It’s not just "some" cities, it’s like 70% of them. Same goes for the smaller municipalities, but let's be real: that's never happening because the first administration brave enough to try it would get absolutely crushed in the next election. They might even vanish from politics entirely. 😁

Treating California as a single cohesive region or county is an impossibility, both from a geographic standpoint and because of the sheer difference in how people actually function.

The folks in Charleston still act like they're the center of the universe and somehow superior to everyone else; there is absolutely no way they would ever let someone from San Francisco tell them what to do.

Let’s be real and not get too heated about national identity: Charleston isn't even part of California. The California region pretty much ends once you hit Memphis.

Charleston can just stick to its own little county stretching down toward Key West.

I actually got jumped online last year because of this, with people digging up old maps trying to prove Charleston is part of California.

Exactly twice the size in population, and probably even in land area since Texas is more densely packed...

But there's no point giving us Midwesterners local government. We're too passive for anything, plus in our counties, it's always just the big shots and local sheriffs calling all the shots...

You hit the nail on the head. Personally, for me, California is just that narrow coastal stretch—you know, the real Mediterranean part. Everything "inland" past the main highway doesn't count as California to me, and I don't consider them true Californians either. They're just mountain folk who moved into our old royal cities and took over with that hillbilly mindset.😁😁😁

To be honest, life isn't exactly glamorous anywhere in America, and that includes the capital. To me, Indianapolis feels like this cool little urban spot that totally has the potential to be the capital of a powerhouse Midwest region.

That’s exactly why the idea of California as one big region falls apart.

It's like how up on the North Coast, you've got the beach crowd and then the folks from the Appalachians. Sure, that "mountainer" vibe might be missing, but you still get that classic attitude where the coastal types look down their noses at anyone living in the Appalachians.
