I've been dealing with anxiety and depression—my current regimen includes Prozac, Brintellix, and Xanax (though I'm looking at alternatives since I'm worried about dependency)—plus Trazodone for sleep, though I've heard it's hard to find in some pharmacies lately. In really intense moments, I've occasionally been prescribed stronger stuff for a short week or so—maybe some mood stabilizers... but I'd honestly prefer to avoid those if possible.😉 (Generally speaking, they help get me back to baseline, if you can call it that.)
Do you think there's a connection here? 🙄

It’s day 14 since I went cold turkey on my Celexa because of the pregnancy.

For the last two days, it’s been a total mess—diarrhea, restlessness, feeling totally detached from reality, fever, zero motivation, depression, and full-blown panic attacks. Oh, and vomiting, but honestly, I’m pretty sure that’s just early pregnancy kicking in.

Both my psychiatrist and my OBGYN have been completely useless to me this week. I have no clue who I can actually turn to.

I can't even tell which symptoms are coming from the pregnancy and which ones are just the withdrawal hitting me.

Has anyone else here dealt with quitting antidepressants out of nowhere?

I'm seriously terrified that I'm actually going to lose my mind from stopping so fast.🙂

Go to the Emergency Psychiatric Clinic immediately.

Don't sweat it—they'll put you out like a baby. Just make sure you're upfront with the anesthesiologist about every single pill you've taken; I'm pretty sure you already know that part.😉

Reese 🙂 It has been two years since I last used it. At one point, I found out about my situation, and then there was the matter of surgery—I wasn't about that life. I actually still have a box sitting at home. About a month ago, I tested myself with one, and honestly, it didn't hit me as hard as I expected. It’s quite something, considering I haven't touched it in nearly two years. Still, I know it will knock me right out. 🙂 I am simply hoping that I will be permitted to take my Xanax on the day of the party; otherwise, I find myself seriously considering staying home. 🙂 But then again, they probably have some actual experience dealing with this kind of thing.

When I went in for my surgery, I wasn't allowed to take any medication for a day or two beforehand. On the drive to the hospital, I was having such bad panic attacks—my nurse could barely even get my blood pressure to stabilize, and she told me if I didn't calm down, the doctor wouldn't be able to proceed with the procedure.
I suppose it varies from doctor to doctor, so I really hope you don't end up having my kind of "luck"😲🙄

The nearest Emergency Psychiatric Clinic is way too far from me 50 miles. And honestly? I can't even last five minutes in a car without being hit by insane nausea and puking my guts out..

I saw my doctor at the Mayo Clinic today, and she was telling me that the diarrhea and chills could just be symptoms of withdrawal, while the vomiting might be pregnancy stuff. She suggested if things get really bad, I should just head back on the Celexa. Though, she lowkey thinks I’m just making most of this up in my own head.

Man, if I could just be sure I wasn't actually losing my mind from all this, life would be a whole lot easier.

Avery, I really feel I should consult with an anesthesiologist about this. I am aware that most patients are given something to help them relax during the night before, so I will simply suggest they find a way to accommodate me. Surely those medications are still readily available these days. You just have to speak up and let them know.

It feels a little weird to me that you're hitting withdrawal this hard after only three months on Lexapro. When I was tapering off a much higher dose of way stronger meds after being on them way longer, I barely felt anything. To be honest, it makes more sense to me that those are pregnancy symptoms rather than withdrawal.

I’ve been on Lexapro for the last 3 months, but before that, I was on Faverin for about 9 months, and before that, Fluval for like 2.5 years. So yeah, this isn't just a Lexapro thing... we're talking a full-on SSRI taper here...

Really hoping it's just pregnancy symptoms and nothing else 🙂

Sending good vibes your way... 🙂

Just try to be patient; everything will eventually settle down. 🙂))
The nausea is likely just from the pregnancy.
It has been a very long time since I personally tapered myself off Paxil. At the time, I didn't know anyone else taking medication, nor did I bother reading the instructions. For two weeks, I felt as though I were coming down with a bad flu combined with these strange electric shocks running through my body, but I had absolutely no idea what was happening to me. I didn't realize it then. It was a case of naive ignorance.

Best regards,

So, you just stopped cold turkey too? Why'd you do that? Did your symptoms come crawling back?

I felt like I was finally making progress, which is why I decided to discontinue my treatment. Unfortunately, things took a turn. A few months later, I found myself facing a situation almost identical to the one that triggered my initial need for therapy. It felt like being in a complete coma, and predictably, everything came rushing back.

Best regards,

I was taking Prozac about six months ago and simply stopped cold turkey without any issues whatsoever. Now, I’ve started again, though I’m only taking it every other day... mainly because I'm also on 7.5 mg of Lexapro and I don't want to overdo it. Last year, I also stopped taking 15 mg of Lexapro abruptly and felt nothing at all, but I ended up returning to it because my sleep was suffering.

Hey guys, Merry Christmas to everyone! To those celebrating... and to the rest of you, just ignore 🙂

Honestly, maybe all this is actually just pregnancy symptoms... Maybe the whole pregnancy and hormone rollercoaster just made my condition (if we’re being fancy and calling it a mental health disorder) flare up or get way worse.. Who knows..

Hormones play a massive role in everything. Like how anxiety spikes during regular PMS, it’s definitely going to happen during pregnancy too. 🙂
Just take it easy, and whenever things get heavy, just think about your baby. 🙂

Is it actually worth pairing medication with psychotherapy? I’ve heard some talk suggesting that therapy doesn't really do much once you're north of 25.

Does anyone here actually take mood stabilizers?
I was on Lamictal for a while, but honestly, I don't think it did a single thing to stabilize me at all.

Make sure to tune in to HRT1 at 2:00 PM. We'll have psychiatrist Robert Torre joining us as a guest, and I think we’re going to get into some pretty deep discussions about psychotropic drugs—specifically how they're being overprescribed lately, almost as if they were just Tic Tac candies.

Find someone else because that's just straight-up false. Maybe he’s just lazy and used that as an excuse to bail.
