I thought it was great... What can I say? Classic Steven Spielberg. 🙂

One thing that actually made my day was seeing how packed the theater was at Times Square when we went to catch his show. It was just a Wednesday, sure, but man, you wouldn't have known it.

Just walked out of the theater... honestly, I’m not even sure how to process it. I liked it, per se, but the whole thing is just bizarre—and that ending? Total mess. Everything feels rushed, like they just threw the plot together at the last second to wrap things up. The animation is flawless, obviously, but as far as actual storytelling goes... it's hit or miss at best.😢

I caught this one on a massive screen here in SC, and I have to say, the experience was absolutely breathtaking. But honestly? If they had just trimmed about twenty minutes off the runtime, it would have been perfect. 😁
Personally, I think "Spirited Away" takes the win every single time.

I’m no expert on this genre, and honestly, I haven't even seen Spirited Away, but I still enjoyed it—as did the five-year-old I had tagging along with me. That said, the film could have benefited from some serious script editing, especially considering how rushed and confusing that ending felt. It’s an intriguing story, though; quite dark, actually.

Look, I’m a massive anime fanatic. I’ve sat through everything from Spirited Away to Princess Mononoke, and obviously Howl's Moving Castle.
That last one? Absolute perfection. The plot, the animation... man, the whole thing is just top-tier.
The only thing that drives me up the wall is when Americans try to "fix" the titles. Take Princess Mononoke, for example—it basically means Demon Princess, yet they insist on keeping it as Mononoke... give me a break.
And don't even get me started on how in Howl's Moving Castle, the lead wizard is supposed to be called Howl, not some weird localized version. I honestly don't get why people feel entitled to mess with the original titles and character names. It’s seriously infuriating.😠

The thing is, Howl is basically just the Americanized version of the name Howl.

It’s kind of like how Americans would just call someone named John or Paul if they were translating from another language. (I don't know, maybe I'm just feeling extra biblical today.)

Plus, if you consider the fact that for Japanese speakers, the distinction between R and L is practically non-existent, 😬 it makes perfect sense why writing it as Howl in English is actually the right move.

BTW, it’s weird how you're getting worked up over the literal translation of Howl's title, but you aren't saying anything about Spirited Away, even though the original title is actually "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi." 😬

Same here. That scene with Chihiro is a straight-up masterpiece. But Howl's is pretty solid too—fairytale vibes but stays serious. I actually saw it in a theater here about two years ago when they had it playing on Broadway. Still can't believe they actually released it. A friend told me you can grab the DVD at a local drugstore or something now.

Yeah, I read the book. It didn't hit the same. Pretty sure you can just find a download for it on a torrent site.

I watched it on that DVD and honestly, it drove me insane. You set the language to English, but it doesn't even ask about subtitles. Then the movie starts dubbed in English, with English subtitles running underneath. When you try to fix it in the settings, get this—it just offers you Spanish and Portuguese. Turns out Portuguese was the dub and Spanish was actually Japanese. 😵

I was looking into the plot because I thought it was just some cheesy romance that Hayao Miyazaki turned into his own little fairy tale, but then I read online that the story is way deeper and a lot got taken out of context. Not that I care, though. It’s still worth watching. 😍 Spirited Away is way more complex; compared to that, Disney looks like some innocent bedtime story. Spirited Away's Chihiro 😍

Still, the animation itself is unbeatable, as always. 🙏
