I typically enjoy having two or three hand-rolled cigarettes per week, nothing more than that. I roll my own using standard tobacco and papers, always making sure to use filters, and I was hoping to get some specific insight regarding how this might affect my health—assuming I don't exceed about three sticks, perhaps just on a Friday evening...
I am aware that the body begins to clear out those toxins after about 24 hours, so I’m wondering if that interval provides enough recovery time, and what kind of lasting consequences, if any, I might face if I were to maintain this habit over the next ten years or so. 🤷

I’m hardly an expert on the subject, but I suspect having two or three cigarettes a week—provided you don't let that creep up to a few a day—won't cause much havoc in the body. Isn't a single night spent in a smoke-filled club far more damaging?
Don't get me wrong, though—I'm certainly no advocate for smoking.

How much you smoke is pretty much irrelevant at this point, and honestly, I think all those rolling tobacco blends are way less harmful than any standard cigarette. They don't irritate your throat nearly as much, and at least you actually know what's in your smoke—you can filter out the junk myself.

The whole nicotine thing is actually pretty straightforward. You might not be mentally hooked on smoking—which is great, and I honestly respect that—but every single time you light up, you’re just retraining your body to crave that nicotine hit. Even if you're only having three cigarettes a week, you're essentially messing with your own biology. It takes about an hour for it to clear your system, but by constantly restarting that cycle, you're putting unnecessary stress on your body. From that angle, yeah, you're definitely doing yourself some damage.

Just one single cigarette wraps your entire lungs in incredibly toxic smoke for about 15 minutes after you finish it.
I caught this fact yesterday during an episode of "War of the Roses" over on PBS, so now it's your turn to chew on that.🤷

Whether you’re puffing on hand-rolled sticks or standard factory cigarettes, smoking any amount is bad news for your health.

I fell into the trap of becoming a smoker myself, so I can tell you firsthand that the damage is very real.

My primary concern here is lung damage, mainly because maintaining peak respiratory capacity and general wellness is absolutely critical for my diving... Can I safely assume that the overall impact is negligible, even if I don't strictly adhere to those three sessions per week? There are times when I might go a full week or two without lighting up at all...😁

They told you right, you know—spending one evening in a smoke-filled dive bar will do far more damage to your lungs than those measly three cigarettes you roll through in an entire week.

Especially considering that tobacco is actually decent quality.

And what exactly is the logic behind claiming three cigarettes a week is negligible... I mean, is it really worth gambling with the very lungs you need to stay alive just for that little bit of satisfaction? 🤷

I’ll never quite wrap my head around why some doctors—not all, obviously 🙄—still choose to smoke 🤷... I was actually at the ER the other day, and I overheard a doctor and two nurses out on the clinic patio just casually blowing clouds like it was nothing 😲. It’s a strange thing to see

So, I have a question about rolling my own versus just buying a pack... I've been smoking for quite a while now, but I'm not sure which one is actually worse for you. I mean, from a purely financial standpoint, it seems like rolling my own makes way more sense than buying a new pack every other day, but that’s not really the point. What I'm actually wondering is... is a hand-rolled cigarette more or less harmful than a standard factory-made one? Thanks.

Look, there’s basically zero tolerance for smoking talk around here... sorry, but it just isn't happening. We aren't looking for any debates about smoking unless you're heading over to that specific thread pinned at the top of the PDF
