It’s mostly just tradition, I guess; I haven't really seen it done any other way anywhere else

Back at our place, the cookies were already laid out on the tables before the guests even walked through the door. Coffee was served twice, though anyone who wanted more could just head over to the counter whenever they felt like it.

At an American wedding I went to, they had this whole dessert spread on its own table—you could just help yourself whenever you wanted. If there wasn't anything left, I’d either go hunting for more or just wander straight into the kitchen to grab some myself.😁

That’s actually how Americans do it too... they have these big sweet tables loaded with cakes, cookies, candies, and chocolates... everyone just helps themselves whenever the craving hits.

well, that’s exactly how it’s going to go here too... 😍 personally, I need to have those sweets within my line of sight at all times 😁 😁 😁 everything else is practically irrelevant... 😁

Which one of you foodies is actually going to eat all this? 😬
I think I follow what you guys are getting at, but honestly, I just don't see the logic in it! I mean, if you’ve already got the table set with decorations, drinks, and the main course everyone is busy eating, why on earth would you cram even more sweets in there (even if they are on their own separate little dessert table)? I guess it's just wild to me that someone would feel the need to wolf down a whole dessert right between the soup and the roast—metaphorically speaking, of course—and I really can't wrap my head around where you'd even fit them in if you're already serving an appetizer!

People have just been conditioned this way... I honestly can't think of any other explanation.

I’ll be at my own dedicated table—honestly, it would feel just a bit ridiculous to have cookies sitting there alongside the decor, the craft beer, and all the other savory fare... though, if I’m being perfectly honest, I’ve always had a weakness for sweets... before lunch, after lunch, right after the main course, and even before dessert... and when it comes to dessert itself, 😁 anything goes 😍

As soon as I step into the hall, I head straight for the dessert table—I really prefer having them right there in front of me, rather than tucked away on some side table where everyone can gossip about how many trips I’m making for a little sugar... 😬

once, at one wedding, it was set up that way, so I just nudged my friends to go grab theirs first 🤣

Honestly, it seems to depend entirely on where you are... I’ve been to two different weddings in California, and in both cases, they didn't even bring out the sweets until after the main course was totally finished—so, like, around 9 PM
For me, that is way too late for anything sweet, and frankly, it’s just a bit disappointing 🤷

Yeah, in California (most of the time), dessert comes out right along with the cake at the very end. I haven't finalized the details yet, but I know they'll be flexible regardless of what I decide.

I mean, honestly, in my experience here in the States, everything usually wraps up by midnight, or maybe even one in the morning at the very latest.

Alright ladies, please don't come for me, but I’ve officially insisted on stripping all those little bite-sized desserts from the menu... we're sticking strictly to the wedding cake...
I honestly can't remember the last time I actually ate a dessert at a wedding, and when you consider the sheer mountain of food and the cake itself, those tiny little pastries just feel redundant to me, quite frankly... they seem totally unnecessary😁
My fiancé was actually totally on board with cutting the sweets, and he even suggested we swap them out for some fancy hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour instead.😉

Edward Lopez21, good idea. I doubt anyone's going to be craving cookies that day, what with all that food and the wedding cake.

Honestly, my family would probably stage a full-on protest if I even suggested bringing out cookies 🤣 In our house, we always stick to a proper dessert right after dinner.

Personally, I find it absolutely unthinkable to host a wedding without a proper dessert spread. 🤣
My family and I are massive sweet tooth enthusiasts—honestly, we’re obsessed. We actually went out just last week to get everything ordered. We picked out 30 different varieties, getting two or three servings of each kind 🙂 which brings us to roughly 4,500 individual pastries for about 80 guests in the hall. That way, there's plenty to send home with people, share with colleagues at the office, or drop off for the neighbors (and I sincerely hope there's enough 😉).

The desserts will be set out on the main table right away, but I’m also planning to set up a dedicated sweet and fruit station near the entrance after the cocktail hour. That way, if anyone is hunting for one specific type of pastry, they can just head over and help themselves. 🤣

Honestly, I’d probably disown myself if there weren't any sweets at the reception.🤣 😁

My partner actually had this brilliant idea—brilliant, in his eyes—to just skip the cookies and pastries altogether because, well, who really cares about that? And look, I get it—you don't need to serve fifty pounds of sugar—but there's a point to having them... with a crowd that size attending the wedding, you know there are going to be people who absolutely require their sugar fix, or perhaps they just won't care for the cake, or maybe they simply prefer a variety of treats over one single slice of cake...🤷

🤣😂

Honestly, people talk so much about this stuff! I don't think I've even eaten fifty desserts in my entire life... so they really don't mean much to me at all. And honestly, given everything else we had going on that evening, we didn't actually need them... I just find it a bit tacky having sweets sitting on the table when there's already meat and soup right there... plus, you generally know when it's time for dessert and when it's time for a real meal😂
So we ended up cutting them out, and somehow nobody seems to get what I'm saying... hellooo? Since John Doe is part of our group, there's always supposed to be at least one dessert sent over every single day🤣

I can't even picture a wedding without a massive dessert spread.... 🙂
Me too, I'm always hitting up the dessert table at weddings... 😍

Cake Dilemma 😍

Okay, I am spiraling here... should the wedding cake have actual fresh roses or should we go with marzipan flowers? 😢 It’s going to be one of those tiered cakes where all the layers are stacked, and there’ll be this massive "waterfall" of roses cascading down the side... no tacky little wedding toppers or extra junk, just the flowers. 👍

Help a girl out, ladies, because I am seriously freaking out!! 😁

Fresh flowers, without question... they have a level of sophistication that marzipan flowers just can't touch visually. I actually intended to have live orchids on my cake—no toppers, no edible spray, just natural beauty—but a breakdown in communication left me with marzipan orchids instead 😢. Honestly, the only reason it wasn't a total disaster was because the cake itself tasted incredible and nobody bothered poking around with edible sprays, otherwise 🙂
