EEG Headset/Electrode Setup

Has anyone here dealt with this before?
Since I’m dealing with epilepsy and a standard EEG isn't catching the source, they need to do a more detailed study. Basically, they drill into the skull to place electrodes directly near the brain to pinpoint exactly where the seizure activity is happening.
After that, they’ll decide if surgery is actually an option. It should all be happening soon at the Mayo Clinic. Now, it’s just up to me to decide if I’m okay with going through with it.
It's the brain we're talking about, so it feels like a huge deal and isn't exactly common. Since I don't personally know anyone who's been through this, I figured I'd ask if anyone here has any insight or experience?

Yesterday, I was watching a segment on reality TV about exactly what you're describing. It focused on a ten-year-old girl who was suffering from upwards of ten seizures a day. The procedure involves opening the skull first, placing electrodes directly onto the brain, and then threading them out through small holes in the skull—it looked like about twenty wires poking through. Then they stitch the scalp back up with temporary sutures. They monitor the patient for about 24 hours to identify the exact epicenter of the seizures. There was a huge concern that the activity might be centered in her speech area, which would have disqualified her from the surgery. I assume that's the case for any critical functional center. Fortunately, they determined that wasn't the case, and they operated the very next day. They removed the diodes, excised the problematic area, and then briefly repositioned the probes on the surface to confirm everything was stable. They stitched her up, and that was it. She stayed in recovery to ensure things stabilized, because epilepsy is tricky like that—sometimes another part of the brain can pick up the "habit" of seizing. The girl seems to be doing great; she hasn't had a seizure in a month.

Personally, if my seizures were that frequent, I’d jump at the chance.

If you have cable, keep an eye out because they rerun shows all the time. I noticed they list contact info, so it might be worth reaching out to them directly. Ask when that specific episode is scheduled to air again or if there's any way to get a recording of it.
They actually have an episode airing today at 11:10 AM and 6:15 PM, so there's a good shot it'll pop up again.🤷

Since I'm not in NYC right now and don't have cable here, I won't be able to catch that show, but you've definitely made it sound interesting.
I sent an inquiry to the TV station, but I haven't heard back from them yet.
Someone is heading my way from NYC soon, so maybe they could bring a recording if you're able to grab one.

Anyway, based on what I saw—and if things really are that intense everywhere else—I’d absolutely tell you to give it a shot if those seizures are as frequent and severe as you say. If I were in your shoes, I'd be doing the exact same thing.

I finally made my decision, so now I'm just playing the waiting game until they tell me when to show up. Even though I'm third on the list, they said it won't be until next spring because Dr. Fauci is totally swamped.
