If not, I’d suggest sending a formal written request to the IRS via certified mail with a return receipt requested. Give it some time; even they have certain regulatory windows they're required to operate within...
Of course I do... but honestly, with the way they're squeezing people right now, you might as well just give them everything you own. It feels like you're guilty just for being productive. Or for breathing, really.
Thanks for the heads-up, but I already paid the sales tax. Honestly, I’m not even going to mess with it—if they decide to hit me with interest because I was a day late or something, then I guess I'll just deal with the headache later...
I can't remember seeing this kind of overreach before—at least not in the twenty years since I made the mistake of leaving government work for the private sector. And man, life was easy back when I was on a federal job; the pay was solid and reliable... No dealing with tax auditors or those little pests looking for trouble. You didn't have to worry about whether there was $2.25 extra change (like pennies or nickels!!) or if you were short by ten cents. It always comes back to this: if you're actually working, you're bound to make a mistake eventually!
