I felt like it didn't really hit home the way Spielberg intended. There were a few pretty scenes, but other than that, I wasn't really feeling it.

The first time I watched it, I wasn't really feeling it. I was hanging out with a group of people, and I usually find it hard to actually settle in and get into a movie when there's a crowd around.
The second time I saw it, I was all by myself—it just happened to be playing on TV. And man, I cried through the entire thing.

Oh, that Spielberg—I mean, how does he manage to just absolutely butcher a script like that...

Maybe Kubrick was onto something when he suggested that this kind of film is more his speed, though if only he’d stuck around long enough to oversee the whole thing... now *that* would have been a masterpiece!

But as it stands...

I thought the first part held up well enough, but honestly, it should have just ended with a sinking ship. Everything after that felt like a total slog. I won't go as far as saying it was terrible, but it definitely wasn't a smooth ride.

I’m totally fine with it!
Maybe things would've felt different if everyone around me hadn't trashed it, so I didn't really have any expectations.
But little Haley Joel Osment was born for roles like this.🙂

So, I just watched it again. It’s still great, honestly. But I can't help thinking it would have been—like, freaking genius—with the best ending ever if it had just stopped right at that part with the blue villa. Just trapped under the Ferris wheel, drifting through that endless blue ocean space. And without a narrator. Just one long, slow camera pull-back until that ship becomes nothing more than a tiny, glowing star.

As it stands, it definitely feels about 20 minutes too long. That epilogue just felt kind of stretched out, I guess.

Oh, and fear is still the best character ever written... 🙏 They really should do a spin-off where fear takes the lead role. 😁

I mean, if we're talking about design, it's kind of a miss. They don't really look like evolved robots to me; they look more like evolved supermodels, I guess.

I think you mentioned somewhere that the movie grossed you out early on because of that stripping scene. I was actually paying attention to that part, and honestly, maybe it was better that he stopped it—it just didn't feel right for the movie... I don't know... it would have been too cliché if she had just stripped 🤷

I can't stand that movie. And before anyone starts attacking me, I’m not saying it’s stupid or poorly made—it's just not for me. Honestly, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth every single time it pops up on the TV, and God knows how many times I've had to sit through it.

The first time I watched it, it was good—but by the second viewing, it felt better. By the third, it was excellent, and after the fourth and fifth times, it became one of my absolute favorites. I just love this film... I really, truly love it. 🙂
