Honestly, when you all start talking about elderly folks who are obsessed with stroke recovery, I feel like we really need a dedicated thread titled "How to Deal with Family Drama." I’m already tearing up just thinking about the planning stages. It’s always one thing after another—this person says this, that person demands that, and then there’s the husband insisting everything needs to be perfectly peaceful at home. But what are you supposed to do when they start crying? How do you even begin to handle that kind of emotional pressure?

It’s actually pretty straightforward, I guess—we just pay our own way and do things our own way.. 😁

It’s honestly quite a dilemma for me... because if everything were strictly according to my vision, we’d have nothing but classic rock playing, the menu would be completely different... and a wedding like that might appeal to me and perhaps twenty other guests. But out of a crowd of 220? That just won't cut it!
I simply can't approach it that way; I'm the one footing the bill, so things are going to happen exactly how I want them to... and frankly, I don't mind at all. If I actually cared about pleasing everyone else, I wouldn't be planning a wedding in the first place.
Besides, I personally prefer extra frosting on the cake—it's not like I'm acting against my own nature! 😁

Well, I mean, it’s not like I always get exactly what I want, either. If I actually had my way, I’d probably be planning a massive wedding right in the middle of a football stadium, and I guess Iron Maiden would be playing the setlist for the ceremony. Maybe that's a bit much, though! 🤣🤣🤣)
I think my cake absolutely needs to be at least three layers high—one classic vanilla layer for most people, one bright fruit layer just for my partner, and then one creamy cheesecake layer that’s all mine! I guess that's just how I found a way to make it perfectly "me" while still making sure everyone else is happy too. 😁😁😁

Well, I think I’ve officially given up on Vincek... we stopped by Sweet Secrets yesterday and honestly, hats off to them because 👍 their cookies are absolutely divine—we actually got a little batch to take home and sample... and oh my goodness, the variety of cakes they have is just unreal... simply stunning... The girl there told me all I have to do is show her a picture of the cake I want and they'll whip it right up for me 🙂. They even have two more orders lined up for my wedding day, though they're already swamped with work 👍

I’m definitely going to order my cake from them too... For the last few years, we’ve been getting all our birthday cakes from there, and not only do they look stunning, but they actually taste great, too. Definitely a solid choice!

What’s the damage for their cakes and pastries?

kg of cake is $30—and if you end up grabbing a whole cake too, we're looking at $27... though as for the cake itself, I haven't quite made up my mind yet... I still need to either find a photo of something specific or just go pick one out from their selection 🙂

Fine, thanks... but you don't even have a rough estimate for about 300 people?

I actually ordered a cake for 350 guests, so that's probably about right for a group of 300—it was huge!! 🙂

Mine ended up costing $933. At first, I thought it was a bit pricey, but once I started checking out some of the highly recommended spots I found here on the forum, I realized their prices were way higher. One place even quoted me $1500!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, I've had treats from Sweet Secret many times before, and they are seriously amazing! I won't get into the specific price breakdown 🙂

So, should I go with the buttercream or the whipped cream?

Oh man, I honestly have no idea. I just saw this cake at a local expo and on their website, and it was love at first sight. I basically walked up and said, "I want that one," and that was that. We'll probably nail down all the specifics regarding the decorations, colors, and flavors closer to the wedding date. My understanding is that they'll drop it off at the venue around midnight, and the staff there will set it all up so it looks exactly like the photo. 🙂

I’ve been reading some discussions here about fondant versus whipped cream, but to be honest, I don't quite grasp the technical side of it. From what I can gather, fondant makes it look prettier, while whipped cream might taste better? If that's the case, I think I'd lean toward the whipped cream because I'm sure it'll still look lovely, and since they're delivering it chilled, it should stay perfect!

Honestly, I don't care about how smooth the texture is... as long as there isn't an overkill of cream. That frosting was actually decent enough for me.

My batch of buttercream frosting used for exactly 150 cake slices $600! 🙂 If I recall correctly—and my memory isn't exactly perfect when I'm rushed—that was about what it cost

I guess you can always choose between using fondant or whipped cream if you prefer.

You can certainly make your choice, though if you ask me—and I think you should—this particular area feels a bit overpriced... 🙂

I'm thinking mine will probably land somewhere around $1,500 for 110 people, though I might end up chipping in even more than that... 🙂

Let’s be honest, we all know what goes into whipped cream...
buttercream is basically just powdered sugar and vegetable shortening... look, people can argue about taste all day long, but personally, I've always had a soft spot for whipped cream. Even if I have to admit that buttercream looks much more polished, I'll take the flavor of the cream any day! 😁
It's not about the outward appearance; it's about what you find on the inside! 😂
