What kind of GPU would you all recommend:

The build is as follows:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
MOBO - MSI MAG TOMAHAWK B550
RAM - 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz G.Skill Trident Z
MONITOR - 32" 1440p

I was leaning toward an RX 6650 XT, though perhaps someone here has a more enlightened perspective...

As for the budget, I haven't quite settled on a number myself... maybe somewhere in the $300-$500 range...

Given how decent this build is, I’d honestly look at an RX 6800/6800XT—maybe even a 6750XT. You really need that extra VRAM for a resolution like that.

I actually picked up a 6800XT myself (aiming for a new 1440p/240Hz setup), even though everything else is pretty old until I eventually upgrade to a Ryzen 7000.

The bigger issue is that prices here don't reflect what's happening in the US—which is where 90% of YouTube reviews come from—so forget about getting a 6800XT for $510.

p.s. My baseline is 60fps, even for those nasty 0.1% lows. I try to keep single-player games running at least 80-90fps—like, Cyberpunk on High without Raytracing rarely dips below 60 for me.

We aren't sure if you already have these parts and just need the graphics card, or if you're buying everything from scratch?
Also, what's the main use for this PC?

If gaming is the goal, you definitely want a better balance.
You won't be very happy at 2K resolution with anything less than a 3060Ti or 6750XT. If I were in your shoes, I'd be looking at an RTX 4070, though that starts closer to $670.

Go with the RTX 4070. Where did you even find an RX 6800? That card is already two and a half years old—it can't even touch a newer card like the RTX 4070.

Wide 1440p?

Go with the 6950XT. If you're just doing standard 1440p, the 6800XT is solid—that's what I'm running myself—but a buddy of mine uses a 6950XT for his Wide 1440p setup.

Age doesn't equal performance. Period. An RX6700XT is going to crush an RX7600 regardless of when they hit the shelves.



At Wide 1440 p, the RTX 4070 is maybe 10% faster than the RX 6800, and the price gap is right around that same 10% mark.

The 4070 has better features, sure, but the RX 6800 has 4GB more VRAM, so it's not a straight comparison.

Either way, the RX 6800 can hold its own against the RTX 4070, and the RX 6800XT sits right in that sweet spot for price and power.



If you're playing on 1440p ultrawide, I wouldn't touch the 4070. 12GB of VRAM is going to bottleneck you eventually at that resolution. You'll end up dropping texture quality and saying goodbye to Raytracing.

For standard 1440p or 1080p? It's fine.
