Hey everyone,
It’s been a minute since I’ve been active here—and now, out of nowhere, I’ve been tapped as a moderator. So, I’m asking you all to jump into this poll so I can get a decent pulse on where we actually stand right now.
I want to hear from the old guard—the "seasoned veterans" who probably use this place as their digital fountain of youth 😉—as well as the newcomers who just joined the party.
The site changes every single day, obviously, and I know "quality" is a pretty hard thing to pin down—especially on a Spirituality Forum—but I think it’s worth taking a snapshot of where we are in this little corner of the internet.

So, here are some prompts to get us started (feel free to throw in your own thoughts too):
- What do you think of the forum over the last few weeks or months?
- What are you actually enjoying?
- What’s getting on your nerves?
- How could we make this better (if it even needs it)? Basically, what’s missing?
(Just trying to make sure everyone stays happy while reading or posting. 🙂)

Look, I know everyone’s going to have subjective takes—some might even be total opposites—so please, let’s avoid any heated arguments over whose opinion is "right." A cool, civil dialogue is always welcome, though.

Since I’ve posted quite a bit myself, here’s my quick, telegraphic take on how things feel to me.

I’ve only really been active here for about two years—even though I registered ages ago for one specific post, then basically went ghost. For a while, this felt like a great spot, both for the community and the topics. But lately, it feels like things have slipped a bit. Part of that was the chaos regarding where we'd host the site, part was the struggle to find permanent moderators—even though, honestly, every mod I've worked with so far has done a killer job—and part was losing some core members who really made this place what it was. It led to this weird illusion that there's some massive drama happening in real life outside of these threads. 😁 Plus, at one point, it felt like a bunch of argumentative personalities were starting to take over.

That said, over the last week or two, it feels like the spiral is finally turning back upward—both in terms of how people talk and the actual content being shared. I’d love to do whatever I can in my capacity to keep that momentum going.

I’ll be opening a dedicated thread soon specifically for moderation and direct communication.

Hey casualtiger2,
I’m gonna pass on giving my two cents regarding the state of the PDFs—not really my business—but I will say I appreciate you stepping up to try and make this place look a little less like a mess.

Good luck moderating the Spirituality Forum... seriously, try not to lose your mind in the process. 😁

Whoa, hold up.
This isn't the "holidays and greetings" thread—though, thanks 😁, I appreciate it
. I’m looking for your honest, subjective takes here—give me the deep critiques and the creative sparks alike.
And don't be shy; I want at least half a page of actual substance.
I'm hunting for Shiva and Vishnu (Brahme is already spoken for 😬).

good luck! 😛 😁

As for my take... I spent a lot of those years active on various online boards, and honestly, the only places where the discussions actually had some substance were the niche ones. I'm talking about communities tied to specific spiritual traditions where there were enough people to keep things moving, but also enough shared ground to prevent endless bickering or outsiders trying to deconstruct everything from the outside. The broader, more general interest groups? They’re usually either too strict and end up being ghost towns, or they're just chaotic mess of low-level arguments and endless back-and-forth.

My advice is to treat these kinds of spaces as light reading. Avoid getting too carried away and don't go in expecting anything too heavy 🙂

It seems bluemason3 just voiced exactly what I’ve been thinking.

This platform has evolved into a site for the masses. As such, while it functions perfectly well as an information hub, it becomes increasingly difficult to sustain any sort of high-level, meaningful debate—even if you do stumble upon the occasional gem of wisdom.

The absolute priority here must be the regular purging of trolls, bots, and the intellectually vacant.

Could I possibly become Kali? 😍
I am merely joking, of course. I already am 🙂

Regarding this matter, I am truly delighted to see an initiative gaining momentum, specifically with the opening of a moderator topic 👍
I find moderating the Religion section to be such a rewarding experience, and it strikes me as perfectly logical that we might apply that same standard to the Spirituality Forum.
My primary grievance regarding the moderation thus far has been the tolerance shown toward trolls and those who insult other members, not to mention the excessive off-topic chatter that tends to derail meaningful discussions.
Everything else is secondary.
We really ought to pay closer attention to the quality of our discourse; it should be worthy of the depth found in a scholarly PDF and serve as a model for others, rather than something one finds distasteful.
This isn't just a suggestion for the moderators, but rather for everyone participating in our community.👍
good luck!

If you're saying this isn't for greetings, then I guess it's too early for my first day in this new role to be considered undisciplined by greeting and praising you, because

you were cool before, but now that you're a moderator, you'll probably become a total snob. 😎

Definitely a solid choice: composed, quiet yet impactful, never gets into petty arguments, a long-time meditation practitioner, an expert in spirituality, polite, respects others' views, but not a pushover—just right... 👍 just don't let the power go to your head. 😁

Spirituality Forum is alright. I haven't voted yet, but I'll pick a positive option. It feels a bit stagnant since we split from organized religion and those various New Age trends, but whatever... I drop by every day, whether it's me, one of my clones, or all of us together 😁 ....🤣

I see this as a bit of fun and a unique chance to spout some wisdom publicly. The other reason is that there are beautiful people here who possess that spiritual dimension, which isn't exactly common. People are so wrapped up in materialism; finding someone who voluntarily dives into their inner self to seek answers to life's biggest questions is a rarity, and that's why they gather in one place, which is great. That’s why I regularly peek voyeuristically into their profiles, whereas I never bother with the profiles of people outside the spiritual sphere.

The arguing used to bother me at first, but not anymore, because as one of my favorite authors, Edward Flores4, beautifully put it regarding philosophy—people mistakenly identify with their usernames and then think that persona is a real person here that they have to defend. Basically, I'll just attach his text since it covers everything, so I won't improvise.

With posts like these, you're really shoving yourself into the same category that similar people fall into, a category informally known as "virtual identity disorder." Essentially, it involves people who conflate their online handle with their actual personal identity, leading them to interpret virtual events as if they were happening to them personally, which triggers a whole chain of issues. These individuals believe their "cyber nickname" carries the reputation, credibility, dignity, and authority of a physical human being. They constantly ignore the fact that on forums, most people are chatting with others they've never met—or at least don't know they've met—with only a few exceptions. They also ignore the reality that most members, who haven't abstracted their identity into a "cyber handle," cannot even grasp the concept of "proving dominance" of one non-existent identity over another non-existent identity.

Bottom line... this Spirituality Forum isn't real life, and it never will be an adequate substitute for it. People who fail to grasp that constantly end up spinning wild conspiracy theories about "moderator plots" against their "identity"—usually claiming we're just trying to "prove dominance"—or, in even more pathetic cases—like Alim—they actually believe everyone else is just threatened by their infinite wisdom and all-encompassing knowledge.

so after realizing this, I don't let it get under my skin anymore; if I do snap or lash out at someone, it’s purely a performance—I'm just playing a part...

Besides, the actual value of a forum like this is being able to voice an opinion just to have everyone tear it apart—then, if you're being honest while defending it, you can see exactly where you messed up, or better yet, realize you were dead right all along. It forces people to sharpen their arguments.

Furthermore, interacting here helps you develop a certain speed in spotting stupidity and inconsistencies—you even build an intuition for what kind of person you're actually dealing with—so this whole writing thing serves as a sort of mental exercise...

All in all, I'm satisfied. Except for those times when I catch myself sitting at the computer for hours on end—overdosing on typing until I'm rambling nonsense, feeling totally brain-fogged, acting all "edgy," and snapping at everyone in my actual life while hunting for logical fallacies in their arguments.😍 That’s my sign that my clones and I need to just shut the damn computer down.

Mind you, there are some truly wonderful, brilliant, and witty people here—talented writers, relentless debaters, intellectuals, educated folks, and total jerks... I applaud them all and hold no grudges against anyone or anything. Not against the moderator Nikoga (especially not him, he's 🙂), but seriously, everything is fine with me.

Hey there, Amanda Roberts21,
So, in your last post, you decided to lean on one of your favorite writers—who, if I recall correctly, put it pretty bluntly over on the Philosophy sub-forum:
Edward Flores4 said:Basically... this online community isn't real life, and it’ll never be a substitute for the real deal. People who can't wrap their heads around that constantly end up spinning these wild conspiracy theories about "moderator conspiracies" or members targeting their "identity"—usually claiming people are just trying to "assert dominance." Or, in the absolute worst cases—looking at you, Alim—they actually believe everyone else is just intimidated by their infinite wisdom and all-encompassing knowledge..

As you can see, your hero, Edward Flores4, was being incredibly rude and straight-up insulting toward Alim—a guy most of us actually respect and enjoy reading because his philosophical takes are actually worth something.
Honestly? In my book, someone quoting an author who trashes a user like Alim should probably be banned. It’s not just a one-time slip-up, either; this guy does it constantly.
And honestly, since you're using his words to back yourself up, your post really shouldn't even be here.

Your favorite guy, Edward Flores4, paints Alim as some kind of fake genius—but let me tell you something: it’s definitely not Alim who feels the need to call everyone else stupid in almost every single post, nor is it him who keeps acting like he's part of some "intellectual elite"—which is a far cry from how your buddy Edward Flores4 behaves.

And unlike him—who treats people more like avatars than actual human beings because he clearly thinks he's just a username rather than a person—Alim has actually gone out of his way several times to say he tries to see the human being behind every sentence.
Look, I have a ton of respect for Alim, and I totally agree with his approach. So, I’d appreciate it if, when you’re responding to me, you remember that I’m not just the handle Kenneth Peterson5—there's a real person standing behind these words too.

Bottom line:
Relying on a post where the author is busy dragging other users through the mud is, in my opinion, a terrible way to try and improve the conversation on this forum.

Just because the mods over on the Philosophy board allow insults, belittling, and plain old rudeness whenever it suits them, doesn't mean we have to follow suit here on the Spirituality board.
Let's keep this place decent.
Let's make this place a good vibe.
Let's make this place fair.
Let's make this place everything that the Philosophy board fails to be.

At the end of the day, I don't think you fully realize what's been going down over on the Philosophy side, so I’m asking you: next time you feel the urge to quote your favorite, Edward Flores4, maybe take a second to think about whose words you're actually throwing around.

Thanks,

The Spirituality Forum PDF is actually pretty solid. Look, there’s always room for improvement, but since it’s such a struggle to find a handful of capable, willing moderators who actually want to put in the work, I’m giving it a positive rating. It’s doing a pretty great job overall. 🙂

Look, Kenneth Peterson5, please don't take the frustrations you're feeling from my posts and try to dump them onto other people. Honestly, it’s just not a very classy move.

Beyond that, your spinning techniques are becoming incredibly exhausting. It’s become a bit of a pattern—you twist my words and then accuse me of saying something I never actually said. Here is your version of events:

Kenneth Peterson5 said:Hey there, Amanda Roberts21,

Thanks,

...whereas what I actually wrote was:

certain individuals, such as Alim, believe that others find their wisdom and all-encompassing knowledge to be a nuisance.

Now, Kenneth Peterson5... there is a massive difference between "acting smart" and "believing others are bothered by your wisdom." They are two completely different concepts.

When someone "acts smart," it implies they aren't actually intelligent, which might even be an insult.

But when someone "believes others are bothered by their wisdom," it doesn't suggest they lack intelligence at all. On the contrary, it suggests the person possesses genuine insight, but feels their environment isn't receptive enough to handle it.

The way you see it, Kenneth Peterson5, these two statements are identical, which really leaves us with only two possibilities:

1) You're having a hard time grasping what you're reading, or...

2) You are intentionally spinning someone else's words just to discredit a third party who happened to reference my recent post about interpersonal dynamics on online forums in general.

Everything else in your post becomes irrelevant after this point, because your entire argument is built either on a misunderstanding or—more likely—a deliberate, calculated attempt to distort my statement through a flawed interpretation. You're essentially building a whole house of cards based on a hypothetical, totally inaccurate version of my original post.

As for the conclusion...
...I'll let everyone draw their own!

Unlike you, I don't feel the need to force my conclusions on "the audience," mostly because I truly couldn't care less what "the audience" thinks of you. My only goal here is to call out ignorance or deceptive intent, and to point out where your interpretation veers away from the actual meaning of my post.

Not only are you pushing your own agenda, Kenneth Peterson5, but you're using that exact agenda to claim that this is typical of the current state of philosophy, using it to argue against the supposed unfairness of those moderators.

Using those "proven" injustices, you're attempting a sort of "general mobilization" of the members here on the Spirituality Forum, using these almost epic words:
May this place be pleasant.
May this place be beautiful.
May this place be just.
May this place be everything the Philosophy forum is not.

I have to wonder, Kenneth Peterson5, were you somehow democratically elected to carry out this targeted propaganda and lead the "military force" you're trying to "mobilize" with these words? Is that how it works!?

But maybe, Kenneth Peterson5, someone here will hold you accountable. People generally don't appreciate being lied to, especially when those lies are used to manipulate their behavior. When you do it solely for your own benefit at the expense of others... well, very few people are willing to just look the other way.

And yet, you keep going:
Look, I honestly don't think you're fully caught up on what’s actually been going down over on the Philosophy subreddit—so, if you ever feel the urge to drop a quote from one of your favorites, specifically Edward Flores4, please just take a second to double-check which specific quote you're actually leaning on.
You used this idea of "proven injustice" as a springboard to push for "new regulations" aimed at curbing free speech within the Spirituality subreddit, and now you're insisting that your little movement—which you've dubbed "being everything the Philosophy subreddit isn't"—won't tolerate anyone referencing posts from that other community.

As you probably realize, Kenneth Peterson5, you’ve essentially just laid down the central dogma of your "movement," effectively turning a political stunt into an actual religion.

What’s truly wild is that you managed to pull this off in a single post. Even George Orwell might have looked at a campaign like this and felt a bit embarrassed. Of course, the real question is why you think using these kinds of tactics is appropriate for the Spirituality subreddit, though I won't be the one to judge that. It’s an open question, though—one that I think any future discussions should really center on.

Since this is basically the "inaugural" thread for the new Spirituality moderator, the fact that you're diving straight into politics and propaganda makes your motives even more questionable. It certainly explains why you've put so much intense effort into manufacturing "evidence" and organizing some kind of "official resistance" against the "hostile" Philosophy subreddit—a group whose arguments you're now shielding with religious-style dogma and by labeling anyone who disagrees as an outsider.

Epilogue:

I’m not sitting here expecting you to repent or suddenly see reason; I'm only responding to these posts insofar as it helps correct your spin. I have zero interest in having a real debate with you, because your entire "crusade" is built on fiction and fabricated "proof," so there isn't actually anything to discuss. If you have a response, feel free to direct it toward the "audience" this whole performance was clearly staged for in the first place. If you actually wanted to fix the supposed "injustices" over on the Philosophy side, you would have handled it there—but instead, you found it much easier to publicly stigmatize the "enemy." It makes sense, really: since lies wouldn't actually solve anything over on Philosophy, you chose to deliver this epic monologue on the "neighboring" subreddit, making sure to warn everyone how "Spirituality" is being threatened by "Philosophy."

Bravo!

Kenneth Peterson5, girl—you are seriously intense when it comes to Alvin. It’s actually becoming fascinating to watch... Or maybe you’re just

a) head over heels
b) or you ARE Alvin

Honestly, I can't wrap my head around why you've gotten so worked up defending him and fighting his battles. Even he tried to distance himself from you—he actually mentioned in one of his posts that you're basically trying to hijack the moderator seat...

Just take a breath... this is JUST AN ONLINE FORUM. It's supposed to be fun and a distraction. If you, Alvin, and everyone else here vanished tomorrow, we'd all manage just fine without your crusade to save Alvin and bring him back to "philosophy." Actually, thinking about it—you probably underestimate spirituality if you think being here is such a waste of his time...

As for who is actually behind the screen and this whole "virtual identity disorder" thing—as Samantha put it—I am 100% with her on that. Look—what do you actually know about me? For all you know, I could be paralyzed and typing this while using a straw to drink. Maybe I weigh 280 pounds and need a crane just to get out of the house. Or maybe I'm a guy finally embracing who I am and using the digital world to feel like a woman... Or maybe I'm locked in a psych ward and they gave me a laptop and Wi-Fi just to keep me from losing it. How would you ever know? You don't know the person behind the handle, you only know the ideas being typed out—and THAT IS ALL.

So, lady, please do not
get so swept up in your little
mission to protect Alvin.

Alvin is doing just fine without you...
Everyone is doing just fine without you playing cop.
The forum works perfectly well without you tilting at windmills.

First off, Kenneth Peterson5—forget about any kind of organized packaging here.
I have nothing but respect for Amanda Roberts21 in all her various roles; she’s a real asset to this community.
Her posts—at least the ones I've managed to catch up on—are honest, sharp, logical, and actually feel human. Honestly, she’d be my top pick for a moderator, but since she says that would just ruin her precious little bit of real life she has left, it's a no-go. 😍
Regarding what you quoted from Samantha, I see your point. Then again, your observation that there's a real person behind every handle is also spot on—that's how I view writing, too (which is why I stick to this one single username across every forum I join). You might be being a bit harsh on Samantha, though. From what I can tell, his posts are high quality and he genuinely tries to keep things fair. At a quick glance, he seems a bit short-fused and prone to picking fights, but that's nothing a little common sense can't fix.
I don't get why you're so hung up on Alvin and this whole situation.
Once I find a spare moment, I'll read through the entire thread to give a proper opinion. Alvin's opening posts actually caught my eye, and it feels like after a few pages, people started dogpiling him—which keeps happening periodically—but I'll have to verify that. Based on the few posts I've skimmed, I'd say Alvin and his musings bring some much-needed soul to the place (just like anyone else who chooses an artistic or philosophical way to share their thoughts, provided they stay within the rules). If people don't see the point of a thread like this, or if they hate his style—the bullet points and all that—they can say so, but they shouldn't spend their time trying to sabotage the discussion. If they don't like it, they should just stop reading. It's pretty clear we have several quality members here who are actually reading and contributing great stuff.

Everything I'm saying applies to all other threads, too (though, unfortunately, I haven't quite figured out the whole "deleting posts" mechanic yet, but I'll get there).
The person who starts a thread is responsible for sub-moderating it—basically "steering" the conversation and keeping it moving. Anyone trying to drift too far off-topic or turn it into a general chatroom—since we'll have a dedicated thread for that later—will be deleted.

Specifically, this means there's no room for you, Amanda Roberts21, or Samantha to get dragged into some pointless brawlover Alvin and Samantha. Likewise, I won't allow you to drag Alvin's stories into every single thread and jury-rig everyone else along with you—myself included. Unlike the moderators at ESPN (who are my gold standard), I don't have the desire or the patience to argue with users over decisions. I'll try to keep everything as transparent as possible, but once a call is made, it’s final—like a referee on the field. No replays, no video reviews.

Hope that makes sense.

Have a good night, everyone.

If one were to employ even a shred of logical reasoning instead of posing a question that essentially ignores the core issue—turning it into a mere rhetorical deflection through that dismissive "I don't know" at the start—one might have considered a much more productive path:
- if there is indeed an issue, perhaps there is some underlying injustice regarding the entire matter.

In light of such a suspicion, wouldn't it be more appropriate to seek an impartial review of the case? Unfortunately, that isn't happening here. Your attitude toward Kenneth Peterson5 suggests you aren't even questioning the validity of his inquiry, yet you simultaneously imply this has nothing to do with the actual facts. It seems you are simply showing favoritism toward certain forum members who happen to think differently than Kenneth Peterson5, all without even bothering to look into the specifics of the case! It almost feels as though you've preemptively decided that Kenneth Peterson5's suggestions aren't worth considering. Might I ask, what exactly is your reasoning for that?

Edward Flores4, you got anything to add to the actual topic? What's your angle on spirituality—what are you looking for, or what are you bringing to the table?

"Bringing something to the table" is such a loaded phrase... I’m not really out here making offers. Part of that is just pure laziness on my part, but the other part is this belief that everything should be exactly how it is—messy and imperfect. See, perfection is an endpoint, and once you hit the end of everything, there's nothing left to do 🙂

Honestly, after your last post, I don't feel like I have much more to contribute to the core subject. That post from Amanda Roberts21 did a stellar job of distilling the essentials. We should probably be paying attention to the ideas themselves rather than getting hung up on people's identities. If anything, that should be the "trademark" of any spiritual pursuit... don't you think?

You definitely caught onto my temperament... though I wouldn't say my fuse is short, it's more that I tend to get "hooked" on things—and yeah, you nailed it. I have plenty of patience to go around, but I don't just hand it out to anyone by default. I reserve my patience for good ideas; when it comes to people obsessing over their own identities, I usually just meet them with my own stubborn sense of self.

Looking at what you wrote, though, your vision for how moderation should work is actually quite sound, and I don't really have anything to argue with. This PDF has some genuinely solid concepts buried in there, but they're pretty deeply smothered by vanity and this constant parade of egos. I wish you nothing but luck and a massive amount of patience with the moderator duties... you're going to need it, because that "ego parade" always seems to happen right under the noses of local "dictators."

Just so we're clear, I don't expect the members or the mods to put up with my little "avatar strolls," so if I ever get banned for being a nuisance, I totally get it. I realize that letting me slide might trigger a massive protest right outside the "main office," and I know firsthand that dealing with those kinds of crowds can be a real pain in the ass. 🙂

Anyway... that's all I've got on the topic. 😁

Honestly, this forum is pretty much bottom-of-the-barrel—but not because of the platform itself, just because of the people and the absolute nonsense they talk about. I really only ever check out those first four pinned threads at the top. They’re actually decent and occasionally useful. Everything else? Not worth the bandwidth.

Fazlija,
so, you’re suggesting we actually change things up?
bring in some new blood—people who are spiritual, experienced, smart, and actually lead with heart?

PS
Down in my neck of the woods, folks have a rule about this—you only get a seat at the table to criticize if you
a) actually believe you can do better, and
b) are willing to roll up your sleeves and put in the work to make it happen.
