Hey there, I’m looking to get some music playing in my car. My ride has a CD player, but now that I’ve popped a blank disc into my laptop, it’s hitting me with that annoying pop-up: "How do you want to use this disc?" It gives me two choices: "Like a USB flash drive" or "CD/DVD player." Which one am I supposed to click? Also, do I actually need to burn the disc, or can I just drag and drop the songs onto it? And what about file formats—should I go with MP3 or something else? Thanks in advance, and sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong spot.

So, I’ve got this 2006 Opel Astra H, and it’s rocking the factory CD player—the one that says "CD 30" on it. Does anyone actually know what formats this thing can handle? Like, what am I even looking at here?

Look, if you're dealing with a basic car CD player—like, one that doesn't specifically say it supports MP3s—you're basically stuck burning standard audio CDs. That means you'll only get about 80 minutes of music per disc. You might want to grab a program for your computer similar to this one...

Just make sure you set the software to burn an "audio CD" instead of a data disc, and you should be all set.

Thanks! Quick question though—what kind of file format are we talking about for these songs?

Regarding the audio, just make sure the program doesn't go over 80 minutes—that's about the limit for a standard CD. So, let's say we're looking at roughly 15 songs? It really all depends on the track lengths; some might be two minutes while others stretch to five, so I just put in a ballpark estimate for how many tracks will fit on one disc.

Honestly, even radio CDs aren't really the big thing anymore—they aren't even expensive, but why bother when you can just get a USB-enabled radio? You can grab an 8GB thumb drive, load it up with a thousand songs, and call it a day. No more messing around with carrying discs; you just do a quick copy and paste on your computer and move everything over to the USB.
