I haven't seen anyone talking about this movie coming to theaters soon—I guess I'm just late to the party. Basically, it’s based on a book where some kid finds a dragon egg and develops a bond with it (not a sexual one ☕, obviously!)—so then there's riding dragons and casting magic and all that. What do you guys think... is it just a bad attempt at copying Lord of the Rings, or maybe an exciting fantasy adventure film? 😬
It even has some big names in it... like John Malkovich... ☕

I just caught the trailer, and it looks pretty intriguing. I'm still torn, though... whether I should dive into the book before the movie drops, or if I should just go into the theater with zero expectations and no preconceived notions 🙂

...but honestly, I doubt I'll actually sit down and watch it. I've just never been much of a fantasy person. 🙂

The trailer doesn't look particularly promising, though there is one specific thing that might actually drag me into a theater: Sienna Guillory. 😁 Which essentially means... I’ll only go if nothing significantly better is playing at the same time.

So, a friend of mine was telling me about the plot in this book—basically, dragons moved into some Elf territory and decided to start sharing their power with them. An Elf could touch a dragon egg to form a bond, though the dragon actually gets to pick who they connect with, I guess. That’s how the dragon riders started. Then humans showed up and tried to do the same thing. From what I gather, there's this one guy (Brom?, maybe?)—who I think John Malkovich plays—who bonded with a dragon, too. But when his dragon was killed, he basically lost his mind because losing the dragon meant losing a part of himself. So, he stole an egg, faked a connection with a new dragon, gathered a crew, and decided to go after the dragon riders... who were kind of like the local police in that land. And if I remember right, Eragon was the son of a rider who used to be in Brom's group... yeah, something like that...

I actually heard about that movie a long, long time ago. I have this feeling it might actually be on par with Harry Potter.

'Then again', maybe it’ll just surprise me. 🙂

So, this book—or books, doesn't really matter how many there are—was actually written by some 17-year-old kid who thought he could just take the best parts of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and mash them together. Dragon knights? Give me a break. And once I saw the lead actor, honestly... I have no words. Anyway👎

The editing and production on this film are honestly terrible...
While watching it, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was just some mediocre Sunday afternoon TV movie...
John Malkovich shows up in literally three scenes, and he’s awful in all of them...

So, what kind of book is it, really? Is it actually any good or not? I'm planning on reading it before the movie comes out.

I just finished reading the book, and honestly, it didn't leave much of an impression on me. You can tell the author has plenty of ideas, but he just hasn't quite figured out how to pull them off properly. The dialogue feels pretty lackluster, and there were even some moments that felt downright silly... though I suppose he's still quite young. At the end of the day, it doesn't even come close to what you'd get from Martin, Herbert, or even Potter... But hey, give it a read yourself; I'm curious to hear what you think, since I don't know anyone else who has picked this up yet.
I’ll definitely be checking out the movie. I'm really curious to see how it turns out, especially since John Malkovich and Robert Carlyle are in the cast.
And yeah... you'll notice right away that they didn't put much effort into the translation. There are so many mistakes that are impossible to ignore... and they even messed up the names, like changing Neal to Nil or Jeod-Džoud... it's just terrible!😵

I'm asking because I'm actually torn—I can't quite decide if I should dive into that one or pick up Amulet from Samarkand (it popped up in my recommendations, probably something like the Harry Potter series). I’ll most likely end up grabbing Eragon, but I'm still on the fence. Thanks so much for the info!🙂

you sure about that?? the lead guy looks so damn gay in the trailer that I was already thinking he could probably screw the dragon and every other dude in the movie at the same time🤮 🤮 🤮

I would probably swear up and down that the movie should just be titled dragon.😬

For the most part, the only redeeming qualities are the dragons!!!111 🤣
I think I might have even spotted Irons in the trailer? I mean, I'm fairly sure I saw him in some teaser for this kind of garbage, and since he's in all those movies... well...

I actually finished that book about a year ago. It’s definitely aimed at an older kid demographic, and if you look at it through that lens, it’s perfectly fine. Personally, I don't really fall into that age group, but I’ve always had a soft spot for children's literature.
Bottom line? I think it's worth your time. I haven't caught the movie yet, but I'll definitely add it to my watchlist...
