I was at this wedding at the Plaza where they had a killer dessert station. All the little treats were served on ice sculptures and they were seriously gourmet.

(and I swear even in the dead of winter those ballrooms are sweltering, doesn't matter what the weather is like outside)

Nathan Gomez8 said:I am quite interested in setting up a dedicated dessert station. Based on your own experiences, would you recommend arranging it before dinner service begins, or waiting until after the main course has been served? I find the idea of having it ready from the start appealing, yet I have some concerns regarding how the creams and other delicate components might hold up if left out on the table for several hours. The wedding is scheduled for November, so we won't be dealing with summer heat, but I still want to be cautious.

I made an arrangement with my aunt, who runs a local bakery, to do a three-tier cake. The bottom tier will be real—chocolate—but the other two tiers are just decoys made of styrofoam. She’s going to decorate them so they look exactly like the real thing, because she pointed out that actual cakes are incredibly heavy. We are planning to have six different types of cake sliced up from those fake tiers and placed on the dessert table. However, we agreed that the servers should handle the slicing when it's officially time for cake. Once the slices are handed out to the guests, the rest of the cake should be put straight back into the fridge. There is simply no reason to let it sit out and get messy in the middle of the hall. My aunt actually mentioned that quite a few couples leave everything out, and then you end up with kids digging through the leftovers. Basically, my plan is that once the cake is served and the final slice is handed out, everything gets moved to cold storage immediately.

I’m at a wedding right now snacking on pastries from Dulcia, and honestly, the three-chocolate cake was incredible. They’ve even been featured on NBC.
The treats are top-tier—easily the best wedding sweets I’ve ever had, and I’m not even much of a dessert person. I’d guess the weight was around $37, and the cake for 100 guests went for 1300.

Hey, can anyone recommend a good dessert shop in San Francisco or the surrounding area?

I recently attended a wedding at the Plaza, and I have to say, their dessert table was nothing short of spectacular. They had these exquisite little treats served on actual ice sculptures—it was such a sophisticated touch, and honestly, quite a refreshing departure from the usual buffet setup. Everything tasted absolutely divine.

I honestly get the feeling that even in the dead of winter, those deli slicers run hot enough to make you sweat—it doesn't matter how freezing it is outside, the heat inside those machines is relentless.

I can't help but feel the exact same way; it feels like the heat is constant, though I suspect it’s mostly just because of how crowded everything gets.😁

Mus Bakery near Ribnik (Columbus - Ozalj area)
Seriously amazing little pastries and some killer cakes.
The lady running the place is incredibly sweet and super helpful too.
I picked some up for my sister’s Bar Mitzvah, and honestly, everyone was obsessed.
$22 lbs.
Cake - $3.25 per person. 👍 👍

Check out this cake I made! 🙂
The decorations were done by Marina Budimir, and the actual cake was baked by Vesna kolak from Lekenik.

Hahahaha, that cake looks incredible! 😁

Are you actually happy with those pastries from Columbus? Also, what did they end up costing you per pound?...

Honestly, Vesnin’s treats are hands down the best in my neck of the woods. I’d grabbed them so many times before the wedding that there wasn't even a question about it!
$27/lb. Anyway, $30

That cake looks incredible. If you don't mind, would you be able to drop a photo of the actual plate once it's served?

I think I’d definitely go for Aunt Vesnin's recipe too. 🙂

Ladies, what have your experiences been like with King's Bakery?

I attended a wedding this past Saturday, and honestly, the desserts were an absolute disaster. The peach pastries and the chocolate sponge cakes tasted identical. To make matters worse, the cake sponge was bone-dry, and the filling had zero flavor or aroma. It was quite disappointing. For my own wedding, I’ve decided to take a different approach: I'll be ordering the small pastries from a local baker I know, but for the cake, I'm going to a specific boutique bakery in town that I actually trust and visit regularly.

From Columbus?

Grabbed some cakes and pastries there a few times. They're solid.
The cakes look great and the sponge wasn't dry. Dry cake is usually my biggest pet peeve...

That cake looks pretty legit 🙂. Honestly, I’ve always thought Vesnin’s treats were top-tier too, but I decided against going with them for the wedding. We’re planning a bit of a larger bash, so looking at the price per pound $27—it just adds up fast when you need that much volume. Plus, everyone I talk to says people barely touch the cakes and desserts at these things anyway, so why bother... 🙂

I ended up making 26 pounds of dessert for 80 guests, and I still had about 6 pounds left over!
I didn't skimp at all on the music or the catering. But when it came to those little extra things that don't really matter? Yeah, I definitely saved some cash there.
My goal was to have the best food in town and some seriously delicious treats. I skipped the fancy crepe stations, the yard decorations, picking everything up from my place, and all that other fluff. Honestly, nobody even notices that stuff anyway!

I'm with you on that, 🙂. I have no interest in skimping on the things that actually matter either—I was just trying to point out that I found some great desserts that were a bit easier on the wallet.

I’m posting this here because we just wrapped up our wedding 😍 and honestly, the biggest headache during the whole planning process was the dessert situation. Look, it’s not like I’m being cheap—it’s just insane how much they charge for wedding cakes these days. You look at a cake for 150 people and you're staring down a bill for several thousand dollars?! 😲😲😲 Plus, half the time, those overpriced cakes don't even taste that good.
After digging through some forums, we stumbled upon this bakery called Danielle’s in Columbus. Word was their homemade treats were incredible and—get this—actually reasonably priced. It turned out to be one of the best calls we made. They handled the delivery from Columbus to Washington, D.C. without any issues whatsoever. The cake was so damn good that there wasn't a single slice left; people were literally going back for seconds! And the pastries? Real, authentic, homemade stuff. An absolute, definitive recommendation for anyone else dealing with this mess 👍👍👍
