One more thing... regarding the home decor—karaka OS 😕... as far as I know, that's a restaurant, or maybe I'm mistaken... what exactly did you mean by "decorating"?

I booked them way ahead of time because those guys are absolutely slammed! Price varies depending on what you're looking for, but I paid about $1,200 and honestly, it was worth every penny.🙂

The Caravel? Yeah, it's a restaurant, but they handle full catering too. We had tons of food—everything from deli meats and various cheeses to all sorts of salads and pasta dishes... there was just so much. They provided bar tables with linens, coolers, servers, and all the tableware (glasses for spirits, wine, soda... ashtrays, plates, silverware, etc.).
There was a massive tent, patio umbrellas... I can't remember everything else, but the whole setup looked incredible! I can send photos if you want, just let me know where to send them.🙂

My wedding is set for May 15th, and I’m thinking about starting to split everything up in just about two weeks... hopefully, I'm not cutting it too close there. 🤷

silentstag02 said:For the hard stuff, you get Stock, Pelin, brandy, and berry vodka. There's no plain vodka and definitely no Jeger :(((((( ! Wine is included—Frankovka and Graševina. Honestly, they should've offered better wines given the price tag. They include all the sodas in original 1L bottles, which is great because you don't end up with watered-down Coke. Plus mineral water and coffee after dinner are included too!

To be honest, it feels way too expensive for me. I wanted lamb for the first night, but they don't include that in the $28 price point, so I'd have to pay extra for the Jeger too...
And they charge $3.25 per chair for the covers....
The venue is gorgeous, the food is great, and the service is solid, but man, it's just overpriced for today's economy...

You're basically paying for the chandeliers because they're paying off a massive loan on them! :-))

People usually bring their own hard liquor anyway—it sits on a side table and guests help themselves whenever. That's standard practice all over the US, not just at your place.
$3.25Maybe the chair cover fee seems steep to you, but they cost $2.25 elsewhere, and in a city like NYC, you can't find anything under $3.25.
Lamb and suckling pig run anywhere from $3 to $5 in the city, same goes for cake.
$28 + $3 + $10 isn't bad at all if the food is top-tier and you get a place to sleep. Any New Yorker would tell you that sounds like a solid deal. 😁

Our wedding is April 17th. We started handing out invites the weekend before last (so, right at the start of March). We visited his relatives on Saturday and mine on Sunday. I spent one day seeing my friends and another day visiting family friends. He finished up the rest of his list this past weekend since that was his only free time. For anyone living far away or just scattered across the US, we'll be sending those invitations by mail.
Don't panic. In my opinion, you can get it all done in a week or two, depending on your guest count and how much free time you actually have. If you spend about 10-15 minutes per person, you'll make it. 🙂 Seriously, there's no reason to stress. 😉

Thanks, rowdypanther16... you've definitely eased my mind. It feels like everyone around me is just constantly feeding into this whole "panic mode" thing lately... ugh... ☕

Jesse Morgan73 said:I wonder if there's any way to negotiate with them—like, instead of the brandy, could they provide something else? My grandparents produce about 400 liters of homemade brandy a year, so it feels a bit silly to pay for it here when they'll just be handing it over anyway...
And regarding those chair covers $3.25? I feel like that's a bit much and you could probably find a cheaper option, assuming they'd even allow me to rent them from somewhere else. If necessary, someone from my family could just come and put them on themselves 🙂. I'm also not entirely sure how the whole cover situation works, but I was actually looking for those heavy, wipeable ones for the chairs. Do they have those, or just the standard white covers? Maybe I'm being a bit tedious, but I don't know what to do when every little detail matters to me 😛.

Yeah, it's pricey for me too $3.25 since you get the cushions in either white or champagne, nothing else. And they won't let you rent covers from outside because apparently they had bad experiences before (I found a place renting them for $2.25, which adds up fast if you have a lot of chairs)! It's basically pure untaxed profit for them! :-))
I loved this venue so much I tried everything to cut costs, but the owner was super stubborn... so I gave up :-((

You can bring your own booze, and they'll just knock $6.75 off the total for every liter consumed! So if 30 liters of moonshine gets drunk, they take
30l *$6.75 off the bill! Sounds like a headache to calculate later, but whatever...
You can bring wine too, then they'll deduct $5.00 per liter used... Hope that helps...

Zackie, it's honestly stupid (don't even know what else to call it) trying to compare prices in D.C. to the Midwest... we know what your cost of living is like, but I'm not sure you get ours.. Just check the price of coffee in D.C. versus Indianapolis, let alone Memphis or Napa, or look at what an average clerk makes in the Midwest versus what they make in D.C.... Maybe then you'll realize there's no comparison!

quietbear13, was Kara super expensive???

Bridezilla Z., how much do they charge for flowers? Are they crazy expensive??

Hey girl, listen—my in-laws' wedding isn't until August 5th, and I haven't even started sending out invitations yet... we're planning to get moving on them in about two weeks, so we're just taking it slow. Honestly, you'll get everything done in time. It feels a little silly to share everything too early anyway, and there’s really no point—people will either tell you right away if they can make it or let you know within a week or two, you know what I mean? On my invites, I have the RSVP date set for April 15th—which is three weeks before the big day—just because we need to give the final headcount to the Hilton and handle all the other logistics... and honestly, I've never actually received an invitation more than a month and a half in advance myself. Don't stress, you aren't running behind at all...😉

I honestly don't get why you're getting so worked up—not sure what the issue is.
Thank God we have guests visiting from both Indianapolis and the Midwest—it gives us a real sense of what things are like out there. And honestly? We seem to be in Indianapolis every other week lately.

And you're telling me about opportunities here and there—my mom worked just to scrape by. $633 Looking back at salaries from the last fifteen years—now we can't even count that high when it comes to pensions. Just goes to show how much things have shifted.
Look, please don't get into that—and definitely don't insult me by claiming the standard of living is higher in Washington, D.C. Sure, you might pull in a slightly bigger paycheck, but then the taxes hit harder, you’ve got a nicer car to maintain, and the utility bills are just insane. It's nothing like what you deal with out in the Midwest. You have to buy absolutely everything—from the meat to the produce. I actually sat down and crunched the numbers to compare the cost of living between the Midwest, some coastal spot, and D.C., and honestly? I’d much rather live somewhere rural on a smaller salary than deal with the massive overhead in the capital. As for weddings, you're paying for it regardless. Of course, there are places in D.C. that'll charge you $60 a head, but that feels like a total rip-off. We kept our budget around $45 per person and found plenty of halls and restaurants—though every single one comes with ridiculous fine print. They’ll charge you for linen rentals, a "service fee" for just being there, extra fees for the servers after midnight, a surcharge to cut your cake, another fee to serve your own desserts, plus parking, band fees, full menu prices for kids, lighting, and even the electricity and water used during the reception. Not to mention those shameless price hikes they pull a week before the big day. Honestly, if your venue isn't a literal death trap, has decent service, plenty of parking, clean linens, and—most importantly—great food, I think you actually got a pretty good deal.

Just ask.🙂 Honestly, this forum has been a lifesaver for me, so I get it.🙂
The girls are based out of Memphis. If you're on Facebook, just search for "Memphis wedding decor."
If you can't find them, I can send over their numbers and email.

I'll just say their work looks high-end—lots of flowers. It’s not like those other places where it's just a bunch of greenery with a tiny flower here and there... plus, they work within whatever budget you have.
Expensive? NO!!! 🙏

Ugh, I’m looking at the photos from Sale Zelenkrov and honestly? It looks sleek and modern. The price tag is basically Hilton level—if I were getting married out in the Midwest, I wouldn't even hesitate for a second. 😁
You can't get married in a high-end venue and expect budget DVD prices. 🤣
Round tables 😍

I’m hoping to catch up with the girls from Chicago this weekend if everything lines up, so I’ll give you an update next week on how it went. That said, you could always just reach out to them via Meta (that’s how I handled it)—they're actually quite easy to coordinate with once you get in touch.

Thanks [Username] 🙂

Hey girls! I’m finally jumping in here after lurking for a long, long time—seriously, I feel like I've been reading everything without saying a single word... finally decided it was time to join the party!🙂

TikTok, I was actually gonna ask you the same thing—could you please send over those phone numbers and email addresses for those flower girls?

I’m still having a hard time bringing this up... but does anyone know where I can pick up some invitation envelopes? I’m looking for the best selection out there—ideally somewhere with really good prices...
It would be so cute if I could find some sparkly ones or maybe something in a fun color, if you guys have any leads on where to look or what they cost🙂
lady dee—I actually grabbed that same cardstock from Staples, so we're using the exact same stuff 😉
What kind of envelopes did you end up getting? Just the standard ones, or did you go with something more specialty 😍

Do a little research; property taxes aren't identical in Washington, D.C., compared to the Midwest or the surrounding suburbs.
you notice it as soon as you leave the D.C. area, like if you head out to somewhere like suburban Maryland😲
you think the hotel price is too high—fair enough. Some people don't need an ultra-modern hall; they just want decent food and drinks. Besides, when we eat out in the Midwest, I don't see the food being any cheaper than in D.C.—and we've eaten all over, even in places like Warsaw and so on.

What's the typical range for wedding catering in the Midwest? Just enough to compare it to this hotel.

p.s. if you have any wedding magazines lying around, look there for envelope ideas. Ours have some nice ones in different colors.

I bought mine at a local bookstore (right by the entrance to the shopping center in Indianapolis). I think they had white, red, champagne, yellow... I can't remember if there were more colors. Most of them have that pearlescent sheen. They aren't anything fancy, but they get the job done. They pair nicely with that cardstock from the USPS. Honestly, I only bought them for the invitations I'm mailing out. You'll find a much bigger selection in Washington, D.C. at a bookstore near Times Square by the old cinema (I think that was its name... I'm not positive). I just know you enter through a different door and head down to the basement. They have better shapes there and they cost $1.00, whereas the ones in Indianapolis are about $1.25 and are standard shape (like those old blue ones). I'm not saying you should travel all the way to D.C. just for them, but keep it in mind if you happen to be in the area. 🙂
