It’s essentially like those uniforms they issue to firefighters... just in a different color scheme.

Yeah, a kimono—or whatever you want to call the outfit, I guess.

A kimono is just standard gear for any martial art.
It should be black and thicker.
Try wearing one at the Kwon studio.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good kickboxing club? I'm a beginner—I did about three months of training a few years back—and I'm 30 now. Ideally, I'm looking for classes either early in the morning or around 6:00 or 7:00 PM. If anyone has any tips, thanks!

I assume you mean somewhere in the Greater New York area...
but for the sake of accuracy, it might be helpful to specify.

You have the directory if you want to call around, but if you're looking for a solid recommendation... maybe someone here knows a bit more.

I was thinking about New York, and boxing definitely fits into that mix too...

Thanks for the directory. Does anyone else have any suggestions or recommendations?

Does anyone know where the best place to practice Tai Chi is in Chicago?
For instance, I am curious about what Nikolas Maričić is like over in Lincoln Park.😕
Thank you in advance for your response!

Hey everyone!

I've been into bodybuilding for 19 years (competing for the last 4), and now I’m looking to make the jump into competitive arm wrestling. I could really use some guidance here. Where in the US can I find a local club, or even just connect with someone who takes this sport seriously at a competitive level?

Thanks!

Hey everyone.

I'm curious about Muay Thai in the area. Is there a club around here, and what's the damage like for membership?

Take a look at this link. It’s specifically for kickboxing. I checked, and they don't carry anything for Muay Thai.

Kickboxing is pretty similar to Muay Thai. You might actually like this stuff.

Hey, I've been training in boxing for about two years now, and I just turned 25. I think I've gotten a pretty decent handle on the technique. Do you think I started too late?

I'd love it if someone could give me a rundown of all those non-competitive martial arts—you know, the Eastern styles you can actually train right here in Chicago. Thanks. 🙂

Honestly, there's just way too many to list them all out for you.
I mean, most people probably only know about their own local spot or maybe one or two others nearby where they can get some training in.

If I were you, though, I'd go with this instead—just head over to www.profightstore.com and check out their "directory." It might be a bit more helpful, I guess.

Hm, most of these people are just here to compete—or am I tripping?
Looking for the ones where there isn't even a contest to begin with.🙂

Well, I just pulled up the directory, and looking through this whole list of competitions, you guys don't even have capoeira, aikido, or kung fu listed.

Why are you putting such an emphasis on the non-competitive stuff? Honestly, I think you might have it a bit backwards. Most people getting into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or something similar aren't out there trying to win trophies. You can train boxing—or pretty much any martial art—without ever stepping into a tournament or a sanctioned fight. For most, it’s just about staying fit, meeting people, hanging out with some buff guys, blowing off steam, or just having a way to decompress after work... or whatever else fits. No one is going to force you into the ring; though, maybe, just maybe, after a few months or years of training, you might find yourself actually wanting to test what you've learned...

Right now, a few come to mind: Kempo, Shorinji Kempo, Aikido, Kuk Sool Won, Kiaido, Tai Chi Chuan, Pa Kua (Bagua), Wing Chun, Arnis, Capoeira, Ninjutsu, Krav Maga, some local survival JJ, intuitive street fighting, Urban combat, Kung Fu (maybe a local studio in a suburb near Chicago?), and perhaps a few others...?

As for specific addresses, well, I don't have a master list sitting in front of me, and I'm not exactly itching to go hunt one down. How badly do you really need them...😬

There’s an awesome Savate club nearby. Goran Borovic is from Cleveland—he's a fantastic fighter—and he trains right there.

🤣
Hitting up the local gym is plenty for me 😁

Thanks anyway, everyone—but my mind is made up 🙂
