You could also argue that Mario Monti basically tanked, sitting under 10% right now when his pre-election polls were hovering closer to 14 or 15%. That means even if Berzani—who was backing him and eyeing up a coalition—actually pulls through, he’s going to run into a massive wall in the House of Representatives trying to play nice with someone who has zero mandate from the people.

You've got a point there. Mario Monti and Bersani are definitely the losers here, while Beppe Grillo and Silvio Berlusconi are walking away as the winners.

The pollsters really missed the mark on this one.

It looks increasingly likely that Berlusconi will take control of the legislature too, since the exit polls for both the Senate and the House are looking pretty much identical.

Any idea when the House results start trickling in? 😕

Man, if the left actually tanks in both chambers after leading by such a huge margin in all those pre-election polls, that would be a massive, massive blowout.

That’s a pretty massive chunk of votes already in the bag, so looks like Silvio might actually pull this off and take the win 😁

In Sicily, Beppe Grillo came out on top. He secured 31% compared to Silvio Berlusconi's 25%. 😁

Once the Senate votes are tallied, we should see the results for the House of Representatives rolling in.

If voters were lying to pollsters about the Senate, why wouldn't they do the same for the House? Honestly, Silvio Berlusconi should probably be walking away with a win in both houses at this point. ☕

Seems that way. It’s bizarre, though—both our media and the local news here are acting like it's some massive victory for the left. 😁

So, if you check out this link, you can really see how much the exit polls totally missed the mark compared to what actually happened on the ground. For the Democratic Party (and honestly, the whole left-wing coalition), they were off by more than 7%! 😲

I mean, either those exit polls were just super amateurish, or people were straight-up lying about who they voted for in mass numbers. I don't know, there isn't really a third option, I guess...

Oh, look at that headline on CNN: the left is on the verge of victory 😁
those overly eager liberal "leftists" must be celebrating way too early 🤣

meanwhile, over on Fox News, they can't even decide if Elly Schlein was ahead or if it's actually Berlusconi winning now 😁

but what's the word on your side? I just checked the New York Times and there isn't a single thing posted yet 😁

The US media is totally silent on this too.

It’s almost like they think the elections are happening in Cambodia instead of Italy, haha! 🙄

The only thing missing here is the total count...

Look, we aren't exactly neighbors. We just happen to share a massive coastline. 😵

These latest numbers are coming straight from the Department of Justice.

------

The Right-wing is going to sweep Lombardy, Sicily, and Veneto, which means they’ll secure a majority in the Senate.

Just saw an update from ABC News two minutes ago—it's a dead heat! They're both sitting right at 30.7%

Aha, looks like Corriere is pretty much lining up with what ABC News is reporting:
Senate:
Berlusconi 32.8% Berzani 29.2% Beppe Grillo 24%

(halfway through the count)

House of Representatives:
Berzani 33.83% Berlusconi 24.78% Beppe Grillo 25.62%

(only 15% counted so far)

Pier Luigi Bersani is holding the lead in the Senate. The Center-Left coalition is ahead.

It’s not even an error at this point, but look how that gap in the House is actually shrinking; we're sitting at 33.14 versus 25.46 right now.
