Mijo lončar, an American who’s been dealing with a massive wave of online harassment on the ASPCA’s Facebook page after five puppies tragically suffocated while he was transporting them to a local shelter, is finally speaking out about what actually happened

The whole mess kicked off nearly a month ago when the secretary of the ASPCA posted on their Facebook page, labeling Lončar an "animal abuser" and a "killer." She went full scorched earth, posting his full name and a photo taken from behind him next to his car—with the license plate clearly visible—all while accusing him of causing the puppies' deaths.

It triggered a total feeding frenzy on Mijo's personal account, with people calling for violence and leaving comments like "hang this monster immediately" or "throw him in a bag and toss him in the ocean"...

"My two kids came home from school in tears because other students were asking if their dad abuses animals. We kept them home for a week just to spare them the embarrassment. Then, some lady actually spat in front of the shop where my wife works during the day, and some stranger even rang our doorbell just to grill the kids about the 'puppies,'" Mijo lončar told the Los Angeles Times.

They suffocated because the bag fell over

He had actually tried to drop those puppies off at the shelter over on Žarkovica twice. The first time, an activist basically told him to come back in the morning because they didn't have room. The second time, he was met with nothing but shouting and insults from the association's secretary. He explained that the carrier bag he used to drive the pups from the city to the shelter tipped over on the zipper side while they were squirming inside, cutting off their air.

"When I opened the bag in front of the secretary, I honestly thought they were just sleeping. I was absolutely devastated when she started screaming that they were dead. Instead of trying CPR or anything to help them, she supposedly rushed to grab her camera, snapped a photo of me, and dumped it all on Facebook," a shaken Lončar said, adding that the half-hour argument with the secretary—who he claims only agreed to take the dogs once he offered a donation—didn't help the situation.

Lončarev's attorney, Vlaho Mujo, confirmed that the toxic comments on the Facebook page only started getting taken down after the Dubrovnik Municipal Court issued a temporary injunction.

No apology coming

"I stand by everything I said! Even I find it hard to believe he intended to suffocate them, but it happened," the association secretary stated. When asked if she would apologize to Mijo lončar, she doubled down, saying she won't budge and sees no reason to say sorry. She also claimed she's facing daily threats from Lončarev's friends.

This is just another textbook example of how inhumane these self-proclaimed animal rights activists can be. Honestly, half of them probably haven't even walked a dog on a leash, let alone handled actual farm work or livestock. They claim they’re "protecting" animals, but they’d happily step over a human being to do it.

Unfortunately, this is just more evidence of how twisted these Western "liberal values" have become. It’s honestly shameful that our local police aren't stepping in to deal with people like this and filing formal criminal charges for their threats and harassment. At this point, we probably need the courts—and maybe a psychiatric evaluation—to get a handle on them.

We simply don't have enough hard facts to determine who the actual aggressor is here.

The article only presents one side of the story.

I am genuinely perplexed by the sheer amount of nonsense being shoved into political discourse lately. I have raised this suggestion on several occasions, yet none of the moderators seem interested in providing a straight answer. Honestly, this forum needs its own dedicated "True Crime" sub-section to handle these matters.

Are you seriously calling the accidental death of a few dogs "abuse"? You're comparing that to what those radical animal activists—who are basically just haters at this point—actually do.

Usually, these people just spout nonsense—honestly, they belong in a maximum-security prison. All they do is talk trash and waste taxpayer money, lecturing everyone else about being "progressive" and "enlightened," when in reality, they’re nothing more than fascists.

Oh, so you were actually there on the scene, witnessing it firsthand?
Or are you just basing your entire take on some newspaper headline and your own preconceived notions about animal activists?

If you ask me, this looks more like pure negligence than anything else.
I mean, who even carries animals around in a closed carrier like that?

First off, what is actually going on with those militant animal rights activists here in the States? I saw some article or something... did they actually kill someone?

So, following your logic... if I happened to hit a pregnant woman hard enough in the stomach to cause a miscarriage, you're saying that wouldn't count as assault or murder? 🤔

Signature... why even bother wearing anything live inside something closed off? 🤷

This is exactly what happens when someone fails to be responsible about spaying or neutering their pet, and just treats them like some overpriced designer toy where the premium kibble costs more than a decent steak dinner in Chicago.

After seeing this commercial, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an uptick in people tossing bags of trash off the Golden Gate Bridge.

What exactly does a psychotic eco-fascist—someone who thinks calling for a lynch mob is a legitimate way to settle scores—have to do with liberal values? There have always been various kinds of deranged extremists, and there always will be.

First off, stuffing puppies into a bag is straight-up abuse. I mean, come on, would you shove your own kids into a bag like that? Of course not, because they could SUFFOCATE. You can tell this guy didn't give a damn about those pups—he didn't even notice the bag getting tossed around during the flight, let alone ignore them whimpering for help.
But look, I’m not making excuses for the people attacking his wife and kids. That’s just as wrong. He still needs to face the music for what he did, though.

The term works fine. Animals can be abused, too.

Life is life. It's a miracle of nature or, if you prefer, a miracle from God. We should respect that. This whole human-centered worldview—where animals are seen as less valuable than us, or just tools to serve our needs—is going to ruin everything. Honestly, in our arrogance and greed, most of us don't even see it coming yet.

Look, maybe that guy was wrongly accused of something he didn't mean to do, but brushing off the death of several dogs as "no big deal" is just plain wrong.

Sorry, but your comment on Zekoslavov's post really rubbed me the wrong way. I had to say something, even though I have zero connection to any animal rights groups. And please—there's no such thing as "militant" animal lovers, with or without the quotes. You can't love animals too much! Just like you can't love anyone or anything too much. You just love them.

Animals can be abused, and whoever does that should answer for it, just like someone who scratches my car.

Every life has value. Personally, I especially value the lives of those animals that provide the best meat. And yeah, absolutely everything in this world exists for humans. Of course, exploiting everything around us needs to be done rationally, because if we don't take care of the planet, we won't have anything left to exploit.

The fact that a few dogs died is a sad little story that might make a kid cry, but it isn't something this man and his family should be subjected to, being insulted by unstable fanatics.

Oh, there are definitely militant animal defenders out there. Like all fanatics, they don't actually love animals as much as they hate people. Thank God here in the States things have stayed at this level so far, but you shouldn't be surprised if some unstable idiot eventually decides there are too many human pests and starts demanding a radical reduction in the human population.

I’d bet anything you’ve never actually owned a cow, a goat, a dog, a pig, or a chicken. Well, I have, and I can tell you I loved them a hell of a lot more than those "animal lovers" ever could. Honestly, those types don't even love animals; they just hate people. I’m seriously curious if Luke Oman has ever milked a cow, helped with a calving, or even prepared a bale of hay.

I see we aren't seeing eye to eye. Not surprising, since very few people actually hold an eco-centric view of the world...

Before I head out, I'll leave you with one question. Why do you think such an event is a heartbreaking tragedy for children, yet just a non-issue for you (and most adults)? Don't you think kids might intuitively feel that natural connection between all living things on Earth—something we adults have completely forgotten while subordinating nature to our own selfish needs?

I think you did love them. Especially when you were a kid. That kind of love is selfless. But once someone starts living off animals in a material sense, they can't really talk about "love" anymore. Sure, you can try to minimize their suffering or make things easier for them, but there’s no true love where exploitation is involved...

I’m not sure who Luka Oman is—maybe an activist for some animal rights group? It doesn't really matter if he's milked a cow or not. The bigger question is how someone can feed an animal every day, take its milk, help it give birth to calves, and then, once it stops producing milk, send it straight to a slaughterhouse...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not judging a farmer who's just doing his job because that's all he knows or how he survives. I get it. I just don't want to hear you call that kind of relationship "love"...

By the way, I have a cat, so I know a thing or two. Though I guess to you, a cat isn't a "real" animal, so I’m probably totally uncultured compared to someone who grew up with cows...

Best, let's just agree to disagree before I lose my cool! 🙂

Look, honey, I've had cats, I've had cows, I've even had goats, and I still remember them all vividly today. If you've got this preconceived notion that us pragmatic folks are just heartless, that's on you, not me.

It's because kids cry easily; to them, a broken toy is basically the end of the world. This whole thing is a sad little story, sure, but ultimately irrelevant. Personally, I don't even see why I should care about it, other than the fallout that happened after that guy showed up with dead puppies.

Like I said before, if it were ever proven that he killed those puppies on purpose, then yeah, he deserves a massive punishment. But based on everything here, this looks like a straight-up accident. He obviously messed up by carrying those pups in a closed bag, but staging some kind of public witch hunt against him is just insane—and it's all because of dead dogs. Then someone has the nerve to try and draw comparisons, asking if he’d carry his own kids in a closed bag. Give me a break. Things happen. When idiots leave their kids in a hot car in the middle of a Texas summer and face the consequences (hopefully), I don't recall people starting a mob over it. Look, if it were a dead child, I'd understand the outrage and the lynching mentality. But not this.

To be honest, the kind of people who put a dog and a child on the same level when talking about the value of life actually scare me. And I'm not just talking about kids—I mean people in general.

You really shouldn't be hauling puppies around in a closed bag. Tredbati suggests using a basket instead. Plus, if they were still tiny little things—say, under five months old—you definitely wouldn't want to separate them from their mother too soon.

I wasn't the one who started this...

And honestly, what you call "prejudices" might actually be true. Just take a second and think about it. There’s a really great, well-known book on this exact topic: food for peace by W. Tuttle. If you want to get to know the "enemy" better and move past those biases (like mine!), I highly recommend it!

Best,
