I haven't even sat through 90% of the nominees, but honestly, the Oscars and the awards ceremonies in general are just getting worse. I find it hard to believe that Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians even made the list... especially considering how much Infinity War dominated the year.

With Lady Gaga nominated, I’m genuinely worried she might actually take it home. To me, it feels like an insult to all the serious actresses who have dedicated their entire lives to this craft. Her "acting" is mediocre at best.

The whole obsession with treating Lady Gaga like she’s some kind of eighth wonder of the world is just a phenomenon to me.
Look, the woman has a solid voice and she can sing, but beyond that... I don't see what makes her so incredibly special.

She basically broke through with a few catchy pop tunes and built up this massive army of gay fans who act like a literal cult—buying everything, following her every move, and worshipping the ground she walks on.

Even now, when she’s trying to pivot into "serious" musical territory—you know, like that jazz record she did with those old-school legends—or moving into acting, they’re still stuck mourning the "old" Gaga. They miss the era where she was playing the clown, walking around in outfits that looked like they came straight from a butcher shop... and yet, they follow her blindly regardless.

And wasn't there some story about people writing fake negative reviews for "Bohemian Rhapsody" or whatever other film was actually competing with her?

I honestly don't know a single singer out there with fans that unhinged.
Maybe only Beyoncé can actually compete with her when it comes to having a fanatic following.

Honestly, calling this genre "comedy" is a bit of a stretch. I think Vice is right—it’s got a lighter vibe and some decent one-liners, but labeling the whole thing a comedy feels like a reach...
If Black Panther ends up being the first superhero flick to snag a major Academy Award, then we might as well just retire the entire genre altogether; that would be a massive injustice to cinema.

Just throwing out some wild guesses for the big six categories*: A Star Is Born, Asians, Lady Gaga, Rami Malek, C. Wu, and Miranda

Honestly, calling this a comedy category feels like a stretch. I think Vice might have a slightly more laid-back vibe with a few decent punchlines here and there, but labeling the whole thing a comedy? Not really my take...
If Black Panther ends up being the first superhero flick to actually snag a major award, then we might as well just pack up the whole genre and call it a day—that would be such a massive injustice.

BlacKkKlansman and Black Panther were alright, I guess, but they felt more mediocre than great to me. Even someone as blind as a bat could see there was too much political maneuvering going on. It felt similar to Crazy Rich Asians.

Everything feels a bit lukewarm this year. I’m really only interested in Roma and Vice... though Green Book might be fun just to watch Viggo Mortensen, so I'll give that a shot. Obviously, you can't help but root for Wes.

They aren't even trying to hide the fact anymore, you know? It’s like they’re pretending this is some high-brow curation of the greatest cinematic achievements ever. Honestly, it feels like saying John Grisham and some random lifestyle blogger are equally in the running for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Actually, let me rephrase that—it’s more like they're both competing for a Nobel in Physics. 👋

That’s why the Oscars are going to kick things up an absurdly high level; they’ll probably dig up some tiny, quiet, indie darlings that nobody’s ever heard of just to prove how "serious" they are. They want everyone to see that those little gems are infinitely more important than these total joke productions we're seeing now. 🤣

I mean, it’s passed the point of being funny. It’s just depressing at this stage, but hey, what do you expect? 😢

Every single year I convince myself these awards can't possibly get any worse...

Out of all the nominees, I’ve only actually sat through Crazy Rich Asians. Honestly, I don't know how they aren't embarrassed to even put that garbage up for consideration. The rest of the lineup doesn't look much better, though I guess I still have to watch them...

Lady Gaga 🤦 I just don't get why she's being shoved down everyone's throats constantly. I prefer those singers who actually realize they're massive artists and stop trying so hard...

The only silver lining is seeing Sacha Baron Cohen on the list, but let's be real—he isn't taking home anything.

Looking at this mess of nominations, I'm betting the Oscars are going to be an absolute disaster this year.

Out of all the nominees—not counting the Best Picture category, specifically the drama and comedy slots—the only ones actually catching my eye are At Eternity's Gate and Edgerton's Boy Erased. I might even give Bohemian Rhapsody a shot.
