Ethan Thomas40 said:Hey, I know some of you have already touched on this, but I just need to say it out loud to ease my mind a bit. 😁 So, I only opted for the overdraft portion of my student banking package. For a while now, I’ve been sitting in a pretty deep deficit, even though I have steady deposits coming in every month... it's just how it is.
The other day, I was logged into my JPMorgan Chase online banking checking over my accounts, and when I saw that my overdraft limit expires on November 30th, I nearly had a heart attack. 🙂 Does that limit automatically extend for another six months, or what?

Well, if that's what it says, I guess that overdraft lasts forever since that date doesn't actually exist. 😂

It’ll bounce back, honestly. As long as you don't run into any major issues in the meantime, everything should be fine. If you generally keep things organized, it usually just resets itself automatically.

What exactly do you mean by "tricky"? I have steady deposits hitting my account every single month, and there's always more than enough cash on hand to cover the interest payments.

Don't go over $367. Once you hit that limit, the system automatically cuts off your overdraft and installment plan options.

I'm thinking about signing up for this student package over at JPMorgan Chase, which comes with a checking account and everything... I was just wondering, would it be an issue if I used that specific account for all my online shopping? You know, since I'll have to transfer certain amounts to cover my purchases. Right now, I've been using my foreign currency account for that, but since it isn't part of the bundle, I'd end up paying $1.75 for the package plus $1.75 for the currency account, which honestly feels like a total waste when I could just use my checking account for web orders... I also stumbled upon some confusing info regarding taxes on checking accounts, and I'm still a little fuzzy on how that works🤷

As long as you're just transferring funds into your own account, there’s no tax trigger involved, so honestly, feel free to go ahead and take it

This might sound like a stupid question, but since this is my first time dealing with this, I have to ask. If I just walk up to the teller at JPMorgan Chase and ask about installment plans, what happens next? Do I just end up with a separate bill for every single monthly payment, one by one?

Look, you just tell them how many monthly payments you want, swipe your card, and grab the receipt showing the total price and the installment plan. Your first payment hits alongside your next billing cycle—basically, it'll show up on the same statement as all your other expenses for that month.

I was wondering, do I actually need to send my bank proof of enrollment every single academic year to show I'm still a full-time student, or does that status just kind of stay valid for a certain amount of time?

Nah, just once, right when you open the package.

So, I guess... how long does that actually stay valid for?

That package? It doesn't expire; it stays active until you decide to cancel it yourself (like once you land a job).

I mean, if I’m reading that pamphlet right, you can probably keep using it until you hit 27. It says so right there in the fine print 🙂

It says it’s opening by the end of the year, but you can't actually use it until then.

I picked this up a few days ago, and now I've run into a bit of a snag

I need to make a purchase using PayPal, which is linked directly to my JPMorgan Chase checking account... but they've set up an automatic debit from my balance, and now I can't get the payment through. Can I just transfer funds into my checking account via online banking to cover it, and if so, what's the best way to handle that?

You can. Just head over to your payment portal, fill it out, and the money hits your checking account instantly.

Thanks so much for that.😉

But I have one more question... is there an extra fee for that JPMorgan Chase package beyond the standard $1.75 for my checking account?

I ended up getting the mobile banking setup along with the phone token because they told me I’d have to pay a $17 monthly membership fee if I just wanted the standard hardware token... so I went with that. However, I just deactivated the mobile access online since I can't even get the app to install on my current phone, and it was eating up data on my other device anyway. So, how much am I actually paying for this?$2.75 Am I still being charged for it, or does deactivating it stop the fees?

There aren't any extra fees involved; everything is already bundled into the $1.75.

The Chase Mobile app barely uses up any data at all, which was actually a pretty pleasant surprise for me 👍
