The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

The movie mostly works for me, though I wasn't a huge fan of how they handled the ending, but I don't want to get too repetitive about my thoughts on the original premise.

To me, it's way more interesting than Cloverfield.

It certainly had its merits, and honestly, even if it doesn't tie directly back into the Cloverfield lore, I don't mind the lack of connective tissue. In the original Cloverfield, they were essentially searching for answers by candlelight, so why should this be any different? As a standalone thriller, it wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it worked.
The narrative here actually possesses a sense of progression—a clear beginning, middle, and end. It isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, yet it avoids that tired "been there, done that" feeling; it’s far from boring and manages to throw a few surprises your way. It reminded me most strongly of Event Horizon and Sunshine.
The cast is excellent, even if most of them were relatively unknown to me.
My one grievance—Spoiler:
If I had one complaint, it’s that it could have wrapped up just a few seconds earlier; that jittery, jumping CGI monster was a bit much.

As for this new movie... I haven't sat down to watch it yet, but honestly, just looking at the trailer and the clips floating around YouTube, it looks like total garbage.

To me, Cloverfield (2008) remains the only realistic monster movie out there. That’s how these things—whether they're about monsters or aliens—should actually feel. They shouldn't be played out like Godzilla or King Kong. I think that’s exactly why the original film blew up and became such a hit; it actually had that sense of grounded dread that everyone else is missing. And the worst part? It’s not even that hard to pull off. I’d take a movie like that over something like Transformers or Pacific Rim any day. Those movies feel more like animated cartoons to me; sure, the CGI is great, but from a design and storytelling perspective, the creatures just don't feel believable.
