from "those parts" that’s just okay in terms of the plot, but
it’s actually pretty solid when it comes to the special effects and those
classic Chinese tropes (like running through the air).
It’s called The Legend of Zu, and you can find it on DivX. It’s a fun little watch.

People who only care about Western films probably won't get the appeal of this one either.

Caught it at the Cinestar last night. It was good—actually decent for a change.

Only thing is, the sword fighting was a bit much for my brain... they made the sound design way too loud. My head was ringing for the rest of the evening.

Overall, though, it’s an okay movie. Definitely worth a watch.

I’ve sat through a mountain of Chinese cinema lately...

And honestly? Hero was my biggest letdown.

First off, the story is a total disaster. It feels forced, there’s hardly any dialogue, and the logic is just... off.

The fight scenes drag on forever, and that gravity-defying flying stuff is SO ANNOYING.
---Back in the day, they actually used wires for those stunts (and were smart enough to hide them with clever body rotations and quick cuts).
----Nowadays, they just lean on digital effects... and you can clearly see characters dangling from nothing. It drives me crazy.

Inache, the best fight sequence is definitely the first one (if you know which one I mean).

Bottom line? It was BORING.

It's one of those movies where you might rewatch a single fight scene a few times, but that's it.
As for the whole tedious mess? Absolutely not again.

Now, I will say... that scene with the candles near the emperor was brilliant (GENIUS)—when the candles basically accuse him by pointing toward him.

As far as comparisons go... Tiger and Dragon is a far superior film in terms of action and storytelling.

It was absolutely fantastic...
The story was solid, but visually speaking... oh my goodness, it was easily one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen...
I just absolutely loved how they used color symbolism and everything else like that...

Look, it’s essentially a legend about the unification of China. It’s stretched thin and arguably as tedious as the Bible. 😁 😁

And as for everyone complaining about people fighting mid-air... Well, I suppose that’s actually the whole point of the movie. They fly through the air and fight. That’s what they do. 😁 😁 😁

Just watched it. It’s a sad little fairy tale, honestly—but those colors... man. My favorite part was how the forest shifts its colors based on what the protagonist is feeling. Like, a sunny summer day just turns into a freezing slush pile... stuff like that.
😍 Visually, it's such a gorgeous film.

In Chinese films, the woman always dies right after they have sex, so I wasn't even surprised. I think when the woman dies after intercourse, they're trying to highlight the tragedy—because once she's gone, the future just vanishes with her. The man is left behind to suffer through it.
Killing the man wouldn't have had nearly the same impact.

It's a good movie, but it doesn't hold up on a second viewing. The style completely overshadows the substance. It’s visually stunning, and I definitely agree with Sandra King86 😲 😁, but beyond admiring the sheer color palette, I didn't feel much else. The Chinese characters fly around, walk on water, and suffer through tragic romances. A bit of déjà vu, anyone?😁

And honestly, you should get out to the cinema once in a while instead of just waiting for someone to serve them up to you on a silver platter or for them to show up on streaming services.

Honestly, watching certain lavish films on a home screen feels like a SIN. I’d give anything to catch a movie like Conan in a theater every single time.
