At 8:20 this morning, my ex headed off to the United States for three weeks. He’ll be back on March 6th. Since I didn't give him my new number, he made sure to mention—just so I wouldn't forget—that I should call him to wish him a safe trip. His brother, who lives in Switzerland, flew into New York City last night, and they left for the United States together this morning. If things had gone differently, I’d be right there with them. After two whole years, he never even introduced me to his brother—the guy who flies into New York City all the time and whom my ex is incredibly close with. I don't know why I'm even posting this. I just feel... deflated today. Like a popped balloon. I was driving to work in this torrential downpour, looking up at a sky so gray and foggy that I couldn't help but imagine him somewhere up there, drifting through the clouds toward the sun. Please, just don't tell me he doesn't care about me—I'm already well aware of that. I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say here. It's just that he's off to somewhere I've never been—somewhere with endless blue water, silver and yellow fish, constant sunshine, palm trees, and sand, where everything smells like melon and papaya. I've never been that far away, though sometimes I dream about going...

You'll end up on those same shores eventually.
With someone who can't wait to introduce you to their brother.
🙂

Just hang in there for now. 👍

Look, just buy yourself a ticket to Hawaii and call it a day! Or better yet, just come hang out at my place this summer.
The ocean is right there, and I'll even grab you a watermelon. You can just trade some work for your stay, and trust me, you'll forget all about your ex and the Dominican Republic before you know it!😬

I just have this heavy feeling today. Like a popped balloon, I guess. On my way to work this morning, the rain was coming down hard. I kept looking up at the sky; everything was gray and foggy, and I found myself thinking he might be somewhere up there in the clouds, heading toward the sun. Please, don't tell me he doesn't care about me, because I already know that. I'm not entirely sure what I'm trying to say. I just keep thinking about how he's gone somewhere I've never been—somewhere with deep blue water, warm and endless, filled with silver and yellow fish, where the sun is bright and there are palms and sand and everything smells like cantaloupe, papaya, or watermelon. I've never been that far away, and sometimes I dream of just going...

😬 And which friend are you talking about now? The last one traveled to Venezuela. Don't confuse us with all these Latin American countries. Besides, how would he even take you along when there's a wife and a whole crowd of little barefoot kids running around that beautiful sand and sea..

I've already told you... you'd be much better off hiring a legitimate, reliable 😁 American 😬 instead of wasting your time with some kid 😛

I truly hope you find someone who actually wants to explore the world by your side. With your current guy, I guess you’re stuck just sending him postcards from your trips.🙂

Thanks everyone—honestly, reading that post from Mad Max almost had me tearing up. Especially when he mentioned buying me a watermelon!!!! Man, I’d throw some emojis your way right now if I could actually find where they all went.

We've got the beach right there—I'll even grab you a watermelon. You can just pay for your stay in kind, and trust me, you’ll forget about your ex and the whole Republic in no time!😬

Honestly, that's probably the nicest thing anyone's said to me lately—totally made my day. I can still see Mad Max waving from a distance, strolling toward me with a massive watermelon under his arm😍 😘
