I’ve been wondering lately... is there some weird reason why girls or women like me always seem to attract the wrong crowd? Like, why do I keep getting hit on by guys who just aren't great people? I'm talking about types with massive egos, super frustrated dudes, or just generally awkward, sketchy characters... does that actually mean something is wrong with me? Am I somehow attracting this energy because I'm a bad person too?

I’ve honestly found myself asking that exact same question more often than I care to admit lately!

It isn't really that people just latch onto us, but rather that we’re the ones actively choosing who we want to hang out with, build friendships with, and let into our inner circles.

If you feel like you're constantly tripping over the same hurdles, it’s probably because that one specific lesson hasn't quite clicked yet. You really have to sit down and figure out WHAT THAT LESSON IS, master it, stop gravitating toward the same old personalities, and start looking for a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CROWD... because I promise you, those new types of people aren't hanging out in the same social bubbles you've been stuck in until now...

I can't tell if I'm just totally overcomplicating things here, though!

..it’s possible you’re projecting something that attracts those kinds of people... it isn't necessarily a crime, but I don't believe you'll ever truly understand what's actually going on without some outside help (like a solid therapist)

It’s not really like people just stick to us; it’s more like we’re the ones picking who we hang out with and call friends in the first place.

Why do you keep making the same mistakes? Because you clearly haven't learned the lesson yet. Think about WHAT YOU NEED TO LEARN, actually learn it, stop hanging out with those same types of people, and find a NEW CROWD... trust me, they won't be running in the same circles you've been stuck in until now...

Am I overthinking this?

Man, once those types of people get under your skin, it's so hard to shake 'em off...

And hey, maybe I am projecting... gotta work on my vibe, like you already told me...

I totally get where you're coming from, because it feels like they’re just drawn to that specific energy we put out there, you know, our overall vibe and attitude.

A predator isn't going to pick a fight in a dark Chicago alleyway with a woman who’s walking with purpose and total confidence. They’re always going to target someone who looks uncertain, someone who’s walking tense and constantly glancing over their shoulder.

Now, sure, you could argue that those types of people are attracted to insecurity. But I’d say it’s more like insecure women actually attract predators. It really just depends on how you look at it, but either way, we're dealing with the exact same issue!

Yeah, there’s definitely some truth to that. I know I can be pretty unsure of myself—well, maybe not even "unsure" so much as just totally oblivious... but then again, whenever I actually try to act confident, nobody even bothers talking to me. Or if they do, it's always people looking for a second mom rather than a peer...

But you can't fake this through body language alone. I think it's more about the energy we put out there; you can't really mask it. If confidence were just an outward performance, wouldn't all those women who look totally composed and empowered also have husbands at home beating them?
When I was at my psychiatrist's office, I saw this woman sitting there—a total bombshell, incredibly striking and overtly sexual in her style. Yet, she told me she’d never been in a relationship because she constantly feels like she's repelling men. It turned out she had been abused as a child, so despite looking "available," people perceived her as closed off. I think men pick up on that specific vibration she gives off, and there is no way to hide it. It might be a blunt example, but you get what I mean.

Does this mean there’s something wrong with me? Am I somehow attracting this energy because of who I am?

Honestly, it might just be your environment. Maybe the crowd you're hanging out in is giving off a vibe that doesn't actually represent who you are, so you end up meeting people who don't "get" you. Try acting a bit more outgoing or assertive for a while and see if the dynamic shifts.👍

Just because you see her as some total bombshell doesn't mean guys actually feel that way... I’ve got this one friend who looks incredible when she puts in the effort, but honestly, men seem pretty indifferent toward her most of the time. They rarely even approach her. Whenever we're out at a bar or something, it’s always her other girlfriends getting all the attention... I don't think she just radiates that kind of raw magnetism. Men can usually sense that vibe, and that's when they move in.

I guess for me, it comes down to some insecurity or maybe just being totally unaware of my own energy... it applies to both guys and girls, really. People can pick up on those vibes where they think they can easily manipulate someone through a look, body language, or just an attitude... which isn't even how I actually am, it's just how I come off sometimes... though lately, I'm not really letting anyone pull that stuff on me anymore... so people end up getting the wrong idea.

Just some weird label they stuck on you. Honestly? Try being a little obnoxious for a bit. Just to see what happens.👍 I can't see any text to rewrite! Wait, how do you figure the world isn't on my side? Like, walk me through that. Why would people get this vibe from me that I don't even recognize in myself? I don't really get it. I always figured if you're just vibing in your own skin, that's how people are gonna see you... if you're feeling shaky, anxious, or totally closed off, then yeah, that's probably how you'll come across to everyone else.

Insecure, scared, shut down—basically, you're just making yourself an easy target. You don't need that! If you have to be the quiet type, at least try to be intuitive and smart about it. Seriously, go take a walk by yourself when the weather's nice; it does wonders for building up your grit...

And exactly how is one supposed to achieve that? I highly doubt you can just make a conscious decision like, "Starting today, I will be intuitive, sweet, and self-assured," and then simply wake up tomorrow as that person.😉

Man, wouldn't it be great if you could just wish for something and have it show up the next morning? Total dream. But honestly, nobody should just accept their flaws as some permanent shield everyone else has to deal with. You’ve gotta level up when you feel your spark fading or your drive hitting zero. There are a million ways to do that—and if you haven't figured out your own rhythm yet, maybe it's time to go talk to a pro. Everyone's got their own playbook, right?

I honestly feel like you’ve already found the answer deep down inside yourself! It really comes down to what you're putting out into the universe—if you aren't feeling confident in your own skin, you might just end up attracting those types of energy vampires who love to take advantage of others.
On the flip side, if you swing too far in the other direction, you'll probably just find people looking for a caretaker to clean up after them, which isn't exactly ideal either because, let's be honest, finding a truly balanced, well-adjusted person is actually the hardest part of the whole game. 🙂 😘

So, how do women who seem totally confident and self-assured end up in situations where they're being abused by their husbands at home?
I actually remember sitting in my therapist's office once and seeing this woman who was a total knockout—just incredibly stunning and overtly feminine in everything from her style to her presence—but she’d never been in a relationship because she felt like she was constantly repelling men; it turns out she had suffered abuse during her childhood, so even though she looked "approachable," people actually perceived her as closed off, and I really believe men can sense that underlying energy no matter what, if that makes any sense at all!

Do you think there was actually a way for her to heal from that? Like, if she looks great and seems accessible on the surface, is there a way to stop attracting guys based on those old traumas?

She actually went to see a therapist with me. She claims she’s feeling much better now that she’s finally faced it head-on, which suggests she is making progress. 👍 I'm not saying a psychiatrist is some kind of God, but for an issue like this, professional help is absolutely necessary (even my own therapist helped me out, even if my issues aren't nearly as heavy as hers).
