I'm looking for something a bit larger and more elegant than the standard lettering.

Maybe check eBay? That’s my first stop for pretty much everything. 😁

The thing is, my wedding is only a month away, and I'm honestly a little worried about whether it would even arrive in time.

Jesse Perez4 said:I can vouch for that. I've mentioned it before—we picked up a cake and some pastries from Mus, and everything was gone in an instant. We barely had a pound of sweets left to bring back to the office. Everyone was raving about them; usually, I’m a skeptic when a crowd starts praising something, but this time, the evidence was undeniable. 🤣

Cienna was actually quite lovely!

Everyone has different tastes and experiences, and that's fine. 🙂

Some people will love certain pastries while others won't, which is totally normal since we aren't all the same. I was just reacting to a pretty obvious ad.

Whereabouts in Washington, D.C. did you find a good chocolate mousse from Curke??

I could use some help, I'm feeling pretty desperate 😵 I want to serve cupcakes at the wedding, but everyone I've asked so far is quoting $12-$5.00 per piece. I guess that's just ridiculous—way too much for a little bit of cake and frosting. Does anyone know someone in the Washington, D.C. area or nearby who offers more reasonable prices? Thanks in advance 😉

Anyone here actually tried the cakes from Sweet Cakes Lab? Is the quality any good?

Does anyone happen to know what the typical price per pound is for pastries over at Horak?

Hey, I really need some help here. My wedding is this April, and I’m still stuck deciding who to hire for the dessert table.
Since high-end catering is insanely expensive everywhere, I found a bakery run by Luciana in Newark. I’ve never actually had their stuff at a wedding before. One friend swears they're amazing, while another says they're total trash. Now I'm losing my mind trying to decide if I should pull the trigger or not. If you guys have tried them, let me know what you think. They’re definitely budget-friendly, though.
Also, if you know any other decent bakeries that won't break the bank, hit me with some recs.
The wedding is in Žeinc, so nothing too far out of the way.
Thanks! :* :*

One more thing. I’m planning on handing out cookies later, so where can I snag some small pastry boxes without getting ripped off? 🙂

Have you tried their pastries yet? You think they're actually any good?
The boxes are all over Target/Walmart/Amazon...

Why not just head over to the bakery and try the treats there in person? That’s definitely your safest bet. I’ve sampled their sweets before—not wedding cakes specifically, though—and they were actually really good.

We gave the pastries from Rose a shot, and honestly, they didn't really hit the mark for us. There's another bakery over in San Diego (Nautilus) that does fantastic cakes—we're actually heading there tomorrow to try their pastries (they go for about $23/lb)...

When it comes to desserts, we’re finding this to be the trickiest part of planning—mostly because we have this specific vision of having a dessert table rather than individual servings at every seat...

We also stopped by King Arthur Bakery and were pretty let down. While the sweets themselves were actually quite good, the service was incredibly unprofessional... We drove an hour just to get there because we had a prior arrangement, but the owner wasn't available, so the staff just handed us some samples. When we finally reached out to her to finalize everything and request a quote, we waited a week and a half. Since she wasn't returning our calls, my fiancé had to step in and call her himself; she finally responded saying she'd send the quote—then we waited *another* week and a half. He followed up again, and still nothing... Not even after we sent a message expressing how disappointed we were. She stayed silent until this week—a full month after she was supposed to send the proposal—when the quote finally landed in our inbox... It's such a shame, because we truly intended to book their cakes and pastries, but if they're this unreliable now, I'm terrified they won't even show up on the big day. There's just no way we can commit to them...

Hey, I need a recommendation for a bakery or pastry shop that does fake wedding cakes...🕺

We're looking at the area around the outskirts of Chicago, maybe stretching toward Indianapolis or Columbus—basically where those regions meet since our wedding is right in that middle ground.

We actually tried a cake from King’s Bakery—someone already mentioned them above. We liked their fruit cake and the idea of having a "real" tier for the cutting ceremony (just for us and the wedding party), while having pre-sliced pieces ready for the guests. Does anyone know of other high-quality bakeries that offer this kind of setup?

We'd go with King's, but honestly, they're a bit flaky when it comes to getting back to messages, plus the travel costs are adding up. So, I'm hunting for an alternative...
A slice there is pretty $4.50 so if anyone has suggestions for something more budget-friendly, that would be awesome! 👍

Thanks in advance 🙂

For any ladies living in the Chicago area, you seriously need to check out Meli cakes over in Tresnjevac. We didn't go through them for our wedding since I hadn't heard of them yet, but we did order a birthday cake from them. It was absolutely perfect. I have no clue what they charge for full-scale wedding cakes per slice, but if you're nearby, just go and try their stuff. (Our cake served 20 people and ran us $107, and a friend of mine ordered one for a rock concert crowd that cost $350). They also don't hold back on the frosting—their decorations are super rich. You can find them on Facebook at Meli cakes.
Highly recommended. 👍

The desserts were homemade since we held the reception at a local community center rather than a fancy restaurant. I actually ordered the cake from a bakery in a suburb of Chicago, but they completely failed to deliver it. A stroke of luck, however, was that the maid of honor ordered a surprise cake from a local shop in the suburbs, so we at least had something to cut. Since the cake was prepaid, I couldn't help but wonder if the girl just tossed the order in the trash or lost it instead of passing it to the kitchen. Just a few months ago, I heard that this same bakery pulled the exact same stunt with someone else and missed a delivery too. To be fair, they did refund the money after three days, but that doesn't exactly take the bitterness out of the experience.

The wedding is over, so now I’m sitting here sorting through my thoughts, weighing the wins against the fails.

One of the absolute highlights was the selection of pastries and the cake from Honey Corner in Jastrebarsko.
What Barbara does is top-tier. 🙏 The butter, the high-quality chocolate, the decorating—she even made these adorable little bride and groom figurines. Honestly, I’m at a loss for words to describe how happy both we and our guests were.
The feedback on the sweets was basically just that people hadn't tasted anything better in years. 😁

I negotiated the price $20 based on weight (with a bulk discount), and the cake came out to $4.00 per slice. The pastries were perfectly sliced and arranged, the cake arrived just before midnight perfectly chilled, and they even threw in some sprinkles for free. 😁
I don't say this lightly because I'm usually pretty picky about desserts, but I was genuinely thrilled. ☕

We almost went with Vincek from Dug Resa instead—they seemed amazing at the local fair, but when we ordered a few pounds to test them out, it was a total disaster. It was all pudding and margarine, and the peaches were soaked in some heavy syrup. To make matters worse, their communication was clumsy and confusing. When you consider those were meant to be the "samples," how can you trust them? 🙄
