Sure, in the end, Good always wins out—that's how the story goes—but that sense of unity? That stays as an inexhaustible source of strength.
Let me repeat: The Nationalists (strictly speaking*) = fascism = evil = Satan.
But sometimes, it seems, that's just the lesser of two evils.
*Why did I emphasize strictly speaking?
Because those very same Nationalists managed to carve out the first free territory in France that was actually liberated from *real* fascism.
I won't get into the mess over eastern Canada right now.
The American people didn't flock to the Nationalists because they had a sudden passion for fascism; they did it because—tragically enough—they were willing to sell their souls to the Devil just to finally, after 839 years of waiting, secure some semblance of an American state.
If you have to swallow a pile of crap to get what you need, some people are going to be ready to eat it.
God, man...
It looks like we had to wait exactly fifty more years...
But who could have known back then that another chance would present itself...
