Six months of nonstop stress finally caught up with me. It's been rough—so much uncertainty, waiting on things I couldn't control, just constant uphill battles... and now that things are finally starting to look up after all that fighting, I feel like I've totally shut down and lost my spark.

Any advice on how to snap out of it? 😢

It’s tough... yeah, I guess, but it’s definitely not impossible. Time is on our side, and if someone actually comes along who’s empathetic, caring, and reliable... everything just moves way faster. You just gotta open your eyes.👍

Oh man, nooooo, you totally misread me... it's the same guy, same relationship.

Sorry.
So what's even the big deal then?

So what's the issue then?

Well, we went through some rough patches and I tried so hard to make things work, but I was constantly having to shut down just to protect myself from getting hurt... and now that everything is finally fine again, I think all that stress and shock just left me feeling totally numb.

Everything feels hollow.

That’s what people call total disorientation. It’s a heavy fog, but eventually, it clears.

No, it isn't confusion. I just can't feel anything anymore. It's a defense mechanism, I know, but I don't know how to fix it... or if it even can be fixed.
It used to happen from time to time. When things got rough, I'd shut down for an hour, maybe two, or half a day. But now it's spiraled out of control. I haven't felt a thing in days, and honestly? I'm terrified of feeling anything again because...

It used to happen in waves. When things got heavy, I’d shut down—maybe for an hour, maybe a couple of hours, sometimes half a day. But eventually, it would spiral into something totally uncontrollable. Now, it’s been days of absolute nothingness. To be honest, I’m actually terrified of feeling something again because...

Just prick your finger with a needle and see if you feel a thing.🙂 Tell me, did that little bit of dark humor bring even a momentary smile to your face?😘

I went through something pretty similar a long time ago.
I’m still with that person, but those feelings—that raw intensity—never really climbed back up to where they used to be, and as for quality, well, that shifts naturally over the years and everything you go through anyway.
I’m not sure if "psychology" can actually offer a way out here.
Or perhaps it just comes down to whether you decide if this version of life is enough for you, and if you can truly be happy living with this version of yourself—if that makes sense.

Now I'm still with that person, but those intense feelings never really hit that same peak again. And quality? That just shifts naturally as you get older and go through life.
Not sure if "psychology" can even fix anything here.
Maybe it's just on you to decide if this level of connection is enough, and if you're actually happy being with... well, this version of yourself.

I know it's all in my head, obviously...
But I think I just need some solo time to clear my head. Just a week or two alone to reset before starting over...
Whatever that looks like. 🙂

It’s not really about them being the bad guy, it's more about everything else going wrong at once...

Jason Sanchez3 said:Look, I get it, I really do... I know most of this is probably just stuck in my own head, you know? Like, I'm fully aware that it’s all just mental gymnastics and I'm probably just overthinking the whole damn thing... maybe.
I mean, I guess I probably just need to go off the grid for a bit and work on myself, you know? Like, maybe just take a week or two to clear my head so I can actually start over with a clean slate...
I don't even care how that whole thing kicked off, honestly. 🙂

I mean, I guess it’s not even really about that person being at fault, it's more like everything just kind of went sideways due to the circumstances...

Once feelings shift, man, they just don't go back to how they used to be, I guess... and honestly, it doesn't even matter who's at fault or who messed up.
I guess the only real silver lining is that tomorrow’s another day, and honestly, we just gotta push through it again.🙏 Look, I guess you just gotta take these experiences and run with them. Life keeps moving regardless, so you might as well try to point it toward something actually beautiful and better for once... maybe.

Kevin Wilson8 said:Once feelings have shifted—and they inevitably do—it is quite difficult to force them back to their original state. At that point, determining who is at fault becomes a secondary concern.

That is exactly what I tell myself whenever I find myself mired in those romantic dramas and little fairy tales... once everything has already fallen apart, dwelling on who is to blame doesn't help much... and honestly, it makes things a bit easier to bear...

If you want me to be a total buzzkill, I went through the exact same thing after being together from junior year through graduation. My girl felt the same way. But man, we just couldn't make it work. It was over.👎

I don't think you should be looking at things so gloomily. 😎
One door closing is just the start of something else...🙂
When everything in my life totally fell apart after twenty years, when I had basically given up all hope; my husband came along, and he wasn't even the type I thought I wanted, he was actually way better!

I guess saying "exact same thing" was a bit much since I didn't give any details...
Basically, my guy was going through a brutal time with his career. He wasn't sure if he could even love me or if he wanted to because he was shutting everyone out, but I stuck by him. I really pushed myself and gave way more than I actually had left in the tank. We were constantly on edge because we weren't sure if he'd stay here in the States or move away, so things were always up in the air. Then, suddenly, he decided he wanted to give it a shot. But after a whole year of intense stress, trying so hard, and losing myself in the process, I think I just shut down. Now, I honestly don't know if I can feel anything anymore, or if I even want to.

Ah, the classic scenario. You wanted him desperately when he was out of reach, but now that he's actually yours, the spark is gone. Grow up.
