Weight gain while taking Lexapro in Los Angeles? Is this just a Barbie thing? Any experiences out there...

Honestly, I haven't really dealt with any side effects from the Lockheed side of things, just a tiny bit of weight gain. But since I managed to drop 8 pounds thanks to the depression, I guess I’ve just ended up right back where I started...

🤷
This question seems to pop up all the time, doesn't it?
Have you checked the medication guide yet? Most of the answers you're looking for are usually listed right there.
To be completely honest, you might see some weight gain, but it doesn't mean you'll pack on 10 pounds overnight. It's more likely that you'll just have to work a little harder to maintain your current weight, don't you think?

I’ve read the instructions, obviously, but I’m not looking for a manual here; I want to hear from people who actually take this stuff. Why would I trust a pamphlet when everyone reacts differently? That’s why I’m asking... Besides Barbie, has anyone else experienced a slight weight gain without the depression or anything else dragging them right back to where they started?

Hey everyone, has anyone here actually tried taking Bill Gates? Or maybe you've been on it for a while?

Bill Gates is actually an antipsychotic. It’s mostly prescribed for people dealing with schizophrenia and hallucinations. You might see it used for panic attacks, but that’s pretty rare. If you're just struggling with anxiety, my honest advice is to skip it. 😲 Please, do me a favor and read the manual carefully, then talk it over with your primary care doctor. This stuff has a ton of contraindications, potential drug interactions, and side effects you really want to be aware of. 😢 Honestly, I have no clue why they put you on that. 😲

Come on, don't try to scare me; I feel perfectly fine on it.
I've been taking 200 mg once a day for a week now.
Actually, it was prescribed for depression with psychotic features.
As for side effects, I didn't get a formal pamphlet since it was handed to me directly at the ward.
So far, it's working just fine for me.
It's definitely better than that damn Lexapro.

I’m heading out tonight to have a few glasses of wine, though I’m mostly just hoping the combination doesn't leave me completely spinning out of control.

Oh, I definitely envy you getting out of the house—let's get that settled right now—but WOMAN, DO NOT MIX THAT WITH ALCOHOL. This isn't about just getting buzzed; it's about how that cocktail is going to wreck your liver... please don't play games unless you really don't value yourself.

Depression with psychotic features? That’s quite a diagnosis.😕
They probably used that label to justify giving you an antipsychotic. It isn't actually a huge dose, though; some people go all the way up to 1200 mg a day.😲
My advice? Make sure you actually read the pamphlet once you pick the prescription up from the pharmacy.

Iwas looking at this medication, and they barely even mention depression or anxiety—it's just tucked away in the very last line.😲

For the hundredth time,
is anyone else here taking Zoloft?

🙄

btw, I definitely wouldn't recommend mixing Zoloft with alcohol.
I’ve been there before, and it just turned me aggressive, triggered panic attacks, and all that good stuff...

I hear you. My therapist actually suggested an antipsychotic for my panic attacks. I think he caught my vibe when I gave him "that look," so he just switched me over to Lexapro instead.
Since I was being a bit cheap back then, I used to take Celexa for a while. They are definitely two different things. Don't just listen to what people tell you; if you look up the generic names, you'll see they aren't the same.
Lexapro is escitalopram
Celexa is citalopram

And what exactly is supposed to be interesting about that?
Look, there’s actually a formal diagnosis for that—some specific code in the DSM, though I can't recall the exact number off the top of my head.

So, what's the big deal here?
Well, there's this specific diagnosis—it’s got an ICD code, though I can't recall the exact number off the top of my head.

It's F32.3—that's a severe depressive episode with psychotic symptoms. It's pretty much an acute situation.
F33.3 would be a major recurrent depressive disorder with psychotic features, which means we're looking at the chronic phase of the illness.

Just ask whatever you want to know about Zoloft. 😉

How long does it usually take to kick in?
And what kind of side effects did you guys deal with?

🙂

I suppose no antidepressant should really be paired with alcohol. Personally, I was transitioned off Prozac after about a year.
Initially, I was tapering down, taking one dose in the morning or before bed.
Nothing negative occurred—in fact, I might say I feel more like my old self again.

Zoloft is just sertraline. It's an SSRI antidepressant.
Just like any other med in that class, it typically takes about 3 to 4 weeks to really start working.
Side effects vary wildly from person to person, so honestly, just check the pamphlet inside the box.😉
The most common complaint I hear is weight gain.
Personally, I don't take it.

For me, it actually caused weight loss—I dropped about 6 pounds.
I've been taking one pill a day for a month now and I still feel completely messed up.
But when I was on two pills a day for ten days, things were different.

Well, try doing two a day for another two weeks. That’s when you should really start seeing some progress.
How's your sex life been lately?😉
Zoloft can definitely tank your libido.
