Sad, is this toxic or what?
Even an apple from a farmer's market can be toxic. 😁

You eat it, you shit it out, and then you move on with your life.

Thank God I poop every day, so I don't have to worry about toxicity getting the best of me too much. 😁

But let’s be real: drugs have a certain level of toxicity. You can't deny that.
That's why I take milk thistle to support my liver whenever I'm on meds.

That said, speaking from experience, since I started my medication (about a year ago), my PHYSICAL health has improved massively.

My logic is pretty simple: stress is the root cause of most ailments, and being on medication keeps your stress levels way down. Naturally, your immune system follows suit.
At least, that's how I see it.

Before I was medicated, I was physically sick almost every single week... some virus, this ache, that pain... it never ended.

Just recently, I was right in the middle of a crowd of people who were clearly sick (I don't know if it was the flu or something else, but they were running fevers over 102)... and I didn't catch a single thing.

Plus, those issues I've dealt with since I was ten—my asthma and allergies—have basically vanished.
I had my first asthma attack right after my father passed away. I was ten. From that point on, I was practically living in hospitals. They threw every allergy and asthma med under the sun at me, but nothing worked.

Now? Dust, pollen, ragweed... none of it bothers me. Even mites.

It's entirely possible all my physical issues were rooted in my mental state.
And that isn't something you can just "willpower" your way out of. I tried everything before—piles of vitamins, strict diets—nothing did a damn thing for me compared to psychotropic meds.

I'm strictly talking about physical health here.

You can't catch the flu just because you're feeling depressed.

But personally? I believe if you're constantly feeding negative thoughts and bad vibes, you're basically inviting bad things into your life... though I know science won't back me up on that one.🙂

Look, you won't catch a virus just through sheer willpower, but you can absolutely wreck your immune system to the point where every bug going around sticks to you like glue.

Kevin Bailey2 said:Do antipsychotics cause a heavy addiction?

nah.

I was on Zyprexa for two months, then jumped straight onto Risperdal. I stuck with it for about 8 or 9 months, then just stopped cold turkey—no tapering, nothing. Just quit. And honestly? Nothing happened. No withdrawal, no "crisis," and those intrusive thoughts that put me on the meds in the first place didn't come crawling back.
Before all that, I had these brutal intrusive thoughts basically 24/7. They were at their absolute worst at night.

It’s been almost a year now (hitting the mark this May) and the thoughts haven't returned. I get an occasional one here and there—usually when my cycle hits—but I was dealing with that stuff long before any diagnosis, and I can handle it just fine without making a big deal out of it.🙂

Has anyone actually sat down with "Side Effects: Death by John Virapen," or perhaps caught his interview on "Science on the Edge"? Ever since I finished reading that, I’ve felt this overwhelming sense of dread regarding these medications, particularly the AP class. I’ve considered trying something like Q-pin, but the hesitation is paralyzing. Honestly, I don't put much stock in Sanval or Xanax either, yet I find myself stuck in this impossible dilemma: how does one even begin to choose the lesser of two evils?

@David Vaughn75, what medications are you currently on—and what are your dosages?
I can't quite recall your exact diagnoses...🤷

I'm not scared of anything. My grandma lived her whole life on nothing but herbal tea and Valerian, then switched to Paxil and lived to be over 90. A damn good 90 years, too. 😁

Oh my gosh, did you really deal with those too??? How did things settle down for you?? How long did that whole OCD phase last?
I'm dealing with them right now, though they happen less frequently; they drive me crazy during PMS. If you have a moment to reply, please do—I am honestly traumatized by these intrusive thoughts.

That’s great for you, I suppose, but my grandmother and great-grandmother both passed away from strokes at seventy-eight, so perhaps that’s why I’m a bit more cautious. Honestly, Paxil seems like a drop in the bucket compared to everything else out there. Back in the day, I used to take just one Paxil at night and call it a night; I wasn't dealing with anxiety or depression, I just had trouble sleeping. Now, even with Xanax, I'm having these horrific nightmares. I probably need something even stronger, but I just can't bring myself to start anything new. I tried Prozac for a short stint, but it never quite sat right with me—I always felt this lingering sense of dread every time I took it.

I feel the same way. We breathe polluted air, drink questionable tap water, and eat meat loaded with hormones and antibiotics—so I’d be a hypocrite if I claimed medication was the only thing poisoning us. At the end of the day, we all have to go eventually. I’d much rather pass away peacefully while I'm still young at heart than struggle through old age with my mind completely gone.

My intrusive thoughts weren't even OCD, more like psychosis 😬 (diagnosed F33.3)

They just... happened. Out of nowhere. But let's back up.

The first time anxiety and those intrusive thoughts hit me, I was 17 and totally losing my mind. (I actually had them once back in 6th grade, maybe 11 or 12, but that passed quickly). Then it all came back at 17 and just vanished on its own again. But when it hit me at 20, it wouldn't stop.😁
I was on Risperdal for a while (felt like forever to me), then I started looking into alternative stuff, and here I am. Not sure exactly what clicked, but I'm doing pretty much okay today. Now, I only get those intrusive thoughts maybe once every couple of months—like every second or third cycle, depending on how bad the PMS gets.

I doubt my experience will help you much because I think mine were a different breed of intrusive thoughts. Mine were violent and terrifying; I don't know what yours are like. I really hope they aren't even close, because I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.🙂

If you want, shoot me a DM and we can talk about it.🙂

Does that whole business with the water helping digestion actually work? My system is completely backed up right now, and honestly, I'm starting to get a little nervous about relying on those pills.

Brandon Lopez6, I’m sending you a DM—I deal with those kinds of intense obsessions too...😢
Jason Vaughn482, things just weren't working for me today.😢 I was drinking water constantly and it felt like I was just running to the restroom. Tonight, I'm sticking to some Pepto-Bismol tablets.

I’ve been on Cipralex for about two and a half months now. For the longest time, my insomnia was absolutely brutal—I was lucky if I got three hours of sleep, and some nights I didn't sleep at all. That went on for about three months straight. Fortunately, the medication has actually helped; I’m finally getting back to a near-normal sleep schedule. My plan is to stay on it until August and then start tapering off gradually. The only catch is that about a month ago, I started breaking out in hives. They usually flare up at night while I'm sleeping. I went to see a dermatologist, and they insisted it isn't caused by the Cipralex, but I can't help feeling a bit uneasy about it since I've never dealt with allergies before. I'm running some tests now, so we'll see what comes of that. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else here has experienced hives or urticaria as a side effect from antidepressants? I take my dose in the morning, yet the hives always seem to show up in the evening...

Skin rashes can definitely be a side effect of taking Lexapro—you should definitely check in with the doctor who prescribed it for you.

I took 25mg of Seroquel yesterday and actually managed to sleep for a solid 9 hours, 😍
but man, I feel completely drugged today. I have to force myself to focus on every little thing I do just so I don't screw everything up... which isn't exactly a win in my book. Usually, when I get my usual 6 hours of shut-eye, I wake up feeling totally fine and alert. Honestly, I think sticking to 6 hours might be better for me. It feels like this was prescribed as a mood stabilizer, but my moods aren't even really swinging that much to begin with. 😲
As for anxiety meds, I'm already tapering off them anyway; I only take them when absolutely necessary, averaging about 1 mg of Klonopin every other day. 🤷😕
The Seroquel just makes me feel stupid—like my brain is running in slow motion and my memory is shot. Has anyone else dealt with side effects like this?

That's pretty much what all antipsychotics do.

That sounds awful...🙂 🙂 🙂Thanks for the heads up.
I have a feeling things are going to be... well, thanks, but I'd really rather not deal with this when I head to the psychiatric clinic on Tuesday.😍

Yeah, and the absolute worst part is when people start noticing you've slowed down—that vacant, hollow stare. After what I went through with Zyprexa and Prozac, I'm strictly avoiding antipsychotics. Even at my last checkup, my doctor suggested swapping out my anxiety meds for 25 mg of Seroquel. Yeah... no thanks.
