redviper17 said:Uff, isn't two years in advance a bit much?😲 I booked mine a year and three months ahead, and even that felt way too early, but that was only because I was hunting for a specific venue in San Francisco and my guest list is huge. Honestly, I don't think a restaurant would even be able to give you an accurate quote this far out. Maybe try aiming for late 2010 instead?

Don't sweat it too much—I booked all the big stuff a year and three months early, and by then, the band I actually wanted was already gone...

We were also scouting venues two years ahead, just to get a feel for pricing, capacity, and general terms. Some people actually asked us if we were *sure* we'd still be together in two years, 😬 though.

If you know someone who’s already been through the wedding ringer—like a family member or a close friend—they might give you a better idea of how things actually work on the ground. Since I was the first one in my circle to tie the knot, I didn't really have anyone to go to for advice. Plus, I don't live in San Francisco, so I was doing everything remotely. Starting the research two years early worked perfectly for me; it kept everything stress-free and let me pick exactly what I wanted, rather than settling for whatever was left over on my chosen date.

When it comes to making invitations, boutonnieres, thank-you notes, or favors, I'm a big fan of the DIY route. 😁 You get to make it exactly your style, and you can definitely keep the costs down.

I picked up my supplies online (mostly on eBay), grabbed ribbons at Good Partner in the Industrial District (Washington, D.C.), and got my paper and cardstock from Grafko on Orchard Street (Washington, D.C.). I think Grafko ships all over the US, and you can ask them to send sample packs of paper and cardstock—I know they'll send those for free if you ask. There's a shop in Dugopolj that carries some of the ribbons from Good Partner, but unless you have a business license or something, you'll end up spending a minimum of $100 (they also have a huge selection of flowers, decor, fancy paper, baskets, etc.), and they tend to be pricier than the shops in D.C.

Jeremy Wilson5 said:When it comes to cakes, you should probably plan on one cake serving about 20 people. So, for a crowd of 200, I’d suggest aiming for 10 cakes if you're going with something like a croquant; however, if you opt for a traditional wedding cake, maybe 2 or 3 fewer would suffice. If you're thinking about serving extra sweets later on, you might want to account for one additional cake just to be safe.
I’d also suggest looking into the Mississippi Delta, at least regarding their decorations. I haven't personally tried them, but I imagine the flavors are somewhat similar—there's just nothing quite like homemade, I suppose.
The closest local option would be an American Pie. They are located up in the hills, right near that famous first Kerum shop (at least, that's how it was explained to me! :-). Generally speaking, the women there make absolutely wonderful cakes and wedding treats.

Thanks 😍
But how many pounds of sweets should I actually order?🤷

Well, I honestly can't say for sure in terms of weight, but maybe about one pound for every ten people?

I was in the exact same boat! No one in my family was getting married, most of my girlfriends were already hitched, and some weren't even dating, so I felt like I was totally flying blind when it came to experience or help. I spent two years lurking on forums, then we put down the deposit for the venue about fifteen months out. We locked in the church, the DJ, and the photographer exactly one year in advance. And yeah, everyone kept asking us if we'd still be together in a year! 🙄 Of course, paying those deposits so far in advance made things much easier on our budget, and it gave me enough time to DIY all the decorations and boutonnieres myself...🤷

My group does backing tracks—if you’re still looking for that, just let me know. It’s six of us total... two guitars and a mandolin...

So, here’s the lowdown on my wedding details:

Venue: The Grand Ballroom in San Francisco—seriously, this place blew me away from the second I started touring venues. The owners were absolute legends and went above and beyond to make sure everything was exactly how I pictured it. A massive THANK YOU to them... they truly made my dream day perfect.
All my guests were raving about the service, the food, and just the whole vibe. These people worked so hard to turn my vision into reality, handling everything from the tiny table arrangements to the awesome kids' station.

Photography: Getty Images—Marin and Damian, you guys are the best! Even though the weather decided to act up, they absolutely crushed it. I can't recommend them enough... they really know their craft. Despite the rain, they didn't skip a beat and gave it their all to capture every single moment, from the ceremony and reception to our portraits and even the shoot the next day.

Band: Barbary—from the very first time we talked, I knew they wouldn't let me down, and man, were they right! From our first dance until they were still rocking out at 5:30 AM, these guys were incredible. They only took quick 10-minute breaks, kept the dance floor packed the entire night, and even the older crowd was the first one up to dance! Little touches, like the drummer jamming while the cake was being brought out, meant the world to us. Our guests were totally blown away. Highly, highly recommend!

Makeup: Antonia—I honestly don't have enough praise for her. She totally knows her stuff and proved it. She used high-end professional makeup that stayed flawless on my face until I finally got home—and it held up perfectly for my maid of honor and sister too!

Cakes and Sweets: Delta Florist👍

Florist: Petals & Blooms—I feel like any comment would be overkill because they literally brought everything I imagined to life. It was spot on.

Dress: Mila Brnaze Bridal Boutique—a huge thank you to Mrs. Mila. She ordered a dress that was basically made for me. Seriously, go see her!

There are so many more little details I could dive into, so I'll write more once I have a bit more free time!

I was reading about how the band Orange http://www.oranz-music.com/ recently played a gig for Husarica at their party here in San Francisco 🙂

On another note, does anyone here actually listen to Best? I haven’t noticed them being mentioned on this forum before, but I happened to stumble upon them on YouTube and they seem pretty decent to me 🤷

God bless,
I guess I haven't quite taken that next step yet... even though the days are just slipping by...😢

Does anyone happen to know what weddings are like at the Marriott? It’s a 5-star hotel, but I find myself wondering since I haven't heard any positive stories yet...😕
What are their banquet halls like? How is the food? And what about the pricing???

I would be so incredibly grateful for any information you might have!!! 👍
Thank you all so much!!

I highly recommend the band Fenix; they are truly wonderful, and I had the pleasure of seeing them perform at three different festivals.👍👍👍

wanderingtrucker19 said:Ladies, I could use some advice... has anyone ever pulled off a wedding like this:
- intimate (maybe 15-20 close family and friends; followed by a massive blowout party for everyone else a few days later)
- fall vibes (mid-October)
- coastal (somewhere along the coast between San Diego and Savannah)

My biggest worry is the weather—I know October was gorgeous last year, but I can't exactly bank on Mother Nature being that kind again. Also, if anyone has restaurant recommendations near the water, I'm all ears...

My partner is from that area and we'll likely be moving there permanently, so I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to local spots for a small wedding... Any help would be appreciated.

🙂

There are plenty of restaurants along that stretch. What kind of budget are you working with?

My future maid of honor was at a party at the lion recently, so I can pass on her thoughts... She said the hall is gorgeous and huge, but that's why the price tag is insane... obviously it depends on the menu, but they paid around $110 per person (that's what her relatives shelled out). They started with a buffet where there were some seafood bites (like an appetizer), then the servers brought out the main courses and all that fancy stuff... but that's really up to what you negotiate... overall, the price is 👎

Well, thanks for letting me know... $100 seems like a pretty steep price point to me 😲... I was wondering, what exactly does that cover???
Food?
Drinks?
Hard liquor?
Desserts??
Cake?
Decorations??
Flowers??

And how was the service?? I mean, were they actually allowed to keep the music playing until the early hours of the morning??

My concern is that if all those extra costs—like the decor, the champagne, and the hard liquor—are bundled together, it naturally drives up the cost per guest. So, I guess I'm wondering if everything really is included in that rate??? 😕
I would be so grateful for any information you can share, and if anyone happens to have some photos, that would be wonderful!! Please just send them my way... 👍
Thank you all so much!!
