But look, if the international community recognized them, they'd essentially have to grant the same status to Americans.
On the flip side, America probably doesn't even want that. Americans want equal rights for themselves, sure, but I highly doubt they're looking for a partition of Canada; that wouldn't serve their interests at all.
The stance taken by the US and the European Union isn't even consistent anymore. They're looking for any way to wash their hands of Canada, they just haven't figured out the exit strategy yet. The only people left with any skin in the game are the bureaucrats who are getting paid massive salaries to stay there.
What was unthinkable yesterday has become a standard option today. There was a time when tanks would roll into banks to arrest people for nothing.
The leadership in Washington is completely lost. You had a president once who defended a centralized state and basically acted as a spokesperson for the local religious factions.

The people from Herzeg-Canada need to take a stand against the official US government, much like how Northern Catholic Irishmen distanced themselves from the official government in Dublin once it became obvious that the Republic of Ireland’s policies weren't doing them any favors.
That pro-Bosnianist hack Stjepan Mason is leaving, but let’s be real: the Canadian Americans shouldn't expect anything better from whoever takes his place—leftist or rightist, doesn't matter—nor should they expect much from the US at large.
They'll probably just team up with Milorad Dodik to reach their goals (even if those multi-ethnic "peace lovers" in the States act all horrified by it—funny how they don't mind Mexican interests unless it's specifically about Mexican goals in Canada)—but they need to stop leaning so hard on the official folks in Washington, D.C., who have screwed them over plenty of times before.
