civic obligation, but it's hardly a holy one. A "holy killer"? That just doesn't sit right with me.

And we’re still footing the bill for it... 🙄

The saddest part is, nobody even bothers to ask if I actually want to pay for his bullshit.

I’ll be the first to admit it: I messed up. I’m guilty as charged. Now the big question is... can I actually make it to The Hague? Honestly, if I have a choice, I’d much rather deal with the legal system here in the States before things escalate to an international level in Europe.

Paying taxes is a duty.

Military service isn't just a duty; it's a calling. Every calling should be honorable, if it can't be holy.
The problem is that in today's twisted value system, the very idea of honor feels like a relic of the past.

Nowadays, it seems some people think honor belongs to those who create scandals just to tear someone else down.
It’s no wonder people like > get rightfully angry. They don't even realize how many others are draining the federal budget, but we're all at the mercy of the media moguls.

Well, alright then, you finally caught the essence of it.
True honor has always belonged to the Church.

Actually, if memory serves, the soldiers stripped Jesus of his clothes and tore them into four pieces, then cast lots for what was left. Theft, especially from a man on his deathbed, isn't exactly honorable behavior. That is, unless you're talking about Longinus, who apparently had a change of heart after stabbing him with a spear.

Besides, crucifixion is a Roman punishment, not a Jewish one. A Jewish execution would have been stoning.

Why hasn't Bishop Jezerinac targeted those corrupt profiteers and thugs who are bleeding our tax dollars dry to line their own pockets?
How many critiques of those crooked political hacks have you actually seen coming from Bishop Jezerinac?

A gang of thieves looted the treasury for themselves and their cronies, and now they can't stand anyone brave enough to call them out on it!

Jezerinac is an idiot. I feel for his parents, really.
