Honestly, being happy seems way too easy and kind of boring!

If there’s an 80% chance things are awesome and only a 20% chance they suck, everyone still finds a way to spiral and act like it's the end of the world!
It’s like that classic move: "I GOT AN A!!!!!!!!!!!!!" even though you actually scored an 87% on the test.

Like when some girl starts a thread panicking that she might be pregnant, driving herself crazy, even though the odds are basically 0.00000046 %.
She could have just grabbed a Starbucks and worked on a crossword, or even just sat out in the sun for a bit!

Then you see another thread where a ton of people say they wouldn't have even been born if they had the choice!

If there isn't a problem, we can always just invent one!
When everything is going great, we start worrying about a black hole swallowing the country, or a meteor hitting YOUR specific car, or a volcano erupting in your backyard. And if nothing else works, there's always: "Ugh, I can never be 100% sure my partner isn't cheating on me!"

Just look at the whole swine flu scare. Even if you're perfectly healthy and it would just be a couple of days of fever, we turned it into a massive panic. It was all over the news and every newspaper, everywhere you looked!

To wrap it up, it feels like people would rather choose suffering over an easy life. They just ignore everything that gives them a reason to smile and focus entirely on why things suck!

By the way, what’s the big symbol of faith in our society? THE CROSS!!!!!
The Cross, folks! It's a symbol used to glorify Jesus' SUFFERING! We celebrate it in church constantly. You hear it during Mass—stuff like "blessed are the poor," "blessed are the hungry," "blessed are the oppressed." The church glorifies suffering! It teaches that you need to suffer here on Earth to make it into heaven later. Like, Jesus was on the cross for a few hours after living 33 years, so that's all we focus on!

And if your life is actually perfect, you can always just reminisce about some drama you had ten years ago!
Or look at those old ladies on the bus who look like they want to bite your head off, wearing enough makeup to barely hold their faces up, lecturing everyone about kids, politics, or quoting Latin to complain about how teenagers play violent video games (when they probably don't even know what a computer is). Basically, if nothing is bothering you, you can always stress out over someone else's lack of morals! Then you become a victim again because: "I live in such a wicked and cruel world, I just can't stand the suffering and evil people inflict on each other."

We can even stress about how millions of chickens are slaughtered every single day just to feed people! Gross.😢

Mostly, this whole pile of mental issues and nonsense... come on people, snap out of it! You're healthy, you have food, you can grab a drink, you can afford your coffee, the sun is still yellow, the air is fresh, you've got friends, maybe a dog, a TV, and if you've got a partner, hey, that's great too. Life is beautiful if you actually choose to see it that way!

Cheers! 🙂

Are they just looking for attention? Pity?
I don't know... 😁

You make a good point,
but most of them are actually quite sick,
they didn't choose this state of mind and they're trying their best to get out of it,
though you do get those people who just want to stay miserable because they're bored
since they don't have any real problems to deal with...

🤷

In my estimation, it’s nothing more than a desperate bid for attention coupled with a paralyzing fear of failure.
God forbid he maintains even a shred of optimism, lest the whole town starts whispering about how everything went sour for him...

Ugh...

Or honestly, when you're already having a terrible run, bad news doesn't even hit as hard because you're already at rock bottom.
It's hard to feel shocked when everything is already going south.

Of course, I'm not talking about the people dealing with actual, heavy-duty struggles—this doesn't apply to them at all.

But hey, everyone thinks their own little issue is the biggest deal in the world... 🤷

Oh, I know exactly the type. Everything revolves around them, and only their struggles actually count.
They are just desperate for attention. To me, people like that seem quite insecure, almost as if they're trying to force themselves into the spotlight to get noticed.
I don't know, they clearly just have too much time on their hands.

Or perhaps they think that's the only way to truly connect with someone.😕

And honestly, they're right.

If someone doesn't have a problem,
they'll just go out and invent one. It doesn't feel right to them if everything is actually going okay.
There's always got to be a catch.

Man, I feel like you'd have to repeat that to most people at least a hundred times a day... but who has the patience for that? Personally, I don't. I really hate repeating myself. If there’s some kind of Patch Adams out there willing to use laughter and pure goodwill to soften up all those grumpy Americans, then more power to them—but honestly, it's a thankless business. 😁

I find myself agreeing with most of what’s been said here. It’s exhausting watching crowds of people obsess over whether their lives have any purpose at all, or complaining about how much they hate studying, or claiming they're miserable—all without having the slightest clue why... It’s almost as if people sit around actively searching for reasons to feel depressed and unhappy 🙂
If you really asked me, I wouldn’t choose to be born again, though I won't pretend I haven't spent my life whining about it from day one.
Fine, I’ve vented on other threads too, but this particular phobia makes everything feel so much more bitter than it needs to be 🤣

It might look like attention-seeking, but honestly, it feels more like facing actual problems head-on. I just don't have the energy to deal with life right now, so I'm venting here for no reason... 🙂

So what's your actual problem?

I’ve been skimming through your thread. If I'm not mistaken, you're dealing with depression? That's a completely different issue altogether..

My depression isn't just coming out of nowhere.
Right now, I'm dealing with these irrational fears,
but my real struggle—back about two months ago
when I was still feeling "normal"—was that I'm
27 years old and I've never even had a boyfriend,
never even been with anyone,
and being stuck in this tiny rural town makes it feel impossible.
Plus, I've been "working on" my senior thesis for two years without
actually graduating, and I’m terrified of growing up and leaving my parents...
yeah, all that stuff.
But then, about two months back, I had a massive panic attack,
and I haven't been the same since.
To be honest, I was already unhappy with myself and
my life before that, I just didn't have these crazy, irrational fears
like I do now.

Look, you aren't to blame for what happened. Don't tell me you think things will stay this way forever. If there isn't an easy fix, you find the hard one. There is always a way out.🙂

Life is so beautifuuuuul😉absolutely stunning, just wonderful😉We can always find a thousand and one reasons to dwell on misery, but just as easily, we can find that single, solitary reason to be happy. We are constantly presented with a choice; we are the architects of our own reality. We have the option to truly savor this life, or we can simply choose to be miserable. It’s funny how everyone tends to view their own struggles as if they were the largest hurdles in existence...🤷
Whenever I face a setback, I make it a point to analyze it briefly and then immediately pivot my focus toward the solution—never the problem itself—always and exclusively focusing on how to fix it. Not everyone operates that way, though. My coworker, for instance, constantly drones on about some ailment she has, and even when I suggest endless ways to manage it or live better because of it—well, NO, apparently there is no help for her. If I ask, "Have you tried this?" the answer is always, "No, I haven't, and I won't," because supposedly it doesn't work. Or if I say, "Well, try that instead," it's just, "No, neither of those will help." Honestly, it seems like what she actually wants is to wallow in her illness in some twisted sort of way. So fine, go ahead and enjoy it, I suppose... what am I going to do about it? 🤷
Most of us don't realize soon enough just how beautiful life really is, or that the absolute chaos and nonsense we deal with actually exists to shape us as individuals—to serve as the challenges we are meant to overcome.
Personally, I didn't truly grasp that until I was quite literally staring death in the face; an ambulance was racing through the streets at ninety miles per hour, and every second felt critical, while my father held my hand tightly, whispering, "Please, just hang on..." Outside, it was such a gorgeous November day, so warm and bright, and I remember thinking at one point as my vision blurred, "You know, you can die any other day, you don't necessarily have to do it today." 😁That was the moment everything shifted for me; it was my wake-up call. And I am so profoundly grateful to God, the universe, fate, or whoever it was that granted me the chance to experience that and continue living. To live happily and feel fulfilled.
Life happens only once, and we ought to live it exactly how we want, doing whatever makes us happy, even if someone else thinks it's silly. Life is a gift—a precious gift that we should truly embrace. 😉
