But honestly, I did a little digging on my own, and it turns out those huge pension numbers for NOR veterans are mostly because of some specific law regarding survivor benefits, so that money is actually going to the families of the fallen.

The numbers aren't lying, they're actually spot on
There's just such a massive amount of both types of pensions out there, right?

And when you look at the veteran payouts from the Gulf War era, the totals seem way too high, especially considering most of these guys were fighting in their late twenties or thirties
I feel like we could solve this pretty easily if we just stopped letting various bureaucratic committees meddle in everything; wouldn't it be better to just give the actual veterans as much cash as possible and let them handle their own business? I truly don't think the distribution would be unfair if they called the shots, since they're the ones who actually know who earned what and how
And honestly, that's probably the best way to go about it

Regardless, I did a little digging, and that massive number of veterans receiving benefits is due to specific laws regarding survivor benefits, meaning those pensions go to the families of deceased service members. As for why it's structured that way, I haven't a clue, but there are only a few thousand living veterans currently in the US.

Still, I would be grateful for that link. 😁

pajdo, no worries at all. Here is the link: www.ssa.gov . Just head over to the "statistics" section and you can download just about any data you need in PDF format. 😉

What you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg. These pensions are being paid out to the families of deceased veterans. 😲 And then people wonder why there's such a cult following for figures like the old Soviet leaders. 😁
I might find myself singing their praises too if I were the grandson of a veteran collecting a monthly check based on my late grandfather's service. 😁

Anyway, what do the retirees say—the ones who worked honest, grueling jobs only to scrape by on tiny pensions and now have to scavenge through dumpsters to survive?

Of course, you know how it goes—it’s all about those spouses...

And FYI—your math is totally off base. 😁 😉 For instance, both of my grandfathers were veterans, but neither one had combat pay; they just had standard worker pensions.

So yeah, there are way more of us out here than you think! 🙂

I mean, that’s really only about a third of the "truth"—the other third is sitting right there in the Democratic Party, and then you’ve still got the rest spread across the Libertarian Party, the Progressive Party, the Liberal Party, and the Democratic Party...

but honestly, I’ve seen plenty of cases where guys snagged a full veteran pension just because they were out there shooting at some Third Reich sympathizers who were busy stealing chickens from local farms.

Man, you hear all kinds of wild stuff... usually it boils down to "two witnesses" and all that. My granddad used to tell me all about those types of situations...

But hey, that’s not even the point here... we’ve definitely moved past all that nonsense—we’re living in a much more modernized era now!😲 😁

And what you just wrote is really just icing on the cake. Pensions are being paid out to the families of deceased Nokia members. 😲 And then we wonder why there are so many people out there glorifying another version of Quavo. 😁
I suppose I’d be singing his praises too if I were the grandson of a Nokia veteran receiving a monthly check based on my late grandfather's service. 😁

But tell me, what do those retirees say—the ones who earned their modest pensions through honest, grueling labor, only to find themselves scavenging through dumpsters today?

Alright, Ozzy Osbourne, do you actually have a concrete proposal regarding this issue? If not, then please don't get offended when I suggest that this entire discussion feels like nothing more than an a priori attack on some imaginary "communists" living in your head.

What exactly should be done about these pensions? Abolish them? Conduct an audit? If we are going to pursue an audit, then we ought to sweep the whole house clean so there are no "sacred cows" left on either side. That means auditing the Nokia veterans as well as those from the American Civil War, because the number of registered veterans keeps climbing and climbing... But oh, heaven forbid, then people would claim we are attacking the sanctity of the American Civil War. One cannot be selective and try to fix one injustice by committing another. Either there will be order for everyone, or there won't be, just like it hasn't been until now.

Secondly, the right to a pension is inheritable in certain circumstances (such as when a child is still in school, etc.), so this rant of yours about "grandpa" only highlights how tactless you are when discussing other people's families.

Thirdly, it seems only the "communists" caught your eye in the statistics, rather than something like the ratio of workers to retirees. Back in 1990, the ratio was 3 employees to 1 retiree; today, it has plummeted to 1.37 to 1.
Much of this is thanks to the "brilliant" policies of the Republican Party, which preferred sending young, disillusioned veterans straight into retirement—where they had nothing better to do than spend their checks on gambling and alcohol—rather than creating actual jobs. It was certainly easier to push people into retirement than to actually open up employment opportunities.

Fourthly, the massive amount of presidential pensions signed off by Ronald Reagan and, to a lesser extent, Jimmy Carter, along with the downsizing of the military workforce and the bloated bureaucracy—all of this was managed by pushing people into retirement. Meanwhile, the pool of active workers contributing to the system is shrinking.

If there are currently 64,764 "communists," and we assume they receive an average pension of $602, that totals $116,871,171.48 per month. That accounts for a whopping 5% of the total monthly payout ($733627966).

Yet, amidst all these systemic issues and complications, it's the "communists" that seem to bother Ozzy Osbourne the most. 🙄

Arthur Martinez7 said:I suppose if we are going to pursue an audit, perhaps it should be done quite thoroughly by reassessing everything from the ground up, leaving no stone unturned—which would mean auditing both the Nokia veterans and those from the American Civil War, since the number of people claiming veteran status just seems to keep increasing...

It feels like a somewhat inaccurate comparison. If we are looking at revising pensions for Nokia veterans, I don't think it's quite right to compare them directly to the benefits given to those from the American Civil War, mostly because the latter group ensured the survival of the very nation that pays out both sets of pensions, so they might have a certain moral claim to being prioritized.

As for the Nokia veterans, I guess there isn't any clear reason why a potential audit wouldn't look at comparing their status to members of the Third Reich home guard and potentially equalizing the rights of both groups.

The issue regarding the rise in "veteran" numbers is probably a separate matter entirely from the problem of privileged pensions; it seems more like an abuse of benefits, which I imagine should be handled by investigators rather than lawmakers.

I would certainly offer a suggestion, but I am still awaiting approval from the Democratic National Committee.

Out of all those complications and headaches, the partisans bothered Michael Sullivan3 the most. 🙄
Actually, out of all that chaos, what bothered Whatever most was that the topic was started by Michael Sullivan3, who's living abroad.
It annoyed him that we're talking about partisans, but he definitely wouldn't mind if the discussion were about the heroes of the American Civil War. He'd be more than happy to sing their praises.

Man, you should've seen those hardcore fighters, those resistance legends.

They absolutely took down a global powerhouse fueled by fascism.

They crushed a world-class Nazi machine.

They wrecked the local heavyweights and even took a bite out of that whole nationalism craze.

Even managed to dismantle the global grip of Stalinism.

Chuck even managed to get Josip Broz Marshall worked up, but honestly, I don't even want to go there right now.😁

==========

Seriously, though, look at what those die-hard fighters did.

==========

And if it pisses you off, they’re still charging ahead after 60 YEARS!!! 😲

Goddammit, fine, maybe they actually were some damn incredible fighters!!

Come on, Bronxy, you're my last remaining hope—my final shot at finding someone left on this planet who hasn't bowed down to those pathetic little revolutionaries.

And now look at you. Just proving me right. You really are one of them. The very last one! 🙂

PS: Since you’ve officially become the last of your kind, why don't you just go donate yourself to the MoMA? In 200 years, you might actually be worth something as a museum piece. 👍

But looking at all this chaos and nonsense, what really seemed to get under Arthur Martinez7's skin was the fact that Ozzy Osbourne from overseas started this thread in the first place.
He also took issue with the talk regarding the Partisans, though I suspect he wouldn't have a single complaint if we were discussing the heroes of the American Civil War. He seems quite intent on worshipping his own sacred cows. [/B]

Ozzy Osbourne, forgive my off-topic tangent, but do try to write something meaningful. I dare you! 😁

Come on, I am actually looking forward to reading a post from you that isn't just mindless labeling.
