Watched a movie yesterday. It's basically a carbon copy of LOTR....

The main difference? In LOTR, Frodo knows he's a weakling. In Eragon, the lead is just some metrosexual poser acting like he's Aragorn...

It's an okay watch, I guess, but if you're a fan of Lord of the Rings, prepare to be disappointed... they even ripped off the names...

It’s basically just a cheap rip-off of the Dragonriders series by Anne McCaffrey.

The movie starts off with this decent hook if you're actually into reading about dragons in Anne McCaffrey's Dragonflight, Dragonquest, Dragonsong, and Dragonsinger... but then it just quickly slides into this total, soul-crushing monotony.

Honestly, you'd probably have a better time checking out the PC game Drakan: Order of the Flame if you're looking for some actual action and a bit of bonding with dragons...

My buddy is a total fantasy fanatic (he’s deep into D&D). He's all about that stuff—dragons that are actually smart, elves, dwarves, orcs, humans, you name it. You definitely don't get that kind of depth in Harry Potter. Honestly, just head over to Reddit or something and see what people have to say about it.

So look, I actually liked the movie (I'm a sucker for Fantasy 😁) and the plot itself is pretty great (I'll definitely read the book 😁), but what this movie was seriously missing was—the character development!!!!!! Like, they literally CUT scenes. I honestly felt like they were trying way too hard to make a short movie that says everything at once. And they totally blew it, because some potentially awesome moments were just left on the cutting room floor when they could have been amazing!!! When I talk about development, I mean—honestly, the only relationship I actually felt by the end was between Eragon and the dragon (even if that felt a bit shaky at first), but the bond between Eragon and his uncle, or Eragon and Arya, or Eragon and Ironsa (who was, btw, wuaaaaaaaaa, the best character in the whole movie!!!)—that stuff was basically non-existent!!!!!! Ugh, and I literally wanted to scream at Eragon when he was acting like a total teenage brat. Like, really? That's what people need in a crisis?

Anyway, the scenery was GORGEOUS, the soundtrack was cool, and that black guy with the green eyes was just... wow, so niceeeee. The dragon scenes were awesome (especially when she was still tiny, man, she was so cute 😁 😁 😁), and the action scenes were good too... but I'm telling you, they should have damn well developed those characters and their relationships more deeply, like God intended. Instead, I just walked away feeling like "something is missing" (I'd say half the scenes, honestly), so it was such a bummer because I actually liked the movie "overall."

Just hang on for the DVD release... 😁

I'm with northernangler17 on this one. If someone hasn't actually sat down and finished both the book and the movie, they usually just decide they don't like it based on subjective nonsense—like hating a specific actor or some other triviality. Personally? I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5. But let’s be clear: you can't even put these movies in the same conversation as Lord of the Rings. There is only one Lord of the Rings, and nothing else touches it. That said, in my book, Eragon is far superior to Harry Potter.

Personally, I absolutely love LOTR, Harry Potter, and Narnia. I mean, I'm "aware" that the Harry Potter movies aren't exactly cinematic masterpieces—except maybe the third one, where I’ll give credit where it's due for the amazing directing—but you know, with all those young actors who aren't exactly brilliant and the fact that you can't just cram an entire book into a single movie, I still love them because I'm such a huge fan of the books (and honestly, the movies are just fun 😁)), and I'll tell you, Eragon was "okay" for me since I live for Fantasy. For a second there, I was actually kind of thrilled, and overall the story is pretty great (dragons 😁 😁 😁), but I don't know, I guess just too many things felt "off" and didn't quite flow... so I walked out of the theater thinking, "Ugh, if they had just extended this part, or cut that, or added this..." I really hate leaving a theater feeling like that...😢

Look, I’m a huge fantasy nerd myself, and if you ask me, Harry Potter definitely fits the bill. You’ve got this entire parallel world operating under its own set of rules that just don't apply to our reality, plus there’s a whole crowd of creatures that simply don't exist in the real world. I watched this movie today, and honestly, it was fun. Fun in the way only a total piece of trash can be.
My favorite part had to be at the beginning, when that guy shows up wearing his Levi's jeans.
Or how every single horse in the film somehow manages to outrun a dragon.
Then there’s the traitor's son, who supposedly hears about some dragon riders, travels for an entire week without stopping at a single village, and yet they just happen to stumble right upon him.
Still, I'd say it's one of the better trash movies I've sat through.

Honestly, the movie isn't bad at all. I mean, it’s definitely not Lord of the Rings, but if I had to guess—and I'll say this loosely—it feels like a weird mashup between the Narnia chronicles (which are totally for kids) and Lord of the Rings (which, let's face it, is probably the least "for kids" thing out there). While looking at the whole Lord of the Rings saga, it can feel a bit too self-important sometimes, but this movie actually sits better with me when it comes to, you know, having some actual weight to it. Still, we're talking about Fantasy here! It’s pretty goofy, sure, but above all, it’s fun, well-acted (thanks to Jeremy Irons), and directed well enough that it just works. My gripes? The resistance movement led by that black motherfucker looks way too much like some tribal group from an old documentary. And my biggest issue, hands down: that awful pop song during the end credits. Just... yikes!!! They really should have composed something that actually fit the vibe, especially for the US market (or even the UK).

I think that was Avril Lavigne (I have no clue how to spell her name). The movie is a decent watch, and you can give the young actor a pass since it’s his first time ever being on screen; everything else was just amateur school projects. I wasn't a fan of the resistance movement either. What actually hit home for me was the dragon, and honestly, Rachel Weisz would know I hadn't even read her name during the opening credits. The soundtrack is great, except for that last pop track—you just can't put a song like that in a movie of this caliber.

Look, I get it, but if you guys actually enjoyed this one, it just proves how incredibly starved the fantasy genre is for decent film adaptations.

Honestly, this movie looks like absolute garbage and I was practically rooting for it to fail.🙂

Oh yeah, this is one of those rare movies where, about 20 minutes in, I actually started rooting for both the protagonist and the dragon to just drop dead already. Honestly, even that moron of a king would have been a better pick than this kid. If only Shade had just grabbed the boy and somehow used him to take out the king—now *that* would have been a cool movie!
