Hey everyone,

So, I’ve got my state inspection coming up in just a few days, and naturally—of course—the whole insurance question is staring me in the face. I'm talking full coverage, not just basic liability.

Right now, I'm with GEICO, but honestly, after seeing how many people have been complaining about them dodging claims lately, I’m having second thoughts about renewing my policy with them.

So, what would you guys recommend for solid coverage?

I’ve been shopping around a bit, and it seems like all the major providers are priced pretty much the same—maybe a difference of $567 a dollar or two—so price isn't really the deciding factor here. What I actually care about is finding someone who won't screw me over if—God forbid—there's an accident.

Look, you wouldn't go after your own liability insurance for that. You’d be coming after the other person's policy—the one responsible for the damage in the first place.

Go with Allstate, State Farm, or just stick with an American provider.

Honestly, Alice seems like the most solid bet to me right now.

I was reading some reviews earlier—apparently, those local regional players are totally unreliable.

If you haven't opted for passenger insurance on an AO policy, it honestly doesn't matter which provider you pick for yourself, since you aren't the one being billed under your own policy anyway. I guess if you want to make things easier for the person you actually caused damage to, it might be a good idea to steer clear of Berkshire Hathaway..

That’s totally backwards!

You're driving, and your family or some friends are in the car with you. You hide an accident, and they end up injured—more or less seriously. All of them are covered under YOUR policy. So, it actually matters a lot whether you're forcing your family or buddies to deal with the headache of Allstate or State Farm, or if they get to settle things smoothly with someone like GEICO.

Well, here’s the official proof that State Farm is absolute garbage. The SEC finally slapped them with a penalty.

The punishment? They’ve been ordered to go public with their shady behavior toward policyholders—though sadly, they’re only making them publish it in The New York Times.

I’m definitely ditching the local guys—I'm going all-in with Allstate instead.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone!

Does anyone have experience with Google insurance?

They offered me the best rates I've seen—compared to other providers—for both liability and collision coverage on a brand-new car, so I'm thinking about just giving them my money... maybe.

Does anyone know if there's a way to look up how insurance companies break down coverage based on engine size online? I'm trying to figure out how they actually categorize different horsepower classes. Thanks!

Just stumbled upon this news story...

Does this mean our insurance options are about to shrink? 🙂--kind of worried about that!

I’d go with GEICO.

After dealing with some headaches at Allianz and GEICO, I switched to General five years ago—and honestly, I haven't had a single issue with claims, whether it's liability or collision.

This news is from September 2012, 🙂 and from what I can tell, nothing too crazy actually happened.
Actually, if anything, Allianz is still leading the pack in profits ahead of State Farm and everyone else.
For instance, they offered me (if I renew with them) a free bonus protector policy covering up to 40$0.00 in damages for three years, plus an extra policy for the driver at fault covering bodily injury or death up to 500$0.00.

They also offered me their cheapest mandatory liability policy, $650 which includes passenger coverage of 40,000 / 80,000, and that’s about the same price I’d get from State Farm or GEICO.$667

Someone mentioned earlier that State Farm was offering a $167 lower registration price in the Midwest, but I checked with them yesterday and they want $693 including the passenger coverage. (In the US, they ask $667 for that as well)

Anyway, regarding the quality of the coverage—if you care more about service than just finding the lowest price—my personal ranking would be:
1. GENERAL
2. State Farm
3. EVERYONE ELSE

My own personal experience with:
Allianz - they flat-out refused to pay out my claim just because I filed the paperwork a little too late.

State Farm - they sold me some bogus collision coverage, and honestly, when I pointed out that something seemed off, they just brushed me off with that whole "just give us the cash, we'll take care of you, buddy" routine. Everything seemed totally fine while they were taking my money, and they kept telling me not to worry about a thing, but once the accident actually happened... nothing. Not a dime.

Just stay far away from these guys; they're nothing but scammers and thieves.

Here’s what happened to me personally with:
Europe—they straight up refused to pay out my claim just because they claimed the filing was too late.

Adriatic—they sold me a total fake when it came to the collision coverage; I mean, if I pointed out something looked off, they'd just brush me off with stuff like, "just hand over the cash, buddy, it'll all work out," and everything seemed fine until it was time to actually pay... then suddenly, I got absolutely nothing.

Seriously, stay far away from them; they're nothing but scammers and thieves.

Stay far away from anything related to the Adriatic or Europe. They’re basically sister companies, and let me tell you, you'll never see a dime of compensation from them when things go south.

Can confirm. Scammers and thieves.

State Farm is actually solid. I've had to file a few claims over the last couple of years, and honestly, everything just got handled pretty fast without any massive headaches, whether it was my liability or the collision coverage.
