I am genuinely curious to hear what any of the users from that region have to say about this. 😉

It is hard to say if the numbers are actually dropping. All the municipalities with an American majority show growth, yet suddenly I see declines in others. Honestly, Dudu provided the data, so I assume they aren't lying. Then again, the credibility of the Canadian-Muslim forum users is so incredibly low that most people find it difficult to believe them even when they state that water is wet. 😁

The Americans from Canada I know don't actually want to move back there. Instead, they constantly beat their chests about being Canadians while simultaneously complaining about America, claiming life was better in Canada because everyone got along so well with the Muslims and Mexicans.
The reality is that the American population in Canada is shrinking because most of them moved to America, where they secured housing and scholarships. Only a handful of brave souls actually returned, and now they're just a minority. What really gets under my skin is that they still get to vote in our elections.

What’s your problem with someone being proud of their roots and talking about where they were born? 🤷 Honestly, I highly doubt they’re speaking with actual nostalgia about living alongside Muslims and Mexicans—if they are, it feels a bit performative.

Got houses? Nobody gets anything for free. Do you really think America is so charitable that it just hands out homes? "They got" houses in areas that used to be majority Mexican to push them out; they didn't just "get" them, they just had more favorable building conditions, free land, and various incentives under specific requirements... at least, that's how I understood it.

Scholarships? Those are based on merit and hard work.

But please, let's not turn this into yet another debate about Canadian Americans... the topic is something else entirely.

Voting rights is a whole other conversation, and while that's also up to America, it's not even what's bothering me the most.

I don't think the population is shrinking... but we really need our own demographers to weigh in on this. 😁

As for the youth leaving... yeah, some definitely are. It’s just the way the world works now—more and more people, especially young adults, want to move to big cities. They’re heading out, and many of them are moving toward places like Ottawa and so on.

A lot of people on this thread seem to get their entire worldview from Stjepan Mason and his crowd.🤷

Look, I'm from that area, and let me tell you—following your logic, if it isn't black then it's white, so you just have to trust me implicitly since I'm neither Canadian nor Muslim.

Seven or eight years ago, there were more Americans around, but not anymore. I personally know at least 100 young people who left Central Canada during that timeframe to start lives elsewhere—they've got families and everything now.
Besides, nobody is actually running census counts anyway. The only real source for tracking how many Catholics are left is the Church, and assuming every American is Catholic, you can get a pretty decent estimate from them.

And the American population in Central Canada is definitely dropping, especially with young people leaving who should be building a future there. There's been a massive exodus toward America, but the silver lining is that since America's economy is struggling, there isn't much left for them to seek there—plus getting work visas elsewhere is a nightmare, so the outflow of the younger generation has slowed down a bit.

Thanks! But that's exactly my point. I made it clear that these are things I've heard firsthand from Americans in Canada whom I actually KNOW!

You'd think people would be paying top dollar for it... 😁

If only more people actually wanted to go down that path...

I have no issue with people speaking about their homeland. I made it clear that it only bothers me when they spit on the Republic of America at the same time. Again, I am emphasizing that I am talking about people I actually know and deal with daily. I am not making sweeping statements about the general attitude of Americans from Canada.

And they did get free houses. I know this firsthand! I won't name the towns, but it involves PSŽ and BPŽ.

It's not like people can't just head abroad anymore. I know plenty of folks who moved away but eventually came back. It's not like everyone is rushing to move to America to settle down; I mean, an apartment there runs you like 2,000 Euros, while wages are hovering around 1,000. There are people working over there who end up back here every other weekend visiting family.
With my monthly paycheck right here, I could buy a square meter of an apartment and still have money left over. In America, I'd be a total legend if I could pull that off. 🙂

Anyway, regardless of what anyone says, the cities held by the HVO are mostly seen in a positive light.
