Jeffrey Cook55, you aren't the first person this has happened to.
I know plenty of couples who ended up getting married because of an unplanned pregnancy, and honestly, they're all happy little families now. They've got great parents too.😍
If you are pregnant, everything is going to be fine. Just stay positive!!
I actually had a pretty similar experience with a pregnancy test last year. The test showed this super, super faint plus sign. I went down to the lab for a urine sample and it came back positive. Then, just a few days later, I started bleeding because it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy.
It feels kind of stupid of me to even bring this up because I really don't want to freak you out or make things worse, but maybe it's better to be prepared... That's why I mentioned seeing you dealing with that nausea in the middle of the night.
I'm thinking about you and I'm really hoping everything works out (whether there's a baby or not). Sending you so much 😘

Thanks so much, Mark. You really helped me feel a bit better for a moment there. 🙂
It’s one of those weird situations where you feel like you know everything, yet you actually know absolutely nothing at all.
The paranoia is getting to me. It feels like I’m suddenly seeing pregnant women everywhere: on TV, in magazines, walking down the street, even in government buildings.... 😁
Yesterday, when my boyfriend and I were getting out of the car and heading toward our apartment so I could take a test, this young family walked right past us with the cutest little girl. It felt like some kind of omen...
I guess I won't know for sure until I have total certainty.

Jeffrey Cook55 said:Here’s what happened:
I went out with my boyfriend yesterday to grab a test—we got an Intim Plus—and I took it around 6 PM. I actually bought another one and took it this morning, but I am so confused. For a positive result, there should be a vertical line, but mine shows up so faintly that I can barely even see it. The instructions say it doesn't matter if one line is darker than the other, and they show three different examples. Mine looks most like the one where the vertical line is weaker than the horizontal one. Looking at the explanation for that specific image, I’ll quote it: "Image C—this also indicates a 'pregnancy' result. If there is a vertical blue line in the oval window, and a '-' sign appears in the square window within 10 minutes of performing the test, the result is 'infertility'." I am just a mess right now. Has anyone else had something like this happen?

I’m going to buy one more test and try again in three days.

Honestly, I was crying yesterday when I saw it. This wasn't planned. Afterwards, I found myself laughing and crying at the exact same time. The problem is I have no idea how we are going to manage all of this. I live with my parents, I'm 25, almost done with college, but I don't have a job yet. My boyfriend works, but his job is the kind where he could get laid off at any moment. Plus, my parents are pretty authoritative, and I have no clue how to tell them. Right now, I'm just stressing over how to drop the news (once I'm certain) without shocking them—even though avoiding that seems impossible.

Abortion isn't even an option for me; I couldn't do it, and it's not that the baby wouldn't be wanted, but I am terrified if this is true because I don't know how we'll cope. My boyfriend is being supportive, even though he's a little scared too, but he’s definitely the calmer one in all of this. Aside from the pregnant woman falling apart here, everyone else seems relatively composed. 😬
One minute I'm fine, the next I'm sobbing.

Has anyone ever been in a situation like this? I really need some advice, a positive comment, or just anything...🙂

From what I remember, a vertical line needs to appear in the oval window to show the test worked correctly; then, in the square window, you get a minus sign if it's not pregnancy, or a plus if it is (if yours was a plus, congratulations).

In my case, the horizontal line (-) was super faint and the vertical one (|) was darker—but even if that vertical one is hard to see, it means the HCG hormone was detected and you are pregnant. If the square window only shows a minus, then you aren't. I have a photo of my test on my phone, so I'll try to upload it so you can see.

Anyway, if you are pregnant, don't fear your parents or anyone else. What matters is that you and your boyfriend love each other and want this baby; eventually, everything will work out okay. Parents tend to overreact because they worry about their kids, but this will be something beautiful in their lives too (they might just need some time to process it).

Don't give up; we are here if you need anything. Have faith in yourself. Everything in life eventually finds its way and settles into place. 😘

You're pregnant!
Mine looked exactly like that—just a tiny, faint little plus sign.
If you wait a bit longer to test again, the line will definitely show up darker.
Mark is actually quite a rare case. Honestly, those early stages can be a bit unpredictable, which is probably why your doctor won't give you the full "all clear" until week 6 or 7 once they can hear the heartbeat. Just try not to overthink it—assume you're pregnant and everything is going perfectly fine.

Deep breaths! You’re dealing with massive hormone surges right now, especially since you were actually planning this—so imagine how much more intense it is when it’s a surprise! It is totally normal if you feel like you're on an emotional rollercoaster. It's honestly wonderful that your boyfriend is being so supportive; that makes such a huge difference. At the end of the day, this is your baby too.
And as for the parents? Well, they'll be themselves—they might be a little shocked at first, but then they'll be absolutely thrilled about the new grandbaby. 🙂

Mine looked just like that—just a tiny, faint little line.
If you test again a bit later, the color should be way stronger.
Mark is actually pretty rare. Though, I guess those early stages aren't always super stable, which is probably why your OB/GYN won't say everything is totally fine until week 6 or 7 when they hear the heartbeat. Just try not to overthink it... just assume you're pregnant and everything is going to be fine.

Deep down, even people who planned this are dealing with crazy hormone surges, so an unplanned one? It’s bound to be a rollercoaster. It’s totally normal if you're feeling all over the place emotionally. Honestly, it's great your boyfriend is there for you; that matters so much. At the end of the day, it's your baby too.
And parents? They'll be parents. They might be shocked at first, but then they'll be thrilled about having grandkids. 🙂

I second everything said here!
Jeffrey Cook55, just try not to stress too much.😘

Thanks, Benjamin Nelson8. My vertical line (I) is way fainter than your horizontal one.

Guys, thank you all so much. I’m feeling a little bit better now. 🙂 Even so, it still feels surreal—like I’m stuck in a dream or like this is happening to someone else entirely...

Sometimes I think about how I still feel like a kid inside, but then again, I guess you can never truly be 100% ready for stuff like this anyway.

I'll check back in with everyone in a few days once I'm certain, though by all accounts, I am pregnant.

Hey everyone, sending out some good vibes to you all... this is actually my first time posting on this subforum! 🎉

I'd really love to get your take on something...
1. My last period was on August 25th... and since then, nothing. (My cycles have been super regular over the past year, though about four months ago I had one that was late by three weeks). Usually, my PMS symptoms start kicking in about two weeks before my period arrives. That’s exactly what happened last month too... cramping in my lower abdomen, mood swings, being extra hungry... and then it passed... then it came back... then it passed again. Just two days ago, I honestly thought my period was finally coming because my ovaries were aching so much, but still nothing... I've been running to the restroom constantly, but that happens during my PMS too, so I'm not sure how much weight to give that. Then today, I felt incredibly dizzy all morning. Could this just be standard PMS, or am I pregnant?

thanks...
ps. sorry if a question like this or something similar has already been asked!!!

Jeffrey Cook55, I went through the exact same thing—though, in my case, I was already married. It was all so sudden and completely unplanned; when I saw those two lines, I honestly broke down crying like a little kid. Looking back, I can’t even wrap my head around why I reacted that way—I think I was just absolutely terrified. But here’s the most important part: as long as you both want this baby and have each other's backs, you're going to be okay. Your circle will eventually adjust to the news. It’s perfectly normal to feel scared—this is a massive life shift! Honestly, I don't think anyone ever feels truly "ready" for this. You’ll figure out the rest as you go—your support system, especially your family, will step up, but most importantly, you already have the one thing that matters most: each other.
My doctor wouldn't even see me until the seven-week mark because, let's face it, home tests are reliable enough, and there isn't much else a doctor can actually do or see before then anyway. Just stay brave—you’ll soon realize what a beautiful chapter of life this is. Huge congratulations, and please keep us posted! 😘

Based on those symptoms—honestly, if I were you—I’d say there’s a good chance you might be pregnant. You should probably head over to a CVS or Walgreens, grab a home test, and just see what happens 😁 Let us know how it goes!

I mean, I'm leaning towards thinking you might be pregnant too, but maybe just grab a test and let us know what happens!😘

Just a quick heads-up—if Hannah Morales4 happens to be pregnant, you really have to watch out for the risk of barley rot! 😉

Ksenia, look—you’re pregnant. There is zero need to keep running tests just to prove it! Even my line was barely visible at first. A test isn't going to magically tell you that you're expecting if you aren't actually pregnant. That line showed up because those pregnancy hormones are present in your system.

I didn't exactly have a master plan for my own pregnancy either, much like how Andrew Thomas10 handled things, but honestly? I couldn't be happier about becoming a mom again soon. I know everything probably feels surreal and overwhelming right now—it's a total whirlwind—but that feeling eventually settles down. Besides, I think you two are more than mature enough to handle parenthood. Good luck!

Susan, you said it yourself: you’re 25, your guy is crazy about you, and you both want a baby...
you’re all confused 😉 you’re terrified 😉 you have no clue what comes next 😉
we didn't have a clue either—but look at us now: we've got the full-blown baby bumps, we're happily wandering through Target, and honestly, we can't wait to meet the little ones 😍

Alex, is there any way to automate this? Like, can we just set up a trigger so that "GO BUY A TEST!" pops up automatically whenever a thread hits certain keywords—you know, stuff like "is it," "cold symptoms," "PMS," or "nausea and hunger"?

😬

If you’re seeing a vertical line, no matter how faint it looks, you're pregnant.

MM, we’re both 23, and even though we’ve been married for a year and were actually planning for a baby, we were still totally caught off guard—scared, overwhelmed, and obviously overjoyed all at once. Honestly, nobody can tell you exactly how life is about to change.

The only thing that truly matters is that you want this little one; everything else will just fall into place eventually.
And hey, we’re right here if you need anything at all.

Susan, I honestly got a little choked up reading your post, because even though I’ve mentioned before that I don't really "fit in" here and I definitely don't have the same level of experience as all the other moms and pregnant ladies on this board, I just felt like I had to say something. At the end of the day, no matter how tough a parent tries to act, everyone eventually gets soft when it comes to stuff like this, and the most important thing is that you've got your man by your side giving you that support... maybe this wasn't exactly how you envisioned things playing out, but it is what it is, and I'm pretty sure that in a month or two you'll be riding that hormonal rollercoaster 😘 (just like everyone else on this forum) and everything will eventually settle into place... 😘

Ugh, honestly guys, I just feel this overwhelming need for someone to hold my hand and guide me through this.

I was walking downtown today and every five minutes I found myself tearing up. I kept telling myself to just calm down, but it’s been such a struggle. On top of that, I've been feeling physically terrible—I can't tell if it's just pure anxiety or if it's actually part of the pregnancy.

I really should be studying for my final exam, but my brain is just mush. I can't even focus on looking at my notes, let alone reading them. My boyfriend suggested I just power through it now so I can get that degree out of the way, since things will only get harder later on.
And then there's the job situation. A friend called me three days ago offering me a position at his firm starting in about six weeks, and I was so excited about it. Now, everything feels so uncertain.
It's just... a lot.

But look, I don't want to be totally pessimistic. I've been debating whether to wait a little longer before telling my parents. My boyfriend asked if he should be there when I break the news, and my gut reaction was "no." I told him he didn't need to be there, that I'd rather handle it myself so he doesn't have to witness their shock. But now I'm second-guessing that. What do you all think? Should he be by my side or not? I know, at the end of the day, it's my call, but I'm still weighing it out...

One more thing—since I am completely clueless regarding > and how a baby develops 😬, I was thinking about picking up a book on the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or is there something similar discussed here on the forum?

Anyway, thank you all so much. Even though I've ended up crying a few times reading your replies, it has honestly made me feel a little lighter. I'm really glad I reached out here. Sending big hugs to everyone.😘
