Question.

What's the daily limit on a Microsoft Visa debit card for foreign currency transactions? If I recall correctly, it's around 5 $0.00?

Here’s the thing: I need to withdraw $1833. So, if I pull $5,000 one day, can I just grab $167 the next? Also, does the bank hit you with extra fees for those larger amounts, or for withdrawing dollars from an ATM if my account is sitting in euros?

If you're hitting up JPMorgan Chase ATMs, there aren't any fees at all. As for that daily limit, you're spot on.

Hey there—does anyone happen to know which bank has the most ATMs spread out across the US?
Also, just checking... if I get an account, will I be able to use my card while traveling outside the States too?
Oh, and one more thing—is there a specific bank out there that doesn't charge those pesky monthly maintenance fees for checking accounts?

Probably JPMorgan Chase, then Bank of America, maybe Visa
All cards (Maestro and Visa) work at ATMs outside the US too (just don't expect it to be free)

How much does this run me? And what about the monthly fees?

Hello,

Tonight I made a deposit at a Wells Fargo ATM $2000 and experienced something highly unusual

I inserted my card, entered my PIN, and while I was counting out the cash, a prompt appeared asking if I needed more time—yes or no. While that message was still on the screen, I fed the cash into the slot and hit NO.

The machine didn't actually register the "NO" input immediately; instead, I just heard the sound of the machine counting the bills.

Suddenly, a message popped up stating that my money had not been accepted, accompanied by an image of the ATM featuring a red X over the cash slot.

Immediately after that, a notification appeared stating that the transaction had been terminated at my request.

The machine ejected my card, but it failed to provide any receipt or confirmation regarding the deposit amount.

The cash is currently stuck inside the ATM.

I have checked my account balance, and there is absolutely no record of this deposit being credited.

I am unsure of the best course of action here. My only solace is that the machine is under video surveillance, which should allow me to prove that the cash was indeed inserted.

You should probably get down to Chase and report this as soon as you can...

You just give the bank a call, and they’ll have someone count up the cash from the ATM before depositing everything straight into your checking account.

Just a quick heads-up here, because I don't think all the staff at JPMorgan Chase actually know this:

If you're looking at the standard banking packages, it might seem like there aren't any extra fees when you withdraw cash abroad using JPMorgan Chase ATMs in Italy or other countries on their list. It looks pretty seamless on paper.

But, I guess it’s not quite that simple. If you have a foreign currency account included in your package and try to pull cash out with a Visa Electron card from that account, they'll hit you with a commission fee.

The only way to avoid that specific fee is by using a debit card linked to a US dollar checking account, but even then, they make their money on the conversion rate—they basically use their own retail exchange rate for the transaction.

It was honestly a bit strange; when I went into the branch in New York City on Jeffersonian, the teller didn't really grasp what I was asking. She was almost "politely" dismissive, acting like there wasn't much she could do about it.

I asked if someone more experienced could take a look, and her colleague initially insisted it wasn't possible to check, but after digging into it, she eventually confirmed that, unfortunately, it's exactly how it works.

Hi there!

I’m looking for some clarification regarding cash advances using my American Express cards while traveling abroad.

To give you some context, I hold two different American Express cards from JP Morgan Chase—one is the premium version with the heart design, and the other is the standard green one. Both cards have a specific cash withdrawal limit within the US $500, but when I'm traveling internationally, the limit is set at $600.

I have two specific questions I was hoping someone could help me with:

1. If I have already withdrawn $500 here in the States, does that impact my ability to withdraw the full $600 abroad? Do I need to pay down my current balance first to "reset" that international limit, or are those two things treated completely separately? It seems likely they aren't connected, but I’d feel much better getting a definitive answer.

2. Since I’m currently living in Washington, D.C., and things are a bit tight financially right now, I’m planning to withdraw that $600. A friend of mine did something similar recently; she just drove across the border into Delaware and handled it there quite easily. Her limit was actually $500, and they just gave her $250 on the first day and another $250 the next. She used a local post office near the border to get it done in about ten minutes. Would that be a viable plan for me, or is there a better way? Also, should I specifically look for ATMs that display the American Express logo to ensure the transaction goes through smoothly without any hiccups?

Thanks so much for your help!

Back in the day in Canada, you could only pull cash from an American Express at the post office, and even then, they capped you at $250 per day. You should probably give them a call—the number is right on the back of your card—just to see if their rules have changed since then...

Just wanted to drop a quick note here in case anyone was wondering. I was over in Canada recently and managed to pick up $250 in cash at the local post office—that happened to be my daily limit on my American Express card.

As far as I can tell, the cash withdrawal limits on an American Express card at Bank of America ATMs depend on their affiliation with the JPMorgan Chase group, much like how our local Wells Fargo operates.

Hey everyone, I was wondering about the ATM setups at Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo. Specifically, do those last two even offer cash deposit machines here in the States? I'm also curious about extra features—like being able to buy prepaid phone credits—and how their interfaces stack up against the other big banks compared to...

Here are my own observations and some info regarding the ATMs used by the major banks:

I noticed this while withdrawing funds from my PayPal card held in USD.

I never, ever use Dynamic Currency Conversion at an ATM, regardless of which bank owns it. That goes for my Chime card too—basically any card that isn't denominated in US Dollars.

Hey, quick question... can I actually pull cash out in Germany using an American card? Which ATMs should I be looking for, and what kind of fees am I going to get hit with here...?
