I feel like I should probably warn anyone currently planning a wedding about the questionable quality of the treats from that small town in rural US bakery near Annapolis. I really wanted to trust them since I only needed a cake, but the pastries they gave me for a tasting were just awful—they tasted stale and were way overbaked... So, I ended up canceling at the very last minute, which the lady didn't even protest; in fact, she acted like she had never seen me before in her life. They truly let me down...

I actually picked mine up on eBay—it showed up at my door in just four days. Now I’m having a bit of trouble finding other sellers, though. If you're looking, try searching eBay for "cake topper heart."

I’m sorry, Daniel Smith8...
We actually used to get our cakes from a small town in rural US—and honestly, they were absolutely incredible.

Back when we used to host weddings, we’d just order individual plates of pastries for each table $40 each plate wasn't overflowing with pounds of sweets, but they were so incredibly delicious that I didn't mind the price tag one bit.
The cake was $833 though I actually had to go out and provide my own decorations, like fresh roses. Honestly, the flavor was pretty mediocre, so barely a quarter of it even got eaten.
If I had known then what I know now....

Hey everyone... I've been scrolling through this thread, but most of the posts mention places outside of the city...
Can anyone point me toward some good, affordable bakeries right here in the city? Where should I go??
Looking for any recommendations... thanks!! 🙂

Look, it’s just how it goes—living in a major hub like NYC is expensive, and people aren't crazy for looking outside the city limits to save a buck.
I mean, "cheap" is always relative, right? Honestly, if you don't feel like driving around the suburbs, your best bet is just to hit up a trade show—that way, everyone comes to you.

Edward Mendoza3 said:Anyone here tried Babić sweets? I’m looking for some honest feedback—what’s the consensus on their quality versus price when it comes to pastries and wedding cakes?

I hope I'm not too late to weigh in here. 🙂 We actually used them for our wedding, and honestly, we were flooded with compliments. Guests kept telling us they hadn't had dessert that good at a wedding in ages, and we even had people asking for their contact info afterward. 😉

We didn't go with their wedding cake—we just picked up some treats and a cake from them for a different occasion once—and while the pastries were incredible again, the cake itself was... well, a letdown. It was supposed to be a chocolate mousse cake, but it was nowhere near a real mousse. It wasn't even close to a decent parfait:cry

So, if you ask me, I’d give them a huge thumbs up for the pastries; they’re delicious and the presentation is always so sharp and neat. But as for the cake? Maybe skip it. 😢

Alright, so we've been testing out different pastries over the last few days...

Monika Sesv's Bakery in Annapolis — the pieces were cut a bit too large, I guess. They smell like actual pastries, though, and they're really tasty.
Andrić's Sweets — the cuts were okay, smells good, but the flavor is just... one-note. It’s like everything tastes exactly the same.
Šimić's Sweets — the shapes are perfectly cut, smaller pieces, but there isn't much of an aroma. The taste is fine, I suppose, but nothing really stands out from the rest.
Tom's Cake Shop — these were cut perfectly, smaller bites, look great, and they have that classic pastry scent. You can actually tell there's variety here; the flavors are excellent, and every single one is distinct, which is exactly how it should be.

In the end, we went with Tom's Cake Shop. When it came to the cake, they were the only ones who actually took the time to explain the process to me. We worked out all the details smoothly...

Wait, is this Monica from Ann Arbor the same one from the small town out in the Midwest? I feel like all I ever hear about her is how amazing she is—though, to be fair, I haven't actually tried any of her baked goods yet. And honestly, if I had the choice, I’d much rather have cupcakes instead of cake... assuming she even does those, I guess.

It’s not the same Monica... though I’ve been hearing whispers that she from Ann Arbor has changed a bit lately. Some girls were saying she can be pretty arrogant and difficult to deal with, honestly. I don't know, maybe you should scroll back through the thread,
I was actually looking for some pastries, but they’re way too pricey at about $8.25/each. As for cupcakes, I’m not so sure; it seems like every single bakery has them featured on their websites,
Just find some contact info and send me a photo so we can see what people think, or better yet, just grab a picture and go visit a few places in person to get a feel for them...

I definitely need to swing by each one in person to check them out—but I guess I've still got plenty of time before I have to deal with that.🙂

Maybe it’s better to skip talking to Monica directly and just deal with the staff at 😁
. As for those cakes—they're better than ever. My husband picked up five different kinds the other day, and we absolutely demolished them 😁.

The only thing I’ve actually tried from there is the chocolate orange cake—and honestly, it was killer. I haven't gotten around to testing out any of their wedding cakes yet, but seeing all the rave reviews, I'm thinking it's probably worth a look...

I can’t recommend Ty and Anna enough... I’ve worked with them before, so I know firsthand that their treats are the real deal—no weird additives or fillers, just pure ingredients like eggs, flour, and chocolate...

They also absolutely nail the cake design, so they have my full endorsement 😁

Can we just show up and sample some of the cookies?🤔

Do I need to call ahead and order, or can we just swing by and ask to try whatever you've got on the menu?😁 How does it work?

Well, we actually gave them a call and explained that we were planning a wedding and were looking for the perfect desserts, so we asked if we could stop in to taste their selection if that wasn't too much trouble. The lady there told us we could come right away, so we headed over, and she was kind enough to put together that special wedding tasting sampler for us—we even got to take some home!

Help me out, please!

Does anyone know where I can pick up those little fountain sprayers for a wedding cake here in Washington, D.C.?
