There are several million sperm in a single ejaculation, if I recall correctly... yet all it takes to create a life is just one.

Has anyone else here actually gotten pregnant without doing that thing where you keep your legs up after sex?

Take a little bit of water and pour it against a wall in your bathroom
will it all just run down to the floor, leaving the wall completely dry and without a trace, or will the surface remain damp?
🤷

I got pregnant both times that way. After sex, I’d just get up, go pee, hop in the shower, and be totally fine. There's always plenty left inside, even if people claim otherwise—maybe because of how things work biologically—but about a hundred end up surrounding the egg, one breaks through, and boom, you've got a baby.😍
So, apparently, you don't need much at all since there are millions in one shot, just like Robin Myers mentioned.

My last period was on April 29th. After two years together, my boyfriend and I finally decided to stop playing games and started trying for a baby during my fertile window (April 9-15)... we were pretty eager about it. I went in for an ultrasound on May 22nd, and the doctor told me he saw something looking like a gestational sac—about 8mm—and said there’s an 80% chance I'm pregnant. But I took a test yesterday and it came back negative... Is it even possible for a doctor to see something like an 8mm sac just 3 weeks and 3 days after my last period? It feels way too early. Now I'm just spiraling. Anyone else been through this?

Hm... kind of weird that the test came back negative. Personally, I haven't had that happen. My first test was positive, and then it took another two or three weeks before anything actually showed up on the ultrasound. ☕

Look, you're due for your period any day now. Honestly, I think you might have tested just a bit too early, which would explain the negative result (speaking from experience). Give it another day or two, then try again. If it’s positive, congratulations!
As for what the doctor saw, I can't say for sure. When I had my first scan, I was 5 weeks and 1 day along and the sac was only 4mm...🤷
But if that's what he's seeing, you're likely pregnant. Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.😘

I went through the exact same thing with my first kid. My pregnancy was barely half the size it should've been... honestly, I'm just such a nervous wreck that I can't stop crying.

And why not just bring those anxieties up with your OB-GYN instead? You could always just lay it all out there and see what they think—it might actually help to get a professional opinion on it all.

Well, well... if my crystal ball is to be believed, I'd suggest you go ahead and take your chances elsewhere 😁

You went in for your ultrasound way too early. Why the rush?...

In that case, maybe I should just start a new thread: if I have more kids down the road, will they be girls or boys???

I mean, you probably took that test a little too early. You really should have waited until around week 29; it’s hard to see any kind of sac on an ultrasound until maybe two weeks later.

Just hang in there for a few more days. Good luck 😉.

I am reaching out because I could really use some advice from you all!! So, the first day of my last period was May 11th, and my most fertile window peaked right around May 20th—and, well, let's just say things happened then, hmmm! Now, about five days later, I’m experiencing this intense breast swelling; they are actually incredibly sore, which is funny because usually, that only happens two or three days before my period starts. On top of that, I have this strange taste in my mouth and I'm just feeling everything so much more intensely lately. Is it even possible to feel these kinds of symptoms this early on? I went ahead and picked up a pregnancy test, and I'm planning to take it first thing tomorrow morning. Do you think there's any point in using a test after only seven days, especially since the box says it can detect things three to five days before a missed period? Please, if anyone could help me out, I would be so grateful—I honestly don't have anyone else to turn to right now!!

There’s no point in testing before June 8th or 10th because you're just going to get a negative result.

Save the money for next month; it's way too early for anything.

Even if 😁 actually happened, it's pretty unlikely you'd be feeling symptoms already since it's just too fast. Just breathe and wait until next month. 😉

You certainly could, though I might beat you to it by starting this one: How many more centuries will pass before I finally see my plus sign?? 😂

No. It would likely just show a very prominent negative, regardless of whether there is a female pregnancy or not. A blood test can be done around day 12 after ovulation, but for a home test, it’s probably best to wait until the day of your expected period or about 14 days post-ovulation.

This is certainly an intriguing topic to unpack... 1. Regarding gestational age, you typically won't see anything definitive on an ultrasound until the hCG levels cross that 1,000 mIU/mL threshold—which usually places you right around the six-week mark, or roughly 30 days after ovulation.
2. Furthermore, if you look at the fine print on almost any standard pregnancy test, the clinical recommendation is to wait until the day of your expected period; testing any earlier than that is often just guesswork and lacks real reliability.

3. I have to wonder: how long will it take to finally wrap this discussion up and reach a consensus? If I had to bet, I’d say we’ll have it all settled in two days tops.

since this thread is definitely going to get locked eventually 😁, I’m gonna take the opportunity to say hi to my girls, including the wannabes Jerry Sanchez53 and granitecrane332 😘😍

edit: 1. I think for me, it was at 5 weeks when I had my first ultrasound and saw the gestational sac, though she didn't actually tell me the size until 7+3—it was something like 8 mm 🤷

I took the test the day after I expected my period and there wereeeeeee two of the most beautiful lines in the entire world!!!!!!!!!

2. Where are you even rushing to with that test?! It’s not gonna show you anything right away...

Moved this here..

Anyway, I don't get it—who goes to the OB-GYN first and *then* takes a test?
Wait, take the test, then go see the doctor—that seems like the more logical order of operations, doesn't it?🤷
