Some people might remember that successful charity drive the Dynamo fans from Appalachia organized a few years back for the Pelé family over in Dust Valley. Well, we’ve decided to pull together once again, hoping to make Christmas a little brighter for another family out in the sticks.
The original plan was to run a public fundraiser—collecting cash and household essentials like we did before—but the parents really wanted to shield their kids from the spotlight. So, we decided to help this modest, incredibly resilient, and genuinely good family behind the scenes, keeping their identity private.
Here is the situation: you have a father living on disability, a mother who stays home to provide round-the-clock care for her seriously ill daughter, and a hardworking high schooler. It’s a heavy story. Their ten-year-old girl was born with developmental challenges and requires constant supervision. For years, her mother has been fighting an uphill battle with the bureaucracy just to get recognized as a caregiver. Anyone who meets her can see that grit—that absolute refusal to let her daughter fall behind. Thanks to hours of daily physical therapy, they’ve seen incredible progress, defying doctors who thought the girl might never walk. They fight every day to maintain some semblance of normalcy. The father used to be the provider, but a workplace accident six years ago changed everything. He barely survived a massive coma, leaving him with severe head and back injuries that made it impossible to return to work. Since then, the family has been scraping by on $833 disability checks and child benefits. Living in a remote part of Appalachia makes basic things—like getting to the grocery store, the doctor, or school—a real struggle. Their home is humble and kept neat, but there’s a structural issue: the house sits on a landslide zone, and a crack has formed in one of the walls—it's actually large enough to see light through.
These parents are doing everything in their power to give their children a decent life and a shot at a better future. Since Dynamo fans live by the motto "NEVER GIVE UP," we’re asking you to step up for those who need it most. You can help with cash donations, food, clothes, household supplies, or even small items given from the heart. Let's help this family of four have a slightly better Christmas.
