Sandra King5 said:Thanks, but I'm being serious here—that stuff actually worked for me and a few others back when we were kids. Only difference was, we were trying to get girls to touch us, not trying to slice them up with knives 🙂. We were young, hormones were all over the place... I once took a knee to the groin from one girl, and another gave me a slap so hard my face still burns thinking about it 👍... but hey, we're on good terms now whenever we run into each other 🙂.

Basically, you just have to show some teeth and the little idiots will back off...

👍 😂😂😂

First, let me establish that I know you, just so we are clear. It would be dishonest to claim I don't care about you, but I must be frank: your sudden depressive episodes and your relentlessly pessimistic outlook are exhausting. You cannot view everything through such a dark lens and expect to drag everyone else down with you. That is precisely why people tend to distance themselves; most people simply lack the capacity to constantly absorb your internal struggles when they are busy navigating their own—which, in many cases, are quite significant in their own right. We all manage our burdens, striving for balance even when things are difficult, and we lean on friends for support. Believe it or not, I have been there, listening to you navigate everything, which is ultimately what led to this discussion on the forum. To be honest, I no longer have the energy to push myself; until you address these core issues personally, my interaction with you will be limited to necessary communication. Please understand, my intention isn't to insult you, but to point you toward the actual root of the problem in a way you might actually accept.
Furthermore, you really need to reconsider your habit of making jabs where they hurt most. You must realize that not everything is a joke. While I may occasionally interpret your comments as mere sarcasm, you need to exercise more discretion. Some people are easily offended, and while they try to be mindful of their words, you must do the same. To be blunt, you seem to struggle with social cues and the ability to communicate effectively in a balanced way. If you want to maintain friendships, learning this is essential. It isn't easy, but I am certain your intelligence is far greater than any measurement of shoe size, and I trust you can deduce when a comment is appropriate and when it is not.
It is true that I, along with many others, have distanced ourselves from you, but there is a reason for that. Friends are meant to provide comfort during hard times, but they are also meant to share joy. If you reflect on your recent interactions, ask yourself how much positivity you have actually contributed to your friends versus how much negativity. I still consider myself your friend, but at this moment, I have no desire to hear about your struggles with three different types of antidepressants or your refusal to eat. Good grief, you weigh less than my shoe size. You aren't overweight; quite the opposite, you look unhealthily thin. You were much more attractive when you had a bit more weight on you; now, your physical state is genuinely concerning. Please, start eating normally. Even if you gain a little weight, you will certainly look better than you do now.
I recognize that you are dealing with general issues regarding your parents, but believe me, if you were in my position, it would feel even heavier. I often remind myself that others face even harsher circumstances, and while I certainly experience bouts of depression due to my own situation, I make sure to balance those moments by sharing positive experiences with my friends. That is how I maintain my social circle. If you want to find that same connection, you must follow a similar path.
This is only a small portion of what I need to say. I sincerely hope you take the time to resolve these matters and attempt to function more healthily. Until then, I have enough of my own challenges to manage, and I cannot sit by and watch you self-destruct. It serves no constructive purpose in my life. However, if you can find some stability and return to a more balanced way of living, I would be happy to welcome you back into my life.
Best regards! 😉

Does it actually make your blood boil that you happen to have a friend? And honestly, how is it that this isn't viewed as a flaw in the world, but rather as some sort of personal failing on your part—that you’re expected to actually put in effort for a friend?
What exactly are we supposed to call it when you go looking for her help? You know as well as I do that relying on chemicals isn't some kind of silver bullet. It’s never been the answer, and it certainly isn't going to be now.

How'd you even come to that conclusion?
Honestly, I have zero clue who even penned that post, and frankly, I couldn't care less.
...because I'm just a selfish, full-of-myself, narcissistic, egocentric piece of work. 😍

The real issue is that we’re being forced into these social circles we didn't even ask to be part of.
Look, we don't even need to be friends if we aren't on the same page—period.

Who am I even supposed to be asking for help here? Like, who is this girl anyway?

Look, let’s just be real here—depression isn't some mood swing or a lack of willpower; it's a legitimate medical condition that needs actual treatment, like antidepressants, to get managed.
Honestly, you guys who have no clue what's actually coming—just start crying now. 😁

Exactly. "Friendship" is just a concept forced upon us by society, which is precisely why you're so desperate to find some...
As for her, you're likely just making assumptions, dying for a bit of validation.
You can try selling your "coolness" theories to others, but they don't work on me.
Depression is an illness that is treated with medication as a last resort, because once you pop a pill, there's no need to exert any effort anymore; you don't have to summon the courage to reach out to friends, family, or anyone else you know actually gives a damn about you.
You can deal with depression and other "issues" without relying on Zoloft; you just have to take action. But you'd rather stay stuck in your delusions—if that works for you, hey, who am I to disagree? 🤷

copperridge77, look, you can't just brush off depression if the diagnosis is F32.1 or—God forbid—something even heavier. Those meds are literally what give you the strength and the actual will to get out of bed and move again; I’m speaking from my own lived experience here. So, please, I am begging you, stop trivializing a psychiatric and scientifically proven ILLNESS. This isn't some made-up label or someone's "crazy idea"...

Let me clarify, because I realized I didn't fully explain my point. I have absolutely no intention of trivializing or downplaying depression as a legitimate illness. Since you're speaking from experience, you surely understand that there are different types of depression, and most require medication as a way out (and just so there's no confusion, I am certainly not claiming he didn't need meds to navigate his own struggle). My point wasn't malicious; based on what he wrote, it feels like he thinks the pills solved everything and that nothing else needs to be done besides staying on the prescription. In my view, there still has to be an active effort to "get moving," because without that personal initiative... nothing is truly resolved.

Medication is basically what keeps me from being happy—it stops me from spewing all this depressive crap that clearly just drives everyone away

The diagnosis is I think F32.3 (I'll double-check the exact code later, don't have my paperwork handy right now)

@vividfalcon14: I’ve been living a pretty solitary life myself for about a decade now. About four years back, things got heavy enough that I attempted to end it all with an overdose due to some unbearable mental struggles. It felt like I just drifted off into sleep, but instead of finding peace, I woke up hooked to an IV drip and spent several weeks in a psychiatric ward...

I find myself needing companionship and a true friend too, so if you ever find yourself passing through San Francisco, maybe we could grab a coffee sometime...

Take care of yourself. 👍

Weedeemer, my diagnosis is a heavy-duty F-35, so I’m talking serious levels here. And honestly? I’ve never felt better in my entire life. I’ve been on this medication for three months now, I’m seeing a therapist regularly, and I’ve completely overhauled my whole lifestyle. I didn't really expect the pills to just do all the heavy lifting for me—it was actually the exact opposite. As soon as I started feeling even a little bit more stable, I finally found the strength to get moving again, like I was being pulled straight out of the grave...

Yeah, that photo you posted of the scars on your wrist? That looks like child's play compared to what I went through. I had 17 stitches on my left forearm and 7 on my right, and yet, look at me now!

Romina, don't even worry about it, we're good. I guess I just get super defensive whenever anyone even hints at downplaying depression as a real illness, since it nearly took my life, but you're totally right—it's not just about the meds. The real healing has to come from within us! 🙂

So I just checked my records—it says F32.2 🙂 (even though the first diagnosis they gave me was actually F23.3...) so things are looking a little weird right now 😁 but whatever, it is what it is

Yeah, I totally get that you’ve probably had a much harder time when it comes to the depression side of things.

@lupus_est: It's worth it! Also—if you ever find yourself hanging out in Chicago, hit me up!

mistyseal11, look, I wasn't trying to pull that whole "my depression is deeper than yours" or "my dad is tougher than your dad" crap on you. Honestly, I was just trying to drive home the point that if you actually put in the work—like, real soul-searching stuff combined with decent therapy and sheer willpower—you can crawl your way out of even the deepest, darkest holes imaginable. You can do this too, seriously.

How likely is it that these pills are triggering panic attacks?

I’ve got finals coming up, but these meds have me feeling totally numb... I honestly feel like I won't be able to get any studying done at all.
...
I just caught myself having this sudden, massive racing heartbeat, and I'm pretty sure it was a full-on panic attack... It feels like someone is literally choking me with a Pilates ball. No matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to breathe my way out of this crisis.

How do I fix this? I'm stuck in this endless loop again.🙂

I'm feeling a little better now because I managed to chill out and actually start hitting the books... I'm getting a bit of my confidence back and the feeling is starting to lift slightly.

Please, if anyone has some advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.
