I could really use some help here.
I just decided to switch over to digital tax filing this week.
I got my USB drive and encrypted PIN from FINRA, but I’m hitting a massive wall trying to get everything installed.

I downloaded the tax software directly from the FINRA site. But once I open it, the program won't recognize my certificate—it doesn't even show up as an option when I try to load it.
On top of that, when I attempt to decrypt the PIN, I keep getting an error saying "cryptographic device support is not installed."
I've been wrestling with this for two days now and I'm honestly at my wits' end.
The instructions mention that if the certificate isn't recognized, I should run an app called "ActivCard Gold Utilities." Does anyone know where I can actually download that?

Help, please.

I'm a bit pressed for time so I can't dive deep into every single detail, but this info is useful for everyone because these hurdles pop up constantly when you're starting out:
1.
If you are installing the IRS application with your token or card plugged in, and instead of seeing "Publisher: IRS" in the window, it says "Publisher: Unknown Publisher," then you have a problem with the RDC root certificate installation:

Here is what you need to do:
Go to this page:

Scroll down to the section: RDC CA root certificate | Certificate Download | Public Directory Search. Select the Verification/root (self-signed) certificate for the RDC CA.

Select Open. Then click "Install certificate" -> "Next" -> "Place All certificates in The Following Store". Click Browse. Make sure to check Show physical stores.

Choose "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" and "Local Computer"

Note: If you can't see "Local Computer," just select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities." Hit "OK," then "Next" -> "Finish"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Even after fixing the "unknown publisher" issue, if you still can't get the IRS software running and you see a pop-up like this:

"Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly Microsoft Web Services 3 version 3.0.0.0. be installed in the global assembly cache (GAC) first"

Run the installation for the Microsoft WSE 3.0 Runtime from their website.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Click DOWNLOAD and follow the setup prompts.

Once that's done, try installing the IRS software again.

I just successfully submitted my ID and VAT return for January 2013 through the IRS portal. As a service provider, I have a few clients who recently filed powers of attorney with the IRS, so I’m officially authorized now. Can someone walk me through what the first step is this time when I'm filing forms for those clients? Is it as simple as, say, opening the VAT form and just deleting my own Tax ID and Company Name in the header to type in the client's Tax ID and Name instead, followed by their specific data? Or am I supposed to perform some other action first? I'm a bit lost here... thanks in advance!

You've got the right idea. You just fill out the forms using the information for the client who authorized you. There aren't any extra hoops to jump through beforehand.

Henry Chavez5... man, thanks so much for that walkthrough! It was a lifesaver. Vitasica also deserves a huge shoutout for helping me sort out that whole IP.xml situation. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without you guys.

The IRS site probably won't be working from the 1st to the 4th—I guess it’s because of that new unified form they're rolling out.

I don't think it’s about the new form 🙂, it’s more likely that their November forms are still stuck in "processing" status. Something seems to be bottlenecking the system, so the agents can't actually see those pending forms on their dashboard.

😂 So, your non-tax stuff is a total mess—mine finally settled into place after November.

Btw, thanks Henry Edwards33, just caught your reply. I finally filed my taxes today, and honestly, my head is spinning so much I’m already dreading the next quarterly filing. 😍

The IRS website is going to be down, and before you start blaming the new tax forms, let me clear things up: it's actually because they're migrating to a whole new web application. If you want the full breakdown, here's the scoop:

That’s exactly right; you've got the logic down perfectly. Once you've entered all the details, just save the draft so you aren't stuck re-typing those massive corporate names from scratch next time—you can just pull them straight from the saved document.

Greetings... I’ve spent quite some time wading through the various threads above, though I must admit, none of the advice seems to have offered any actual relief. I am currently wrestling with an issue while attempting to digitally sign an electronic business request; everything appears to be functioning perfectly on the surface, and all my security certificates seem to be in order, yet the moment I attempt the signature, I am met with this rather blunt error message: "An error occurred while signing the form. The action was cancelled by the user." It is a bit of a mystery, really, as I certainly didn't intend to cancel anything. If anyone has encountered such a frustrating glitch before, I would be immensely grateful for your guidance... I am running Windows 7, if that helps at all. Thank you.

Keep it simple—pull the card out and reinsert it. Just make sure you close out Edge or whatever browser you're running first.
Try clearing your temporary files too.

or just call up Chase customer support... honestly, that’s always been my easiest fix

So, I’ll go first. I have installed everything and completed all the steps... But when I log into the IRS portal and try to enter my business details under the certificates section, the field is just empty. There is absolutely nothing there. 😢

Just found out yesterday we gotta switch over to filing our monthly sales tax through the new e-filing system, so we grabbed a USB from the IRS today along with some download links.
Downloaded everything, but for some reason, the gemPCtwin program just won't install on my machine.
Anyone have a clue what's going on?

I had no trouble installing ActivIdentity, but this first one is being stubborn.
Plus, I got the official IRS app installed without any issues.

Spent the whole day calling the help desk, but I can't get a single soul on the line.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I’ve been staring at my screen all day, trying to file my sales tax returns, but I keep hitting this absolute wall. Every single time I attempt to submit, the system throws this cryptic error back at me: "OBJECT REFERENCE NOT SET TO AN INSTANCE OF AN OBJECT." It is incredibly frustrating because, strangely enough, I can sign and submit every other tax form without a hitch. It seems to be localized strictly to the sales tax module.
Does anyone have any idea what on earth is going on here?

Maybe it’s because the IRS portal hasn't been working since yesterday. 🤷 I mean, some forms are still going through today, but it’s a total struggle.
Has anyone actually tried submitting paper forms? The powers of attorney should be sorted out next week, so hopefully we won't get hit with penalties right away.

I couldn't even register for the app yesterday. It hasn't let anyone sign up for a couple of days, though we could at least send forms until it completely crashed today.
The lady at the FBI office just took my paper form yesterday.
