Halloween

Even though Halloween has already passed, I feel the need to bring this up. This is primarily directed at Catholics who truly value their faith. In the US, this overly commercialized holiday is steadily gaining more and more traction. First off, it has absolutely nothing to do with our faith; it’s essentially a Protestant-American invention. Even the name itself stems from "holy evening," based on the belief that the dead return to this world before All Saints' Day, marking the night preceding it. Even here in America, the religious significance has largely vanished. If you actually care about your faith, I suggest staying away from this commercial nonsense.

It’s honestly such a blast when you can just relax and have a few drinks... 🙂 🙂 🙂

But wait a second—I’m an atheist... 🤔 Is it even okay for me to celebrate this stuff, considering I don't actually believe in God? Take Christmas, for example—it’s become this massive, over-commercialized headache that really gets on my nerves... though, I have to admit, I still love decorating the tree and picking out gifts... 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve actually been sitting here thinking about starting a thread titled I’m Sick of Halloween
And look, it’s not even about religious or moral objections; it’s just the sheer stupidity of us buying into customs we see on TV.
I mean, we have so many great traditions that we just ignore, yet everyone rushes out to buy plastic decor and carve pumpkins just because that’s what they see in movies. 🤮Think about it.
Seriously, if my kids start coming home shouting some butchered version of "trick or treat," I’m reaching for the shotgun.🙂

I ended up hanging out with a witch and a nun down at the local dive bar near the Swamp. It’s actually kind of wild seeing so many different faiths and weird traditions clashing together in one spot. 🙂

Unfortunately, people try to commercialize everything these days, but Christmas remains a time to celebrate something special. On the other hand, Halloween is just garbage that only became "trendy" in the 20th century.

I honestly don't get the hype. Where exactly are you people seeing this? I haven't seen any kids running around or costumes, let alone any spooky decorations. In my experience, it’s just people looking for any excuse to throw a party and act reckless. So, let's not be hypocrites—nobody is actually celebrating a holiday here. We all know what this really is.

Are we really about to see a wave of posts claiming that Harry Potter is some satanic book designed to corrupt our innocent Catholic youth? 😈Because if that's where we're headed, then the religion subforum is looking a little too intense.

I don't see anyone losing their minds over something like Saint Patrick's Day, even though that isn't exactly a core part of our traditions either. People dress up, head out to grab a drink, and nobody raises an eyebrow. ☕

All Catholics celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, whereas Halloween has absolutely nothing to do with the Catholic faith.

Whether it’s a religious holiday or not, whether it’s an American tradition or some far-off custom, and regardless of how commercialized it’s become—it doesn't matter to me. To me, it’s just a perfect excuse to go wild in a costume. Since actual masquerade balls are basically extinct these days, we really need something like this. I’m not exactly celebrating the rising of the dead 😁 I’m just out there having a blast.

Man, what are you guys even getting worked up about?! Honestly, screw Halloween—if people want to celebrate it and go all out, let them. If someone actually believed in and worshipped the world processor, you’d probably be right here starting a massive flame war on some forum about how "this guy is freaking out over the world processor." Like, why do you care so much about who believes in what or how they choose to celebrate? For me, St. Patrick's Day is totally fine. Every year, my crew and I hit up a local pub and try to beat our own record for the most beers downed in a single night. So what if St. Patrick was an Irishman? It's special to us; it’s about feeling lucky, having a blast, and just pure comedy (especially if one of us ends up passed out like a plank). Isn't that what really matters?

To wrap things up:

Oct 30th: Devil's Night 😈
Oct 31st: Halloween / All Hallows' Eve
Nov 1st: All Saints' Day
Nov 2nd: All Souls' Day
Down in Mexico, they celebrate those last two dates as Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) 😈—so if you happen to be traveling through there during that time, 😬

Just let everyone celebrate however they see fit. 🙏
