The fundamental objective here should be a pay-as-you-throw system, where your bill actually reflects the volume of waste you generate. Honestly, there isn't a more equitable or logical way to handle it.

it’s just not right that someone living in a tiny studio pays the same flat fee as someone in a massive mansion,
but hey, whatever. Clearly, there isn't a single ounce of social conscience or empathy left in this country.

So you’re suggesting we tax based on square footage while charging for trash based on how many bags someone buys? It doesn't quite track. Square footage doesn't generate waste, so why link the two? Besides, you see plenty of people struggling to make ends meet living in massive luxury apartments downtown.

granitefox16 said:Why should I care about the logistics? As a customer, all I care about is that the trash actually gets picked up on time. Whatever nonsense they did with the truck schedules wasn't my problem.

But this current mess is mental. I've got maggots crawling in my bin for ten damn days because nobody shows up. Paper pickup is skipped, recycling is skipped, everything is skipped.

I’m out here hauling heavy bins up and down the street like an idiot every other day. Back when the Whistleblower was in charge—despite all the shady deals and graft—I never felt this headache.

So now I’m supposed to celebrate all this:

- NYC "saving money" even though nothing is getting cheaper for me
- cutting parent leave benefits while my taxes stay exactly the same
- less frequent grass cutting while everyone still pays full price for utilities
- less frequent trash pickup despite my bills not dropping one cent
- fewer subway trains even though the fare isn't any lower

Can someone please explain why we were so hyped about changing the administration? Because as a citizen, I’m stuck with worse, slower, more inefficient service for the same—or higher—price.

Dammit, just bring back the Whistleblowers and let them steal... at least the service was better back then. 🤷

Just responding to that claim that there's never been a delay in trash pickup before.

I mean, probably 90% of our leaders, from local mayors to heads of state, haven't actually done anything anyway...

Since you seem to be struggling with the heat, I won't push you to explain those random terms that have nothing to do with the topic....

...well, look, you're entitled to your opinion—it is the 21st century after all.👍

...I haven't "missed" the subject; I checked twice 🤔 the thread, and the "crew" is still very much part of the title.

...I'll admit my way of speaking is a bit colorful—that's just how I am—but it seems frankly absurd to spend this much energy debating "trash cans and nonsense" while everything else gets... well, swept under the rug, a calculated and sneaky attempt to "dilute" the conversation into nothingness. 🤔

...my personal philosophy is quite simple: anyone currently holding office (regardless of their political party) deserves intense political scrutiny until the public feels things are finally right.

...you bring up all these things—partisans, LGBT issues, Pyongyang—and please don't take this personally, I'm merely reflecting what's been reported in the mainstream media, BUT I dare you—or anyone else here—to try and explain one specific phenomenon 🤔 to me. Back in the era of dictators, god knows, and his "inner circle," you weren't allowed to act publicly, criticize the government, be openly LGBT, or even mention a certain local landmark... you'd end up sent straight to Alcatraz or some remote wilderness. 😲 So, how is it possible 😲 that the thread creator and most of his "crew" are out there attending various parties, celebrating the legacy and actions of that dictator and his group (as seen and reported in the news)? 🤦

...of course it's hot—especially today—and I'm certainly no lizard. 😁

..instead, let's just say, "buddy," let's skip the whiskey for now and grab a beer instead. Cheers!🙂

So there’s this house over in Brooklyn, right? Four different tenants living under one roof. The basement is vacant for now, the ground floor and the next level are just single folks, and there’s a married couple hanging out in the courtyard area. They’ve only got three bins total—one for compost, one for recycling, and one for trash. Basically, the bins are
shared by everyone, which makes me wonder... how on earth are they going to settle the bills? Everyone paying for everything? It’s absolute chaos, I swear.

I mean, it’s pretty standard to link social equity with things like trash collection, isn't it?

It really just goes to show how people in New York City have completely lost their way.

Yeah, everyone has a right to an opinion, more than that even. Thanks for granting me that one... I guess. For the sake of the century.

We're clearly similar. I vote for Toto—not because I like him, but because I hate the alternatives more. I'd give him a 2/3. Not happy with the job, but I was less happy with the guys before him. I grew up in Queens long before Micky knew what a subway was... and I know exactly how he used to skim off the top.

It’s just pointless when every single trash bin becomes a huge deal. This has always happened and always will. Doesn't matter if it's Bloomberg or Eric Adams.

So these current hysterics, where people lose it over 20 grams of misplaced waste, are just pathetic.

Because I remember much bigger waste management issues.

I remember Bloomberg and all his scams and lies.

Just relax, sanitation will pick it up.
And those BM365 types in sanitation will eventually disappear... they never actually worked anyway.

It's actually quite straightforward. There's a flat fee $15for households, and then you just pay for whatever volume of recycling bags you fill up; those bags come in sizes like 2, 4, $2.75(specifically 10, 20, or 40 liters). I can only hope that each individual resident takes the initiative to buy their own bags.

They never had a compass to begin with, acting as if some sort of servant exists solely to clean up after them.

Can the city administration just hand all of this over to the Department of Sanitation in New York City?

And when exactly is Vance going to start doing his job?

It feels like he spends half the work week digging himself into a hole, only to fly off to visit family in Indianapolis—where, if memory serves, his stint running the municipal services was anything but a success.

Look, I’ve never worked for a sanitation department in my life, but even I could have steered our local Waste Management back onto the right track.

I don't know. I'm not really trying to make excuses for the establishment, but honestly, public service is just a mix of corporate cronyism and political favors. You can't even call it out because of how the laws are set up.

I used to hang around Bernie Sanders' crowd, maybe even a year before he passed. There were these local guys asking him where they could apply to be a sanitation driver... He promised everyone everything, then it just turned into a race to see who could get in with the big corporations. And now, suddenly, we're short on drivers...

If we’re being honest, even the most cynical among us would agree that Bernie Sanders was a special breed of disaster. The real issue here isn't that things haven't changed; it's that Eric Adams isn't even attempting to fix the rot. He’s simply mastered the art of the lie. At this point, my only sliver of hope is that the worst-case scenario isn't actually reality: Those who deceive are the ones who pilfer.

I don't want to label the dead, I've seen his megalomania and his shitty way of governing too... It doesn't matter anymore...

Honestly, look at what people on this forum are saying. Your total turnaround from being his biggest fan to his harshest critic is pretty noticeable... I don't really care about the motives, but it stands out...

Would you have voted differently if you knew then what you know now?

hollowmason64 said:They aren't distancing themselves at all; they’re just playing both sides to look decent. Honestly, this Ante Gotovina guy is just obsessed with building his own brand, and he's talking nonsense just to make it happen.

Quincy:
If Petek had been chosen instead of Ante Gotovina, the Democratic Party would be making a serious play to take control of the city. I have a feeling they’ll break off from the coalition before the regular elections anyway to prep for the new ones. Of course, Eric Adams isn't smart enough to see that coming.
I’m worried the Democratic Party won't win power anywhere anymore, let alone in New York City.
And they aren't going to leave anything behind, because leaving would mean giving the people they managed to slot in more leverage. Stop talking nonsense 🤣
And what would the Democratic Party even gain from early elections? In the most optimistic scenario, maybe one or two extra council members? Great. And then what? 😁

Everything is still running smoothly on my end. 🙂

Okay... and? Do you actually have a specific grievance with that department head? Do you know anyone else who stepped up that you think is actually qualified?
Or is your only issue just whether someone is an old acquaintance of someone else?

And you're claiming trash pickup is still a disaster?
It sounds like New Yorkers, the media, and the director of Waste Management are all lying. You, of course, are the only one telling the truth. 😁

New Yorkers are complaining about irregular trash collection
The news is full of New Yorkers complaining that their mixed waste hasn't been picked up from the street in over two weeks. Some are also complaining about the increasing stench and how dirty New York City looks.

Without a doubt. I would have thrown my useless vote toward Nikki Haley. She was perhaps the only semi-palatable option in that entire collection of morons and crooks.

Bloomberg’s defining trait of arrogance was his accessibility—he handed out New York City's funds as if they were some inheritance left to him by a grandmother. And fine, that small detail doesn't matter; that was all just a facade.

Man, back then she just thought her project would fly through. Since it didn't, suddenly Eric Adams is the bad guy.
In an election, she'd probably vote for whoever would let her push whatever agenda she wants through today. 😬

I won't talk about the late guy anymore. I don't think he was a good person, even if I saw some decent sides at one point. It's kind of like your mom—basically a bad guy, but you still saw him unselfishly helping total strangers...

Nancy has the knowledge and the experience, but she's got that same selfish, crooked side too. Kind of like Bush, I guess... at least that's how it feels.

Excuse me? Let’s not be absurd. This isn't "my" project; it is a legitimate proposal that aligns perfectly with the current urban development strategy—the very one Eric Adams uses to bolster his campaign platform. I am simply a resident living adjacent to this plan, someone who genuinely desires progress for my neighborhood and for New York City as a whole. I didn't even learn the plan existed until November 2021, only when we were abruptly informed it had been rejected. There was absolutely no explanation provided. In fact, the plan had already been shot down back in 2012 without a single word of justification. It seems Eric Adams is merely continuing that old style of political maneuvering, acting like a rogue whenever he finds an opening.

There’s no such thing as a break while the reconstruction is underway. You might as well go ahead and take your vacation now, if you can find any peace.
