This movie is garbage. Just straight-up, unimaginable trash.
The dialogue is painful, the pacing is all over the place, there’s zero character development, the humor is terrible, and the cringe moments? Unbearable. And don't even get me started on the soundtrack—Eminem, seriously?? Plus, the CGI is so bad I was basically squinting through my glasses just to tell Venom apart from the other guy during the big climax.
I guess the only decent part was the chemistry between Venom and Eddie. Venom is such a goofball that it actually works as being kind of cute, I suppose. 😁
Also, honestly, what kind of insult is it to throw Stan Lee 1.5/10 into a piece of junk like this?

I just finished my own deep dive after catching it earlier today. Look, I’m not going to join the mob on RT and crucify the thing like they are, but let’s be honest: the movie is fundamentally broken. It feels like they lost about 20 or 30 minutes of crucial footage somewhere along the way during editing.

You can check out my full breakdown right here—don't worry, it's completely spoiler-free.

This isn't MCU quality; it’s just a blatant Sony cash grab. First, they drop hints about Venom being part of the MCU just to bait the naive crowd, and then they start cooking up schemes to build a Sinister Six universe and bring Spider-Man back after the third installment.

We should probably start boycotting Sony until they realize fans actually want all their characters integrated into the MCU under Kevin Feige's leadership.

As for the movie itself, people looking for mindless popcorn entertainment will probably have a good time since it's short, simple, and features some decent bits from Hardy. But for anyone with higher standards or actual MCU fans, it’s going to feel pretty hollow.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and I might not even get around to it, but I'm really hoping it doesn't flop. I’ve been wanting to see Carnage on the big screen for a long time now—assuming the plot listed on Wikipedia is actually accurate, which I'm counting on. 😁).

Hardy signed on for three films, and they already hinted at Carnage in the post-credits scene, so we might actually see him on the big screen by late 2019.

...or maybe this movie just bombs completely so we don't have to deal with being bombarded by endless YouTube ads and TV commercials for Sony Carnage and the rest of them next year.

So, we get Venom, but what if they actually gave us a PG-13 version of Carnage? Honestly, compared to those two, characters like Punisher and Deadpool look like total pushovers. 🤣

I have absolutely no clue what kind of movie those people were watching when they gave this a 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, because honestly, Venom was a blast despite a few weird character inconsistencies here and there, though that didn't really ruin the experience for me. It was super fun, and yeah, maybe Hardy trips up a little in certain spots, but overall he’s just great...

Look, I'm not saying it's garbage—there are definitely some fun bits in there—but compared to how Venom is portrayed in the comics or even his previous appearances in Spider-Man movies, the story just doesn't hit that satisfying sweet spot.

The cast is actually top-tier, but it feels like they were rushed into these roles at the last second, so they couldn't really bring much creative flair to the table. For about half the movie, most of them feel totally unconvincing. Especially Michelle Williams... I mean, she’s incredible in everything I’ve seen her in, but here? It might not even be her fault; the script just writes scenes that feel like they were slapped together without any thought. And then there's the whole Hardy casting situation. Don't get me wrong, Hardy is great, but given his typical macho vibe, he just didn't click for me as this confused, weak guy (though, okay, I did laugh at a few of the goofy moments, mostly when he was interacting with Venom)...

And don't even get me started on the plot holes. The whole villain subplot is basically just a CGI spectacle, and honestly, not in a good way. The build-up to the climax felt rushed, like they just took a basic idea and cranked it up to eleven without any actual pacing.

Plus, the way Venom actually comes to be just didn't sit right with me. Everything feels so black-and-white character-wise, paired with those cringey dialogues and jokes that are clearly aimed at kids (you know, that younger demographic the marketing targets), but it's nowhere near the level of humor you usually expect from Marvel movies.

The one bright spot is that they're finally bringing in Carnage, which I feel is long overdue. Isn't the whole Avengers crew practically geared up for him anyway? My only gripe is that they're introducing him into a story that's being handled like this. This could have been something truly legendary in the MCU, but instead, they kind of let it down. Still, I guess my final takeaway isn't terrible. It's just a shame, because it could have been amazing...

Pretty much everyone signs on for at least three flicks.

It really all comes down to the box office numbers. So far, the opening weekend is looking solid.

I caught a screening yesterday, and I was actually quite surprised to see a packed house.
There seemed to be a significant female audience in attendance; perhaps that's due to the presence of Tom Hardy?
I watched it in 3D, though I must say, there really isn't any necessity to opt for the 3D version.

Spoilers ahead:
The film is decent; it certainly isn't as poor as many critics have been claiming.
The opening feels a bit sluggish, as if it fails to truly connect with Venom. However, the motorcycle action sequence was excellent, and the entire segment where they get acquainted is well-executed.
As for the fight against Riot, that was my least favorite part. It’s far too dark, with constant jumping movements that make it somewhat difficult to follow the choreography.

Honestly, I’m crossing my fingers that this thing flops hard. If they fail, maybe they'll finally stop trying to force this whole universe they've dreamed up just to watch it fall apart.

Look, even if it isn't a masterpiece, the movie will likely pull enough at the box office to break even, especially with that big Marvel logo on the screen and Tom Hardy leading the charge; you'll definitely see packed theaters during that opening weekend.

And hey, we’ve got Woody Harrelson back for the sequel, which is honestly enough to get me to buy a ticket. I mean, I’m super curious to see how they pull this one off... even though I already know I'll probably have a hundred different complaints about it ☕

I watched it, and while it isn't exactly a masterpiece, I suppose it isn't quite as bad as everyone seems to claim. It was actually somewhat entertaining for most of the runtime, though I feel there were plenty of areas where they could have done much better. They probably should have given it an R rating, honestly. There are a few violent death scenes that lack any actual blood or impact, which felt rather pointless to me. Then there are those tired clichés; some of them were already being discussed over in the "movie clichés" thread on this sub 😁. For instance, when the protagonist walks into a diner and the news playing on the TV happens to be about him—that’s exactly what you pointed out as a cliché on the forum 🤣. There are certain logical gaps too, but I guess those can be overlooked. All in all, it's watchable and moderately fun, even if it really could have been much stronger. I'd say maybe a 6/10.

Is Lady Gaga inadvertently undermining Venom?

Honestly, this movie is just plain boring. There’s zero sense of humor, and the characters? Total non-entities. Sure, the action sequences are okay—and they're a welcome break from the endless, mind-numbing dialogue—but even those can't save such a mediocre film.

$205 million for the opening weekend. Technically, the movie already broke even right after the premiere...

I suppose the timing works out okay, since between Lady Gaga and Venom, Venom feels like the better pick to me. Aside from the Peppermint release, I don't think the schedule is anything particularly impressive

Yeah, feels like we're picking movies at the theater the same way voters pick candidates—just settling for the lesser of two evils.🤷

My local AMC was packed, but most of what's playing is just kids' stuff and that Lady Gaga flick.
