Bone Density Testing (DEXA Scan)

My bad if this was already posted, couldn't find the old thread...
So, my grandma needs a checkup, but her appointment isn't until the fall. That's way too long since her back is killing her, or whatever it is...
Question: does anyone know where she can go privately for an exam in Cleveland or the County of Monterey, and what's the damage like? Thanks.

I’m not entirely sure which specific densitometry test you’re referring to—I’m assuming we’re talking about bone density scans for calcium levels.
Essentially, it’s a five-minute procedure—you just place your limb into the machine and it uses ultrasound technology to calculate how much calcium is packed into your bones.
Every major hospital should have one of these machines on hand—honestly, even most decent private clinics...
The equipment itself costs roughly $11,000,
or at least that was the price tag a few years back—it’s probably cheaper now.

There’s also a procedure—I believe it's called scintigraphy—where they inject a radioactive isotope that settles in the bones. Using an X-ray or a similar imaging device, you can pinpoint exactly where there's an issue, whether it's an outgrowth, a cavity, or some other kind of abnormality. 🤔

As for densitometry, I think that's a fairly straightforward method for detecting osteoporosis...

I know, I’m digging up something from the prehistoric era here, but I really need an answer to this: where in Cleveland can I go to get that checkup done privately? Apparently, if you try to go through the main hospital, the wait times are just brutal.

In Columbus, you can just pay for it through the medical school, so there might be a similar setup at the university clinics in Cleveland too.

I took my mom over to San Francisco to see her OBGYN, Dr. Smith—his office is right across from the naval hospital, about $83

A few months back, I had a bone density scan done on my rib—had to wait ten days just to get the appointment, of course. You just lie down on the machine while it scans your body, and then you get a readout showing exactly which areas have lower density. :-)
